This MTRX II seems to be the AX64 equivalent with digilink. Though, where the AX64 comes with 2 thunderbolt ports installed, at the Thomann site I read it's optionally. Also, if the backside practically is an AX64 with digilink, that will also mean it has the 16 channels of AES replaced with 16 channels of ADAT (who uses adat in 2023...argh) . Which means, for those who really want a DigiLink + Thunderbolt MTRX unit and run their speakers through AES (widely used) , need to also install an AES I/O card. My guess would also be, hence the optional Thunderbolt for the MTRX II , that this will also apply as an upgrade option for the current MTRX Studio which has that 'mystery slot' on the back of the unit with 2 Thunderbolt 3 holes drilled in the chassis. |
Re: Avid MTRX 2 ?
This release was widely expected after the AX64 was released..
The v2 has the SPQ functionality of the MTRX Studio as well - the MTRX v1 had no SPQ unless you add the $2700 SPQ card (which admittedly has more filters).. I'm guessing it also doesn't require the Dante internal daughter card like the v1 either and has Dante built-in. the AX64 can use the same cards as the AX32 so I'm sure this can support the same cards from the v1 MTRX. No screen on the panel at all this time. Too bad there's still no replacement for HDX - needs more channels per port, better dsp architecture, no fan, etc. But I guess that's all in the past and Avid is probably just assuming native for the future. |
