Swapping Tracks with Forum Members??

Is there anywhere where forum members get together to form virtual bands or to swap tracks and stuff? I thought it would be cool to be able to send a partially completed PT session to another member so they can add to it. For example, I send a guitar track to a drummer who adds the drums and then we send it to a bass player who adds the bass, then off to the vocalist.

I have met a few random people over the years of messing around on audio forums, who love to do exactly this. I usually send over a PT session, or stereo mixdown, and then have someone overdub guitar or midi piano or percussion, and then send it back to me. Then I can mess around with it and such. I have even exchanged ideas with musicians, and then taken those ideas and formed songs out of them. Its a lot of fun, but tricky to make work. I don't know of a place on this forum, that's setup for this purpose. That would be great.

I remember about a year ago, I found this site that had some kind of built in multitrack recorded. You could make a session with it, and then post it to the site. Then anyone and everyone can add what they want. I can't remember the site name, but people were doing exactly what you are talking about. Someone messes around with some drums and posts them. Then someone adds guitar. Someone else adds bass, and then a vocalist. From there people seemed to start adding ramdom stuff, or doing remixes. Pretty cool. Not very professional. But very fun! I will see if I can dig that site up.

Did you have specific things you wanted worked on? Depending on the material you have, I might be willing to do some colabos. I'm on the West Coast and I work with people in Europe all the time, so its definatly dooable.

Thanks for the reply Nick. I'm surprised this isn't more popular. I got the idea by seeing some YouTube videos where people filmed their individual parts of the song from various places around the world and then they put it together into a single video and posted it to the site. It would be great if you can locate the site you referenced.

I'm in the South Bay, just down the road from you. The first thing I was thinking of sending out is 'The Rover' which is just a cover of the Led Zep tune. I had an old track lying around that I recorded with the drummer in a band I was in. So I cleaned it up and wanted to have someone add vocals (out of my range!) and bass as a keepsake. But it would also be cool to collaborate with other musicians on original material. My style is along the lines of the classic rock guitarists but with influences of alternative and Brit Pop as well as classic folk music.

One website that specializes in this is Kompoz. While not Pro Tools specific, many users exchange WAV or MP3 or MIDI tracks, that can be easily converted. I"ve done a few here myself just for kicks.

That Kompose site is definatly not the same one I was talking about. It still looks pretty cool though. And works great for what we are talking about. On the one I saw, you could actualy record audio on their site. The web site was like multi track software. Pretty cool. I haven't had any luck finding it. I will keep trying though.

Rockdog... I love the song The Rover. Great Zep tune. I also have the same problem as you. Robert Plant is way outside my vocal range. Porbably the case for most people. I'm definatly down to work on some origional music. I'm more of an acoustic singer songwriter then a rock guitarist. But I would be hard pressed to say that I don't incorperate rock styles into almost all of my music. I mostly play acoustic and electric guitar and hammond organ. I can wing it on drums, bass and a few others. But mostly I'm a guitar/organ man. Let me know if you ever need anything down these lines.

I love to work with other musicians.
