Overhead Drum Mic Stands - Recommendations?

Hi guys,

Looking for recommendations for a pair of overhead drum mic stands which are relatively inexpensive. Maybe $125 each, or roughly $250 for the pair?

There are four I’m looking at currently:

1) https://www.guitarcenter.com/On-Stag...0boom&index=16
2) https://www.sweetwater.com/store/det...racking%20Link
3) https://www.guitarcenter.com/KM/Prof...0boom&index=13
4) https://www.guitarcenter.com/TAMA/Ir...0works&index=1

Are these tall enough for drum overheads?
Any other suggestions in my price range?

Thanks!

All 3 links are dead for me:o From sweetwater....
I like this on a tight budget:
On-Stage Stands SMS7630B Hex Base Studio Boom Microphone Stand

I like this one if you got the room(the boom does split in the middle)
On-Stage Stands SMS7650 Hex Base Studio Boom Microphone Stand

Triad-Orbit have really great stuff but it is quite expensive(their tripod weighs a ton while looking like everyone else's)

Latchlake are the best of the best(with a price to match)

K&M did make a tripod with solid legs(instead of tube) that weighed a lot(add the boom of your choice), but I couldn't find it. My drum room used the premium K&M booms and I was quite happy, but nothing else went into that room). Maybe your dealer know which is the extra-heavy version(I think it was made for singing drummers)

Hey thanks for the suggestions, will look into these!
Sorry about the broken links, I just fixed them, if you have a minute to see how any of those fare with your suggestions, please feel free!

Re: Overhead Drum Mic Stands - Recommendations?

Just my opinions
1) I don't like the base on this one. Just a personal pref for 3 contact points, which will never wobble) and I like the weight of the big triangular iron base on the ones I listed.
2) tough to go wrong with anything from K&M, but see comment on 3).
3) as with 2, also good, but both could benefit from extra weight at the bottom. On-Stage Stands CW-3 or CW-6 do a great job. Clamp on on the leg opposite the mic direction for better counter-balance. I had the CW-6 on 2 of my K&M stands and they never tipped:o
4) I've not see that one. It looks fine, but I would pick from the others unless they tell you this on is considerably heavier(no weight given on the ad).

Last 2 cents from someone with 30+ years in the business; buy the best you can afford. The reason; every time you go cheap, you end up buying the same product 2-3 more times because the cheaper stuff just doesn't last or constantly annoys you with sub-par performance. The last straw for me was a big sale at GC where I bought 3 boom stands for a bargain price(their Pro-Line....yeah.....right.....). By the second gig, all 3 went in the trash and were replaced with K&M:o

I have have a few Latchlake and Triad Orbit stands- they are both brilliant brands.

If on a budget check out K&M.
They are good value for money and pretty strong.
When micing up the expensive stuff though I go with Latchlake or TO.

Hi, try looking at some old boom cymbal stands. Some of the old ones are 'heavy' so heavy that a lot of guys don't want them anymore. When you take off the wing nut etc. the end of the boom can be adapted for a mic holder ( more on that tmw) But believe me they'll never fall over, your mic is safe. Cheers
