Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Sorry I havn't been able to listen to all the tunes posted lately, but here is some feedback on a few.
The Int. Badass Band, "Paint the Desert Wind": Another smash hit, but this one definately, DEFINATELY needs an oud in there. Sorry guys, that's just the way it is. Any song about the desert just HAS to have an oud. That's in the Digi regulations for sure. I think... Steevp: Love that "What is wrong with this Picture". As someone said, very XTCish and Beatlesque. Love those harmonies, love that ending. Great work! Kris: ****urbritches isn't really my thang, but I enjoyed it. I'll have to listen to more of your stuff to get a better idea of who you are. Nice to see you Mac guys over here on a friendly visit! Darren: I ain't no Christian, but I love choir music. Nice job. Sounded great. Almost makes me want to go to church... I know you guys are just DYING to hear my next song, but I can't decide which one to inflict upon the outside world, so, sorry, you'll just have to wait... |

Thanks david. I was trying for the patriotic theme there.....but it was for church
It's my first live in the field recording with a 001 and not one crash over four nights! And Roy, thank you too (eventhough you deleted the evidence ) |

Rogerio, I really like your stuff... great sounds on everything. We definitely need to get together on something soon. There's a wide spectrum of possibilities now within this thread, especially recently. I myself need to finish a few things I'm already doing (and go on vacation) but in a few weeks...absolutely. We'll plan on it, if that's cool with you... ~Roy |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Archtop and Roy, thanks for the listens. I appreciate it much! I understand that sometimes dealing with Mp3.com can sometimes be annoying, so for your time, I do appreciate it much!

Re: Mac Mixes!!!!!!!!
Heya Lamp, thanks for the review.
Manhattan Skyline definitely still lives in the set, and is always a crowd favorite. I haven't played the other song with her though, mostly we do stuff from her most recent album. She's on vacation for the summer though, then starting yet another new album in the fall, hopefully I'll get the call to do some sessions for that too |

It was good to meet face to face someone from this online community, and I want to report that he is a fine, upstanding chap. How do I know, you ask? He brought cookies when he came! |

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Hey Darren,
Yes, the day after I posted that, I was gonna add something to it, the phone rang and I just zapped it all. Basically I just said you did a very good job on the song. Steve, Yes, the 'oud' was a mystery to me at first too. But I hear that Nippamuk is known as 'the Stevie Ray Vaughn of the oud' is some parts(they say he can even play it behind his back). Word is, the 'oud' will be right up there with the Strats and Les Pauls pretty soon. It's just a matter of time... |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
seven,
great sound! I think I may have to pick up a pair of those octavas, everything I've heard on the DUC with them has been great. So was the singer using a 58 into the board or somethng? It didn't really sound like a dynamic. also, roger, nice work! that's reason, no? thanks. bp |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
badperson, yep I was one of the first to venture into russian ground with those mics. He was using a handheld wireless mic that he brought. Probably a Shure. Glad you enjoyed.
|
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
thanks darren,
so after listening to it again, and looking at the m012 on musiciansfriend (seriously thinking of getting a pair) how did you do the placement, in and x-y in front of the choir? also, was that a keyboard going direct into the board? and what was used to mic the piano? bp |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Quote:
Well, i don't have reason yet, but i used sampletank for drums and some of the pianos, and some PRO-52. |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Badperson, those mics are indeed versatile. The piano on that song was recorded in another studio as a backtrack and I don't know what they used. But the live piano was mic'd with another m012. The strings were played live with a keyboard into the board. Since sound reinforcment was my main concern, I chose to place them about 5' in front of the choir about 10' apart.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Yo, TooLoud, yes I returned home with a bad case of studio envy after seeing your place. (Thanks for the kind words, by the way, but have you noticed your missing hubcaps yet?)
Wouldn't it be great to just drop in on everyone's studio from time to time? Oh, and thanks for the oud link. But notice- nowhere have I said that I play the oud, only that one is needed, 'specially in the IBB's song Paint the Desert Wind. I have one; its from Morocco. Any other oud players out there? |

Would love to hear your stuff, but your webpage doesn't work with Safari? Not a good thing for a Mac person... cbarrett |
Re: Mac Mixes!!!!!!!!
it does work, you just can't have 'block pop-up windows' turned on. I'm looking for better javascript to avoid that, and actually working on a whole new site design at the moment, but if you command-K then click the 'enter here' link, the right window will pop up. Safari's the only browser that sees this particular code as 'pop-up' code, but as I said, I'm looking to swap it out with something that doesn't give me that problem.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Alright all,
Here is another installment from the Demo project I have been working on with a client. 4 songs down, 2 to go... This is not my type of tune, but I think that is sounds good, and the guitars sound great in my opinion. This one has a female vocalist on the chorus, and I went in and added a Sampletank Violin to see how it sounded. Kinda cool, and fits the song. There was going to be a harmonica in it, but they decided to stay away from that. I will bring the solo guitar down a bit more at the end, but other than that I think it is done... Let me know what ya think. It is a slower song, but kinda nice... http://members.cox.net/andrewsintel/CarolinaGirl.mp3 Later, Doc |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
I've recently finished up three projects. You can hear some of the results here...
The Dimes - AAA Rock "Oxygen" Scott MacGill - AAA Rock "Small Comfort" Glenda Langevin - Dance Pop "Please Me" Let me know what you think! |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Ok
I just checked out a few tunes. Carolina girl, In God We Trust, and Please Me. Carolina Girl is a very nice tune. Its actually really pretty. I beleive you said it wasnt your type of music, but I assume you did the production on it. And I thought it was very well indeed! Very Relaxing. Nice Vocals too! In God we trust is also very nice. I love the choir. It was a very patriotic/religious song, and its nice to hear songs like that. Very Nice indeed. Please Me, the only one I grabbed from BRBs list, just because it had the words "Dance-Pop". I think this is a catchy song. Jackson, there is something about the vocals that seems like they might be upped a notch too high. Her voice seems to pierce through my ears, but I was also thinking this could be attributed to the MP3 quality, which at 128 sometimes tends to slosh the drums into a mush, then expose the vocal really well. Ive noticed this on my own 128 mp3s, which are also somewhat dancy and darker. Very good though. I know this isnt your style of music either right? Nice production though. Did you write this music too or was it Glenda Langevin? If you ever want to do any collaborative stuff, I would love to use you for your vocals or something such, or also whenever i listen to your music, I get these urges to play around with the music, and remix stuff. Nice Job Guys! Its good to hear quality music as an alternative to the radio! =-CP. |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Thanks Capt'n,
Carolina girl, I did the production on and am doing a 6 song demo for the guy. All is well so far. I will post the other stuff soon. Not that it is NOT my type of tune, and yes it is pretty, but just not what I listen to all the time. I am versitile enough to like it though and resect it for what it is worth. Just a little sappy for me. I actually jok with the artist telling him that he is the "Acoustic Mellow Trent Reznor" All of his songs are written for an "X" Anyways, thanks for the input! More will follow! -Doc |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Hehe.. Thats pretty funny. Its hard to imagine a Mellow Reznor..
What type of stuff do you listen to? Just curious. =-Ben |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
I am a huge NIN fan, TOOL, and all the others out there. Actually had the priviledge to open for Tool, Bosstones and some others back in the early 90's up in Cleveland. Kinda cool... Small club (Flash's in the flats) in 1991/2 time right before they played Lalapalooza. Pretty much I listen to everything but country. Not a huge fan of that and just really cannot stand it. I try to stay open minded though. I like Widespread Panic, Phish, U2, and my wife has gotten me into a lot of Techno/Trance stuff these days. Paul Oakenfold and such. Gotta get that groove thing going ya know... I like to listen to the stuff on here a lot. Gets ya away from all the mainstream radio crap that is over playd in teh Washington D.C. area. (That is where I am)
That is all.... :-) Later, Doc |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Take a listen to this tune.
I was going to add my guitar part in but they would only let me play a G chord. MushatootinanyNay WackadidleDay |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Chris/IntelDoc,
Just listened to carolinagirl. Me likes! I really like your sampletank violin line, very tasteful and subtle. Its mixed in ever so slightly so that it retains a "real" quality. Sampletank rocks! As far as the overall mix, I really like it. I personally would have done something different with the reverb on the vocalist. It's a bit too contrasting with the simple and clean instrumentation for my ears, but everyone has their own style. One other recommendation I have is that you might want to bring the solo guitar down ever so slightly and try out some nice reverbs on it to see what kind of effect it might have. Maybe even automate the reverb to increase slightly over the course of the solo. Also maybe slowly bring up the violin line during the solo towards the end so that the solo sort of pushes you into the ending. By the way, I really like the girl's background vocals! Keep in mind that these suggestions are just some of those things that tend to permeate my style. Your's is definitely different, but I really like it. Keep the great tunes coming! And now, I figure this place is as good as any to ask a question like this: Anybody know anything about live webcasts? I've got to do one on the 24th, and frankly, I may be in above my head here. I'm assuming it won't be terribly difficult. If it wasn't live, I don't think I'd have any problems, but maybe a few of you cats out there can point me to some resources that would be helpful. Thanks. If I can pull this off, I'll point everyone here to the URL to check out the concert. Also, I'm sure I'll have to do a test run before then, so anyone up for some testing with me go ahead and let me know. |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Hey Chris
Thanks, and Thanks again for the MIC TIPS! :-) Always gotta plug that for ya! 319's were all I used, plus that ART DI/O box. Oh ya, and the RODE NTK for the VOX. As for the lead, I am going to lower that a bit. I did on the rest of the tune, but forgot to on the end. I will also look into the reverb and think that you are right. It will give it a larger ambient feel. The violin was going to be a harmonica, but I told Joel the singer/guitarist that I heard violin, so I put it in there as a test. He liked it a lot. I will try the automation on the verb too. That could be cool. Thanks for the tips, more to come! Later, Doc |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Swap, I love it. I can't stop laughing my head off. While I normally hate autotune, it seems to really give it a good-ole "Alvin and the Chipmunks"-ish feel. Thanks for the fun!

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Thanks Chris,
It's just amazing what we can do these days with high tech recording gear and fancy plugin software. I used a lot of compression, EQ, and panning to get the right effect. Of course the timing was critcal so I used grid mode to make sure everything was in sync with the midi time clock. Did I do good on that G chord? |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Swap
Way too much GEE Chord, flanger delay time was alittle long, considering the envelope filter used But the fact that this was done in Under 3 week's is truly amazing, Was that Andrea Bocceli singing backup hootenanny's |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
What I forgot to say was:
I really Liked it alot. Swamp metal is a style of music I think I'm going to like |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Mmmm... Swamp Metal. I like that.
I'll have to post some Tic Goo style and see how that goes over. There is so much freedom to create when you have all the gear and software. I see you picked up on the flanger and NasalVox plug. You must have a well trained ear Archtop. I'm so glad you liked. I spent so much time on MushatootinanyNay that I about wore her out. You know after a while it's hard to stay objective about a mix as complicated as that. But it's done and that's dat. |
