Cubase and Mixer visuals and hiding tracks.

So the Artist series tends to change my Cubase mixer layouts when I bank around tracks. It switches my channels (visually) to a "panner" overview, whereas I usually keep them in Insert view. Any ideas how to stop that?

Also, I like to hide my MIDI channels. So they're hidden in Cubase's Mixer, but they still show up on the MC Mix and MC Control. Any way to bypass those (besides doing it manually)?

Thanks, new user and really loving these things.

You could make bank layouts; but you would need a Transport or a Control to recall them.

Thanks, can you explain a little more? Bank Layouts, via what? Is that a Eucon thing you're talking about? I have all the devices, Transport, Mixer and Control

1) In EuControl --> Assign
There you can assign any track of your project to a fader.

2) Then you go to Layout and save it (you must also save your project after changes).

repeat, make all necessary Layout.

3) Then also in EuControl add to a softkey or to the transport Keypad a command --> MC --> Recall Layout. I use the Keypad, this way with the keypad numbers 1-9 I can recall plenty of faders layouts and do not need to use the bank buttons.

You can even program them on the touchscreen.

Great, thanks. Haven't wrapped my brain around the possibilities yet!

Yeah I know.

I first got at the end of this summer a Mix and a Transport and then another Mix and a Control.
I have my Bus banking on the Control and the mix cover 16 tracks.

First 16 tracks are dedicated to winds and percussion, the other 16 to Strings.
I can access all of this just pressing the number 1 or 2 on the Transport's keypad.

If I press 3 and 4 I have 32 other tracks for electronics, synths or live recording.

I've setup a layout on 0 with all blanks, so that I don't have to see my faders going up and down and make noise when I press play. I'm just starting to really enjoy it!

Re: Cubase and Mixer visuals and hiding tracks.

in the Eucon prefs, uncheck Workstation Tracks Knob Set Changes.

This will prevent the cubase mixer for autoupdating.

What is happening is, you may have panner as your view, but on your hardware you probably have Inserts as your view (for example).. so when you select a new track, cubase is responding and thinks that inserts is what you want to view and updating itself. It's actually really smart, but difficult to get used to when you're a new user.

Another option..

Leave the box checked, and change your F3 mixer keycommand so that it actually opens up mixer#2 instead of #1. The auto updating only happens on the main mixer window and inspector on the edit window.

Xill

Do you you have to create these layouts for every project? I have not attempted this in Nuendo yet but in protools, layouts saved with a template are not available anymore when I create a new session using it.

What is your experience?

In regards to "It switches my channels (visually) to a "panner" overview", hah I didn't even know what those buttons on the left of the MC Mixer did. That's great, they switch my mixer view to whatever I want, so it's even better than I was hoping for.
