How do you record overdubs on the same track?

how do you do overdub something without losing what you've previously recorded, on the same track?

As long as you're not in destructive record mode, you never lose what you've previously recorded.

for example.. i record vocals on the track. the vocalist made an error at the end, so its edited and ready for another take. i want to keep the original take (the good part) and continue recording thereafter on the same track , like overdubbing

Hello,

You've got to use the auto punch in thing (see reference guide), I haven't got pro tools anymore so I can't help you further and give you precise informations (My new system is coming soon by the way).

Hello. You may also want to read the Pro Tools Reference Guide and look into playlists, time stamping and voice allocations. There is more than one way to skin a cat, usually four or five in Pro Tools. You may find that anyone of those methods will make life easier for you if not in this specific task, but maybe in another scenario or in your overall skills. Good luck.
