DDP,
I just listened to both songs. I really do like your voice, man... and the first part of 'Sots' is gorgeous. Is one of those a small scale guitar, or is it just a capo thing? (not the mandolin)... Thanks for the listen, Roy

mixmasterc,
I really like your production... you captured a dark mood, and hung with it well... Good job, man... Thanks, Roy

Plastik909,
'Hythasis' is really cool...it feels like you're in orbit, but with interesting percussion underneath. I think you developed it well, too, as it unfolds... I really enjoyed it. Thanks, Roy

I'm glad I finally got to catch up on these, and I'll be listening to the rest in the next few days.

Thanks, Roy

OK GUYS, here is my first contribution to the DUC.

this is a little 45 sec. demo i just came up w/ tonight(11/8/02) and once i get it moving foward it will be more than just a demo, but let me know what you think (be as brutal as you want, i RESPECT honesty)

its demo name is "taken for granted" but that will probably change.

Captain Pants,
I just checked out 'Sends Me Goodbye', and I really, really enjoyed it. Many interesting things going on... the classical guitar parts are great, and I love the recurring theme. It's feels fresh every time it returns, and the 'angel girls' in the background are really nice...(don't tell me that's you, or it will spoil my vision of the music... ) The percussion sounds to me like it belongs, and is well done.
Your stuff just keeps getting better and better, to me...

DaB, sounds real good, especially considering the few hours of production time. you on bass and vox, or?

Keep up the good work!

Roy- the guitars on the intro is a dobro!a friend of mine put in a little akg condenser mic (looks like a mini d112) inside, facing the bowl from underneath. he hard mounted it and added an xlr plug to the end of the body. he didn't like the sound and let me take it for a while(adding a huge crack in the bout the first day i had it). i plugged it into a joemeek vc3 to test, and that's the sound that came out, thought it was a great contradiction to the other part, which is pretty much just noise.. thanks listening- ddp
btw, i only sing the parts on songs that get distortion and flanger, anything in key is another friend. my singing had been know to cause impotency......

i just got back from Progwest in LA , anyone else out there go?

Docta' J,

I really like the Next Up compilation. My favorite song is the "Title Song". Really good groove. I like the music and the rappers style and voice. Great job.

MikeD, checked out your stuff. Pretty good! You did all the mixing at home?

I too enjoyed "Im that Child", and "Wanna Know". The beat kept trying to get me offguard, but I managed to cope with it! Good trippy song!
Keep it up!

Docta'J - love the steel drums! production sounded great to me.
does mp3.com make you edit the cussing or is that how the track on the cd is?

your web sites pretty cool too.

sorry for all the posts in a row, i'm on a download frenzy here is washington!

da BaSsTaRd!- liked the new tune, reminds me of 70's jam rock. "guitar-riffs-o-plenty".

there's a hhat pattern towards teh end that sounds like he's taking out a beat. is that a loop or is it played like that? sounds cool, cuts up the groove a bit.

honestly, my last reply tonight.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Thanks for the feedback Captain and DDP.

In regards to your question Captain, yes, I did all the mixing at home for the stuff off our new CD "Lessons" on Pro Tools. All the other stuff is about 4 and 1/2 years old and was done on ADAT XT's. Unfortunately, I didn't get to mix it and our drummers snare sound was pretty weak. I had alot more input this time around.

Thanks for listening!

Hello DUCers. I just put up a new song entitled "Murderer." This is probably the darkest song I have posted on the DUC yet.
I think a lot of you will like it, and I think an equal amount will hate it. Thats all I can hope for anyway.

Give it a listen if you wish! Thanks again!

captain_pants- tried to check out your new tune but the music link doesn't work. maybe it's me?

david001- sounds good to me. personally, not a big fan of canned drums but the vox are nice, very "sunday" sounding. i did a couple of CD's for a local christian band, if you've got a minute, check them out. they're a big hit with the youth ministries out here. the two CD's on the site i recorded but no longer working with them.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

captain_pants- that worked, thanks!
music paints a definite "dark landscape". really like all the sounds you've got going on in there. the vox seemed real low in the mix. hard for me to understand (except "dumbass") maybe that's what you're going for? or maybe it's these high quality microsoft speakers i'm using.......

Captain_Pants 11-15-2002 01:26 AM

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Hehe, I think you are right, I dont think its that the mix is too low; I think the vox are two mudded into the mix, I think I need to throw a one-band EQ on them, and remove some of the Low's, so they clearly stand out from the low piano and bass guitar. Cause I actually, DONT say Dumbass(its, "you've DONE AS you should", but clearly sounds like Dumbass).

Im working with someone else as to putting strings in the song, if that goes through, I will mix in the vox better, and send it up again. I did want to get the vox a little on the unrecognizable side, but just for the verses, the chorus I agree %100 needs to be cleaned up. I also mixed this with headphones(big mistake), and since I sang it, I can interpret what I say, and it doesnt sound as bad, but taking it from the outside perspective, I guess it would sound unregnizable!
Thanks for your help, and I appreciate you checking it out!

captain_pants- maybe i picked up on "dumbass" cause i hear it at work so often.....i work with 60 females and only 4 other guys.

looking forwad to hearing the remix, can't go wrong adding a string section to a dark song.

Ahoy Captain,
'Murderer' is killer... (had to say that). I think it is very cool that you don't restrict yourself creatively. And the sounds you've chosen keep it interesting. This is how I would imagine a typical Trent Reznor dream to be...
I do think the vocal could be clearer, but I still like the effect you used. What did you run it through, if you don't mind me asking?

Thanks, Roy (Mr. LXi )

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Thanks Guys.
Mr. LXi, Actually, what I did was record the lyric in a whisper form first, The run that through my J-Station Distortion Pedal, Then I recorded a normal verse Vox, and ran that through the Distortion pedal as well. Then selecting between the two tracks, I mixed them together grabbing certain words from one track and replacing them in the other track. You can hear so, when you listen to song, and on the second verse the last word is "as you wait, in the NIGHT"
and if you listen to the word "Night", it actually sounds like a scream, but it was just taken from the Whispered Disto. Track. And then I just threw regular clean Vox on top of that.

craiz730- hey not my style of music but the recording sounded clean. nothing in the production sounded "off" to me.
this might be odd but, the verse vocals reminds me of an old song by i think "the band" called (again, i think) "in the summer time".

roy- listen to several of your tunes over the last couple of days. very nice. especially the tones in "lovers".

I'm more than a little nervous about this. This is the first two tunes I've made available to open criticism.

I apologize that I haven't made lot's of comments about other postings. I have managed to listen to a few and most are so good it is intimidating to me. At work mp3 sites are filtered and at home I'm on an old slow modem and downloads take al - o - n - gtime!

I'd appreciate any comments you might have on these...

Raffles: Good job for your first outing. Some timing issues that will be solved with just more practice. Get a metronome and practice some with it..will help get your timing down. Also record with a click-track...does wonders. All in all tho..very nice song ideas you got there

JFranze: Great production! Your artist has a real nice voice there!
