Intel Doc... that was some wild stuff you guys did back then... I listened to 'Govt. Cheese' and 'Eggs and Toast', and I bet it was fun to remaster...

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Roy,
Thanks! It was a tad bizarre, but this was the Primus era and GOOD Chili Peppers time. Bosstones were big too. Intro to the "Bubble Gum" Rock that is out today I guess. Some crazy crap though. I listen to it now and just laugh. I was such a "Wanker" on that guitar for the Squid stuff. The solo in "Larva" at the end was cool. Definitely a Steve Vai lover at the time. The studio had an old Eventide Harmonizer. 900 series of some sort. I just turned the dial during the solo and wha la! It was cool then!

All good ole' fun! at 15 to 18 years old!

Thanks,
-Doc

Oh ya! Roy....
The "Scrambled and Fried" vocals in the chorus are my normal Lil' Kid voice. No effects.... SCARY!

Thanks Tito,

I will post some new work soon. How about a bike video? I'm planning to do one... Which camera did you use?

Take care,

I don't know any bikers but it sounds fun. I used a Cannon ZR10 which is a NTSC digital video camcorder that uses miniDV tapes. It's about the size of a walkman. The resolution isn't the greatest compared to more pro models but I think it looks great. It's about in the middle. They cost around 7 or 8 bills however I got mine used for 3. A good deal!

new recording. It is a live recording i did last night on an old blackface adat with the behringer ADA8000 as ad converter.

I also did the FOH-mix, and recorded this "blind" to the adat, and mixed it today...

I'm a Freestyle Mountain Biker!!!
I have a JVC mini DV Camera with firewire in/out, and i guess that would do it!!! I'm gonna try to get some footage, and maybe we can hook up to do some music and editing ...

Take it easy,

Camera sounds great, Roger. Do you have any editing software? I have Final Cut 4. Give my tapes and I can fix 'em up. I'm also down to film when I have time, so keep me posted.

Did you use Premier, Avid, or?? for your video?

It was my first editing project. I used Final Cut Pro 4, Apples flagship editing program. I love this thread so much that I had to invade the Windows side. We all have a lot in common and can learn from each other. We shouldn't be devided by platforms.

I couldn't agree more. Creativity, the music itself... that's all that matters to me. Please always feel welcome over here.

xprod77/Xavier,
I enjoyed the piece very much...love the guitar chords...clean and organized, but experimental too (in a very cool way). The bass sound is excellent IMO (what kind of bass?)... and good job on the mix too. Good stuff.
thanks, Roy

Thanks Roy! Glad you enjoyed it...you'll never guess what I used for bass. A busted up $50 Fender Squier directly into a Johnson J-Station then S/PDIF into the 001! All the guitars were done with this little baby right HERE Best $250 I think I have ever spent. I have a Mesa half stack but am finding that the sounds I am getting direct from the Tech 21 are surpassing the Boogie. Might be my less than adequate micing skills but whatever ... whatever works right? Thanks again for the listen Roy...I appreciate it.

Great live tracking Bastiaan! It comes across as very "authentic"!

It really reminds me of my old hole in the wall blues joint days; four or five nights a week in the seediest neighborhoods till three or four in the morning just going deaf and then downing that early coffee for the 7:30 obligations!

I've got a new one up.. haven't posted in a while.

Get UNDER.
the lyrics are there as well.

NOTE: Im trying to figure out that vinyl plugin from izotope. Once I do, I will apply that to the beginning of the track, and fade out accordingly.
Until then, this is all I could get

thanks for the listen

Also, I have another tune I'd like some creative input on, mainly, vocals..
Relume, (just a name i made up)
I'm at a loss on what to sing on here, some ideas would be appreciated, feel free to pop it in a session and send it to me..
It's kind of a dreamy, slow track, no drums..
tim

let's go is a cool track..
it seems it would be hard to do those alternating left and right guitar parts.. i mean only playing one of those, and getting the timing right.
or did you play it all the way through and pan them back and forth.
they sound like different tones, so i figure you played em separately

Aussie169 10-21-2003 12:38 AM

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Thanks Tim
Yes they are played separately. Two different guitarists on two different guitars. One's a Strat, the other's a Tele.
Oh, and the Strat is right handed and the Tele is left handed, so this track should look and sound cool on stage LOL.
Thanks for listening.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

well....you even have time times right...It was a motorclub with 8 members...(i think an excuse to run a pub... ). When we came in they needed to heta up the place a bit, so they got one of those hot air canons that run on petrol or something. Sure way for a headache...

Neighberhood was ok....it was was of those tin-sheds on an industrial estate (fancy way of saying in the middle of nowhere )

And the band had a last minute "swap". The leadsinger had an angina, and so he swapped places with the backing vocal-guy...

Xavier,
I'de like to try that Tech 21 sometime...As far as the Fender Squier, I grab a Squier we have here every now and then, because it really sings for me on certain clean stuff. For some things, it's better than my good Strat. That Squier bass of yours sounds great too, it really does...
This is something I played using the Squier.

Gorilla - nice spooky tune dude! I fully enjoyed it, especially the fu**ed up vocal effects.

Clutch - love the groove on your song, and the v/o on the answer machine is great. There used to be a show out here in LA that ran stuff like that every Saturday - too bad it's gone now, I love the vibe of voice messages over music. Ben Folds Five did something similar on their last album before they broke up - too cool.

Blindmelon - great sounding recording, very clean and pristine, nice work. I'm a big fan of acoustic music, yours is well written and performed to boot, congrats.

Here's one of mine that I posted ages ago when this thread first started - it's come quite a long ways since those days in July . The 'demo' version is now officially finished, and I'll be heading into the studio to do final re-tracking of almost all the instruments over the next couple of weeks.

Falling Down (streaming MP3 - requires iTunes to play).

here's another one, not quite as far along in the process, but getting there:

Music Revolution

Enjoy, and keep up the good work everyone!

Jamlaw,

I really liked your "Black Hole" mix, as well as the genre of music. Your sound is contemporary and fresh. I am truly surprised that the guitars were laid down using a pod. It sounds a lot like a Mesa. Listening to your band makes me wish I still played metal! Unfortunately, the piper (me) oft times doesn't get to call the tune. I guess I'm just a studio whore now.

A lot of the posters here have done an excellent job mixing with the limited equipment they have.

Excuse me now, but I think I'm gonna go plug into a Marshall and rock. Thanks for the inspiration, everyone!

Okay,

New to the DUC, but I thought I'd give it a go. Here's a song I have worked on for a local musician. We recorded in some of the most pitful conditions i have ever imagined (guitar was recorded in a hallway b/c it was the only quite room in his house (roomates), drums in a practice room (with other bands bleeding in) and the bass was a twig with a string on it with half of the pickup not working. But here's what we got...give me comments / critiques...I wonder about adding some more low end into this and peeling of some highs (possibly harsh)...if you think I should peel off some highs give me an idea of what freq's it would make sense to do this in..thx

Here's the link

Thanks for the props Gary but HELL NO - the rhythms weren't laid down with the POD the rhythms are MESAs baby. The POD was used for the gtr solo after the 2nd chorus and for the wierd melody guitar during the choruses that sounds like a keyboard!

BTW - This post needs a sticky like the one on the PC side!

Thanks Slim, the phone v/o's were by my eldest daughter and a friend of hers - I happened to record them for posterity and decided to try them in the track. They timed out perfectly and added a bit of humour too so I kept 'em.
Currently working on more stuff with "groove"...

I haven't had much time to check out the latest postings but I'll be sure to when my current gig is over (please let it be soon!)

Thanks once again.

Sweet sounding tune, Roy. One word, LUSH. Love the ambient feel to it...were all the "sounds" from the Squier? Or was there some MIDI in there?

At least now I know that my ears aren't failing me!

I never heard a POD produce THAT kind of rhythm sound before. I was starting to think that I was going to have to buy a POD if it could.

Really though, great job on the two songs I've heard. I'll have to go back to your website and check out anything else you have posted there.

You other guys and gals keep those tracks coming. I have enjoyed them very much, so far. I especially like when you mention what equipment you used and on what parts. Very informative for us all, I believe.
