optimal level for 001 hardware vol control (unity gain?)

i was just wondering if there is an optimal setting for the volume control on the 001 unit. is it best to have it set halfway or all the way and then adjust the volume at my amp?

Going from my experience with pro audio consoles, I would say to set it around 2 o'clock.
