M1 and video
Is anyone using a Mac Mini M1 with external video hardware succesfully?
A have a Blackmagic UltraStudio Monitor, but the video engine stops when I hit ‘play’. Internally on the computer screen video plays well. Thanks from sunny Amsterdam |

At this time, the M1 is not compatible with external GPU’s.

Ahh. Yes. I misunderstood your question. However, if you’re trying to use the current version of Pro Tools 2021.3.1 or anything prior, It is not authorized for use on an M1 processor. While you might get lucky with some video playback, it’s going to be hit or miss regardless of any external video adapter. If you can playback video fine through any other software authorized for M1 besides Pro Tools then incompatibility it’s most likely your issue. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: M1 and video
Thanks for the responds. I am using Blackmagics latest firmware.
Adobe Premiere works fine with it. It seems that I am the first M1 user working with Protools and video. I shall be patient. |
Re: M1 and video
Did you get this up and running yet?
I need to buy a new Mini and would prefer to buy the M1 vs the 2018 model. |
Re: M1 and video
Avid says the Video Engine is still not compatible with M1.
And HDX / HD Native aren't compatible. Their definitions of incompatible, not supported, and supported aren't always reliable though. I have no first hand experience here but I put off buying one because of that. |

As for HDX/HD Native -- there are no drivers so it will not run. This is what it means by "not compatible" |

Still waiting to get a PT version that works…
