Hello bey12,

Thank you for listening.

Dreams was a melody that I had in my head for years.

My old violin teacher might cringe if she heard the middle section, but music is music and I think it's ok, my violin was in another room when I recorded that part ;-)

Take Care,
Gene

I am so psyched! I just found out that by searching "Shinock" or on my name, my record label and the approriate pages pop up within the top 3 results on Yahoo.

This is a nice surprise. Just had to share it with somebody.

Hi all. I haven't put anything up in while, but it's not for lack of output. (Just lazy, maybe).

My new thing is "downtempo". It's not for everyone, but I'm having a lot of fun with it. This is called Dance of the Black Eyed Virgins.

Enjoy.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Well it's been a while since I posted something also. I worked over the break and finished up my latest song, named stone
I had the idea of making this 2 songs, but that run into each other. Think Green Day with Brain Stew/Jaded, or Pink Floyd with Brain Damage/Eclipse, that sort of thing. If I did, the first one would be called pushaway, and the second one stone. It kinda just changes all of a sudden.
what do you think?

This poses a question, how do you make it where you have continuous sound, but separate tracks (Pink Floyd).
Does it depend on the software burning it, as to whether or not it has a break after each track or is it something in the recording process?

thanks
Tim

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

soundsurfr - Nice little dity. The bass note at the start had my attention straight away.

metaltim - I must say that the style was not what I was expecting from your name
Some nice stuff. Being picky I'd say that the piano line at the start is a tad loud, as is the vocals towards the end. Especially when they split hard left and right. Makes it sound a bit false, like they don't really belong to the song, but just thrown over the top.
But hey.... I've been guilty of that myself

Just read the rest of your post
You need to make sure there is no silence at the start or end of your .wav files, and then use burning software like Nero that will allow you to remove the 2 secs gap that is normally put between tracks.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

thanks for the tips aussie, its funny cause right before I bounced the song, I thought the vox at end where a little bit quiet, which is kind of what i wanted there, but i ended up raising them a bit anyway...
weird

i have to agree with your being fooled by my name.

I am into 'metal' also, im actually a drummer in a death metal band, the link is below.
but when it comes down to it, I can't sing, play, or let alone write death metal, or any kind of metal really, so I stick to mainstream.

I've never given it a shot, but does easy CD happen to put that silent space between songs??

I guess I should just get Nero anyway, most people rave on it..

www.circlemeetsasquare.com - go to discography, then any of the three songs off of the "Universal Rundle" record.

Here it is guys, the first recording of my band on my 001. Fast punkrock ain't for everybody but I'm ready for the judgement of my respected peers on the recording itself. If any of you happen to be into punk let me know!

A little Light at the end of the tunnel.
Ok, so the past 4 or 5 songs I have posted up here on the DUC have been, more or less, a little anger driven. This time, I decided to write something a little more like a satire. The music is also different then what I usually write like.
I also like the way the vocals turned out, and I hate my voice. So, give it a go if you wish.

Great track. Really enjoyed it. Vocals have a very dreamy quality to them. Only gripe is that they could be louder. Seem to get lost in the mix and I had trouble understanding the words.

HA, find one Agenda:Entropy song where you can understand the words.....i listen to bens music all day long (im more serious than you could ever imagine) and i dont know the words to an entire song yet.

as for the vox, i agree that they could be turned up a tad bit.

i count the days till we shoot out a couple tunes together ben, life will be sweet and grand as we sing about spray can cheese spread crap, dead beegees, sinning, bridget fonda, and of course.....ROY HOWELL

Thanks for checking it out Aussie. I was monitoring it in my car, and I thought the first verse came out pretty clear, cause the music was only drums and some electro-disto-harp thing. But, I do agree that the second verse could be turned up a bit. Of course, when I listen to it, I know what I say, so it makes it a biased argument to me. So, ill just take your word on it. Anyone else care to make some opinions?

jgehring I really like the songs, especially "Great American Syndrome". What is that sound at the beginning of the song. It sounds like someone got punched in the stomach. Also I love the the heavy guitars, how did you get them to sound so heavy.

Captain of all Pants throughout the universe...

Really nice, Ben... you are getting some very cool sounds. I love the 'harp-like' sound for one, but also, sounds like you created the big staccato-ish effect, that's kind of a solo(?)ish part. Interesting things on the vocal too.
The only thing I noticed is that the kick sound could fall back in some places, because it tends to distract from the great stuff you have going on. But you are a very creative Captain of the universe, and I commend you on another great job...

Captain,

I like your singing very much! And your 'mellow' approach of the song suits very well.
I don't hear any satire, in this song.

Good Captain

Enjoyed "Light" kinda ethereal? I've tried to place my finger on who it sounds similar to but the brain won't release the name. I don't have anything to add critically wise that hasn't already been said.

Keep up the writing, thanks for sharing.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

ok, i made a new song tonight.

once again the vox suck (on both mixes posted) but the 2nd one is a litter louder and better in my opinion. for some reason they sound great in my headphone but suck as an MP3 on my comp speakers. i still have no bass but thats nothing compared to the bad vox.

anyways, the song is called "whispers and dreams" (i must have a dream fetish) WHISPERS AND DREAMS

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

That's pretty, Bi0... there's something kind of haunting about it, and I really like the overall feel. You know, if the timing were just a little tighter, I think it would really make a big difference. For your percussion, do you basically set up a pattern and play to it? Or do you Midi it, and then quantize?
Oh, also, I think your voice sounds really good and should be more up front. If there's a line or part that bothers you, just redo it til you're happy...
Sounds to me like it's getting better and better... keep it up, Sir Bi0...

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Thanks kdotson; the sound in the beginning is my bass player punching me in the twig n' berries during a vocal take but it was funny so we stuck it in there.

Nothing tricky about the guitars, just a 57 on a mid-70s JCM800 bottom powered by a 100W Rivera Knucklehead. The guitar was a 94 American Standard w/ a Seymor Duncan Invader in the bridge.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

thanks roy, for the drums i find what "set" i want to use on my drums machine set the tempo and hit play, it does the rest.....my accoustic is what drags the timing off, i tried to keep up w/ the fingerpicking (and i can go faster) but its sounds like its being draged out the faster i go.

my friend says the vox arent to bad, maybe it's just me....im actually a perfectionist and im never happy w/ anything i put out.

well, thanks again for the listen

I apologize for posting a song outside this thread, and won't do it again, but I did want some feedback on my Strat from some who don't frequent this thread like the rest of us here.
That said, I am about to catch up on my listening here, and I can't wait... sometimes it's just hard to find time, as you guys know.

Thanks, Roy

bio, im appauled, I didnt even get the courteous first listen? Sinner....

Well, AFTER I downloaded it, and checked it out. I thought it was a good song. Like Roy said, maybe just tighten up timing a bit, and for me personally, Id slap a 1-band on the vox, and drop some of the lows, so it doesnt mud up the vox that much. But, you know what I say, If you like it, then dont change it for me.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Ptrbas, Thank you for listening to that. I enjoyed creating it as well. I was surprised how easy it all came together. The hardest part was the "staccato" as Roy said I beleive. It sounds like a synth, and took about an hour of solid work to lay down that one track, which is like 30 seconds long. But, Im determined to get my ovation on EVERY song. Thanks Again!

Scoobster
When you come up with the name, please let me know, I am curous as well. I am hoping to not sound too much like anybody, but you can never truely avoid that, especially when other people make the decision of what it sounds like outside of my own opinion! Thanks for checking it out! I really appreciate it man!

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Recap of latest posts...

Is there something wrong with me that I'm always saying it's like this meets that? nah, I didn't think so

soundsurf - dance of the black eyed virgins is nice on the brain. Got a sort of dub electronic feel..make some nice film music. I liked it

metaltim - Nick Cave meets Elvis Costello with your own new twist, Nice mix, lead vocals could be a little fuller, they're a little tinny. It's original though and I love a song that goes in different directions, so I would say it's 1 song. mLike the harmony at the end.

jgehring - punk is good, especially when it's mixed that good. I'd bring the vocals up just a tad. Guitars hit my brain right.
I guess that's what I want - I want the song to hit my brain right. You guys do that, can't even say I was listening too hard to the message, but it felt right.

captain_pants - finally gave a bs id to mp3 and listened. I like your angry songs. Man you've got something really good going on. Do you ever play with a live drummer(I'm not one, just curious).

Bioforce - ethereal whispers and dreams. I'd like the drums a little fuller and lower and the vocals louder, but it too has some nice potential and started hitting my brain right when it ended too shortly.

Thanks for the listen Bey. I havent used a live drummer on any of those songs on MP3.com. I did do some of my own drums on some of my older stuff, but as of recently, I have just been programming drums. But, I do think a live drummer would be able to add more intensity to songs like "What this did to me" and some others as well.
Thanks again for the lsiten, ok, off to work!

Cool website! I'm listening to the first song which sounds like Woodstock-era Jefferson Airplane to me. Folk meets rock for the first time. Very cool. How'd you do that acoustic guitar pitch warp thing at the end?
