Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Hi there,
I haven't posted anything around here in a while. Here's a little something I'm working on. I'm very interested in people's comments on the mix. Still checking out my new monitoring setup. http://www.controlnet.com/~makeMusic/Orion s_Belt.mp3 More info in the spirit of fair disclosure. I want people to understand that none of the sounds here are me playing. I am practicing this song, but I ain't at this level yet! This song is a commercially available MIDI sequence. My interest in the sequence was as a test for my GigaStudio/PTLE setup and a new hard drive I put in. All three MIDI instrument tracks are captured via 3 aux tracks and mixed in PTLE with Waves plugins live. Nothing was recorded. This uses the full 96 voices in my version of GigaStudio, and uses commercially available piano, bass and drum GigaSampler libraries. I posted this here as I see a lot of questions coming from people around here about GigaSampler. It's a great tool. Cheers, Mark |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Damn there's some good music around here.
Dr. John - Get Up! - Very cool. I like the whole vocal/vocal/guitar thing at about 3:20 especially. You might think about reposting at a bit higher bit rate. I think 128kbs might not be the best for the sound. Vegadark - Broken, Broken, Broken - The vocoder stuff is very cool. I like how you did that. It fits well. The Legendary Mr. Howell - Shut Up Baby - OK, I will, it's excellent. Nothing more needs to be said. Princeton - I don't use Real Audio so I couldn't listen. Any chance you might to an mp3? Milco - Morning - Cool feel. Keep going. Do some more. mix2much - Dance My Way - She's got a good feel, doesn't she? I like her voice. A bit like a female Dave Matthews to me. To me the mix seems a little squashed, but certainly not bad. 8mmoverdose - The Truth - Dynamite man. Very good stuff. Very good. The vocals are just perfect to me. The whole sound is just perfectly thick. It's like it grabs you and just won't let go. Did you do all the tracking? What vocal mic and preamp for her lead vocal/talking part? What a pleasurable 40 minutes that was. Cheers, Mark |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Mark, really great sounding Piano.Mix sounds solid to me except that I couldn't here much bass or kick probably because I'm listening on a cheesy laptop at work right now.Nice jazz tune and great piano playing as well .One day I,m gonna learn some jazz chops and trade in my old rock licks. mark - sounds awesome. that's old skool, man... liked it a LOT...

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Thanks Mark!
Reposting at a higher rate won't help streaming....it's just good for cds at mp3.com. Streaming is still done at 128. Glad you like our work. Take care! Dr. John |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Mark!
Your mp3 via quicktime causes netscape to crash on my computer....what a bummer! Maybe next time! Dr. John |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Dr. John,
That is a drag. Possibly you might just download it (right click/save) and try it in Sound Forge or Wavelab, if you have those, or convert it to wave and load it into PTLE. If you're up for loading another free mp3 player, you can always try Music Match, which is what I used to make the mp3. I'll look at making an mp3 with another tool I've got. Cheers, Mark |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Stu,
Thanks for taking a listen. I'm not sure if by 'bass' you mean bass guitar or bass drum. It should be piano left, bass guitar right, drums center. If bass guitar is light, then I'm VERY interested in that as I'm monitoring a new way and still working on making sure what I hear is what you hear. Does it need more bass guitar? When you get a chance to listen elsewhere, let me know if the overall mix was overly bright. If you'd heard and snare or kick I'd be a bit scared as I used only cymbals in this tune. It just seemed to fit. I would like to do a complete drumset one day soon, but so far this is what I have. Cheers, Mark Quote:

Yes, the mix is squashed but it was mixed on headphones and she doesn't like anything to compete with her voice so everything else gets the back seat. Eventually, I will bring my gear to work and have a decent mixing enviornment and that should give me accuracy. |

www.mp3.com/neopro
I have a few things that I have done over the years on there. Some were done in Cakewalk, some in PT. Not all of its good, or radioplayable, because some of it was done for an abstract music type class. Anyway, give it a listen. |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
MIXTOOMUCH I just listened to Dance My Way,Wanna Fall In Love and Learned Alot.Really like your mix, especially the drums which to me are one of the hardest things to make sound good.Dance My way.Really like the chorus on that one with the falsetto stuff she's doing.Fall in Love sounds almost like it could be more of a country pop song.Learned Alot floats along nice and soothing very pretty tune. Thanks Stu

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Mark I listened on computer speakers and it sounds GREAT! not too bright either....did you say piano -left? i could swear it´s in stereo...
more bass guitar would be nice maybe.....at least so it`s more noticeable on crappy speakers cheers, jorge |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Thanks Stut!! I'm really glad you liked the tunes!
|
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Jorge,
Sorry for any confusion!! The GigaSampler libraries for piano, bass and drums are all stereo. You're correct about that. All I meant was that I mixed the piano TOWARDS the left, the bass towards the right, and the drums towards the center. Cheers, Mark Quote:

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
I got around to listening to the other two tunes. I think the Dave Matthews influence was as much in that tune as her. It didn't strike me when I listened to the other two. However, I went back to the first one and it's there for me.

Nice Yavuz. Very smooth. Good guitar work.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Hi Mark,
fine mix you made. I can clearly hear the bass, even on my little Target pc speakers. Only I hear no bassdrum, but it's just me, technohead caring too much for the boom-boom sound. Good job! Voideco |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Roy,
I really love the gorgeous guitar sound you put up in Shut up baby! Downloaded your song and put it in my personal DUC-library. Awesome! Voideco |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Thanks voideco...I really appreciate it.
Mark, I finally got a chance to listen, but the page won't open. I'll try again tomorrow...anxious to hear it... thanksroy |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Check this out please. It sounds like New Found Glory but I am more curious about the overall mix and performance. It took me several hours to get an acceptable drum track because I suck. We paid 600 dollars for the one song and it was done analog style. We bought pro tools to finish the cd we started and I love it. I learned a lot from Matt Weinegar who recorded it for us. Matt was a member in Slider and worked in Cali for several years as an engineer. Anyways please critique our Song.

I just read that and I sound stupid so disregard that and please listen.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Brandon,
I'd love to listen to your stuff, but that link gets me to some absurd trivia question pop-up which then asks me to sign up for a free subscription to a magazine I don't want. I have no intention of going through that kind of crap to get to a download, and I suspect that very few of your other potential listeners will either. Is there a different site you might want to link us to, or can you offer some advice as to how to make the goblins go away? |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Yes, I got the same junk as soundsurfr...
Please fix. Quote:

Roy,
My IT guy is making changes to my domains here at work and messed up that one. I changed the link above and it's now fine. Give it a try. I think you might like the piano in this one. GigaStudio rocks! Mark Quote:

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
I made up this song the other night.
My first attempt at vocal harmony. Nothing fancy, just a little dverb and compression. I am playing all the instruments and doing all the vox parts. Song: I wish I had a Takamine Gui-tar It might be hard for you to understand the lyrics so here are the words to the chorus: I wish I had a Takamine Gui tar They're the finest made in Japan And if I had a Takamine Gui tar I'd start me up a midnight country band. |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Swaphappy,
you definetely should come to the WIN XP RELEASE PARTY and play that song But you might have to chance the lyrics then. Song: I'm glad I have a driver for XP I'm glad I have a driver for XP They finally made it at Digi And now I have a driver for XP I can stop 'wining' at the DUC sorry stress of examinations |

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Hey Brandon,
Cool tune kinda Blinkish, nice job. my only suggestion would be this. It sounds as if your going for a syncopated type melody in the verses, (wich is cool) but the vocals are a little out of time (not key, just time). the hi hat work your drummer is doing makes it even more critical to stay in time vocally. the rest of the tune the timing is great, but the flow of the song is stumbling a bit in the veses. (especially the first one) as you know (vocally) that is the first part the listener locks into. A thumbs up though, You're comin to Hollywood!! great job and good luck, Bloux |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
I had posted this song, but wasn't happy with the guitar work. Now I'm fairly happy...

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
As always Roy it sounds good.
I sort of remember this from before. I doubt the old version is still around to listen to. Would be interesting to go back to. The sounds great, but it is somewhat bright, to my ears anyway. None the less, sounds quite good. Thanks! Quote:

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Mark,
Nice piano sound!...really present and warm. I like the bass as well. So, if the demo came preplayed, are you mixing this somehow in Gigasampler? It really sounds great... Thanks for letting me listen. You are steering me towards Gigasampler, just by all these cool sounds you're getting, I tell you... Thanks, Roy |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Roy,
Glad you like the sound. This is just a commercially available MIDI file and commercially available libraries. I'll send you a copy of the MIDI if you want. It's from the guys who do 'Band in a Box' I think. It was given to me. The PTLE session is 3 MIDI tracks and 3 stereo Aux tracks linked to ADAT channels 1-6 as returns for the 3 instruments. I have another Aux track as a reverb return and a Master fader. That's it. I play the session, the audio comes back and gets bounced immediately to disk. Nothing more than that. Cheers, Mark Quote:

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Just checked out this site for the first time. Some great stuff on this thread guys!
It's amazing how polished a sound you can get from a Digi001, a decent mic and some great playing and tunes. Just got a website up for the first time, not as hard as I thought it would be, I believed it was all to do with computer programing and I was going to turn into a geek! I've just updated to streaming audio playback with Windows Media Player, there's mp3's on there as well. Anyway here's some of my band's tunes, check out some of the songs and let us know what you think if you have the time. Trancedental mp3 downloads Cheers! Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Sounds good Brandon. Very "Green Day". Are the drums recorded live? They sound good and punchy. Compressed through the digi?
Nice. |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Soundsurfr, Drums are live but recorded analog not with digi. We spent 600 dollars at 35 an hour (because I suck at drums and it takes me a while to get a good take) that is why we bought the digi001. Matt Wienegar recorded for us in Utah if anyone knows him. He was in Slider. He had tons of sweet mics. I desire that drum sound but do not have the mics. Thanks for the input.
