Latency issues
If you have latency issues, should you increase or decrease buffer size?

Re: Latency issues
You should decrease the buffer.
A decreased buffer will make your sound go through your machine faster but at the same time it will also make your hardware need to work harder. What's your interface and what are your buffers set to now? Also, what are your computer specifications? |

Did you try setting the buffer to 128 or even 64?
Your machine seemed quite fast judging by the specs. What OS? Is it a Mac? |

Look at it this way: The system as a whole affect latency. Choose your components wisely and don't forget to be creative about it. For example: A bigger session might require you to increase the buffer size / latency to be able to run on your machine. A smaller sized session might allow you to decrease the buffer which shortens the latency. Some times when I need to record something which requires a minimal buffer size but my session is to big for my machine to handle at a smaller buffer - I bounce my session with hundred tracks down to a two track session, record at ultra low buffer settings, and then import what I just recorded back to the larger session .. and voila. :-) This is a fairly decent article with pictures describing what latency is about: http://www.presonus.com/community/le...-audio-latency |
