is this a TIGER vrs 9.2 problem?

Im Running tiger 10.4.2 and have installed Pro tools le 6.9. I have not upgraded to 6.9.2. I tried to run pro tools and open up a new session with 6.9 and the sign said "Session must be on an audio record volume". If I grabbed from my external hard drive sessions it would say " Audio files are on volumes unsuitable for playback" Why?

6.x introduce Workspace.
From Windows Menu choose Show workspace and change the status of the drives you wish to record on from P or T to R.

The Legend is:
P - Playback
T - Transferable (WON'T OPREATE AS PLAYBACK/RECORDING MEDIA!)
R - Record.

Tiger only works with 6.9.2, why haven't you upgraded to it?

I have this problem periodically. I am running 10.3.9, and every once in a while open a session and get the error described above. Obviously it is easily fixed, but why is this setting on my hard drive getting changed by itself?

I have the same problem with 10.3. & LE6.9, it randomly changes the setting back to p on my audio drive from time to time.

Re: is this a TIGER vrs 9.2 problem?

I believe that I discovered in one of the earlier PT 6 versions that with a removable drive, if the drive was not already powered up and mounted when PT was launched, the drive's settings would revert to "playback" but that if the drive was mounted before PT was launched it would retain the settings. Don't know if this is still the case, but I always have my drive mounted first and haven't had this issue.

However, as an above poster said, in response to the original question, the issue is that you HAVE to upgrade to 6.9.2 if you are on Tiger.
