hi! i was feeling a bit frisky today and decided to upload my first song (go me!) these guys are a hard rock band, so i tried for a pretty in your face mix which was fun because the singer liked his vocals realy low in the mix. let me know what you think, it a pretty cool tune none the less.

The first one, Drama Queen. Just me being picky. If you're happy with it, that's all that counts.
Good luck, hope to hear ya on the radio one day.

To tell you the truth, I'm never happy with my mixes, it feels like I'm never going to end, so I just stopped right there.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Deave,

It's hard to comment on the mix due to the relatively low mp3 conversion quality...but what I would reccomend is picking up "Thirteenth Step" by "A Perfect Circle" for some comparison listening while mixing. 13th Step is IMO by far the best produced, mixed, and mastered album of Maynard's...and he's an obvious influence on these guys. I would bring up the vocals despite the artist's request...just compress the snot out of him so delicate stuff is around the same volume as the loud stuff...then automate dynamics back into it...sort of backwards from what you'd normally think of doing with compression and automation.

Joz,

dramaqueen and leech: Sound good...nitpicky, but I'd bring up the overheads a tad or maybe just add a bit of air to them...12 or 14 k and up.

the search: excellent mix...for some reason after listening to the entire tune through and letting it repeat I want to hear that riff/comp guitar in the beginning panned about 10 degrees closer to center and up a tad...just for those opening bits...everything else just sounds superb to me on this one.

8mmOverdose,

Regarding "My Name is Andrew"; I'd bring up the vocals a bit...I find myself struggling slightly to make out the words in the verses. The rest of it sounds great to me...ready for mastering.

rchaffin,

Regarding your son's tune "loosing control"...good for the genre! I don't know how to comment on it besides this: while listening it brings back a memory: I picture myself in front of the old nintendo in a heated battle against a college roommate playing Super Mario Cart with the stereo pumping this music at a volume so deafening you really feel it more than you hear it! (Don't worry, that's supposed to be a compliment!)

Well, That's all the listening for now...gotta head to work!
Cheers,
Chris

Both recorded live in my studio with 001.

rchaffin/Rick,
Just listened to 'loosing control'.....great effort by your son and his friend...amazing energy, the music itself would be really good for a video game. Good job, and I hope they keep writing.

Very cool...I bet John Sebastian would be proud... ...really interesting (and good) 60's-ish production on this...great string lines. I really enjoyed hearing this.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Hey guys. I got a couple new things here if you have time. First off, I installed 6.4 last night, after a little mishap, everything was going great, so I decided what better to do than bounce to disk for a few hours! On top of that, I finally got a chance to put the new ALesis monitors through a bit of torture. So here they are, all %90 complete demos, but some have some real quirks that I cant stand. Let me introduce you to the first track, " Reflection ", I like the track immensely, and it took a long time to get it going ok; I almost abandoned it. Im just having problems with the vocal mix, and I dont know if its the great contrast between chorus Vox and the Vocoder verse's.

Second track is called "Truth And Lies ",
This track I did with my friend Gene Backlin(you know him from the DUC of course), anyway, he added some neat string compliments to the song. My problem with this song is pretty obvious I think, the kick drum. Sounds good on a nice stereo, but if you play it in your average car stereo, welcome to stereo-speaker-fart city. Thats not so bad I guess. Anyway, let me know what you think of it.

And, last but not least, this is a track I did a while back, even posted it on this thread before, but this time I went through it, mixed it a bit better, added some backup Vox, added ANOTHER electronic guitar track, and fixed the drums around. This is " All of me ".

Welsome, D/loading now.

~~~
edit: Hey Scott, I gave a few listens to some of your songs. One was Emotion, and the other was Come Back Sun. The first one I wasnt too keen on, just seemed a bit monotonous on these old PC speakers, but the second one, "Come Back Sun" I thought it was really good, I thought the rhodes sounded good with your voice, and the guitars are coming through very clean on both tracks. Same with Vocals, good voice. Are they all Antares Autotuned? Or...any natural takes?
Impressively Clean and mixed well.
Wow this forum is pretty cool. Lots of people with good music. Thanks for the comments Pants... In the vocals there are two melody lines with 2 takes of each panned hard left, hard right. Autotuned for the purpose of keeping everything neat. I am looking at buying vocalign also to tighten up on them a little bit more, but i need some dough first.... The ones you heard were written in the same style. This One , second glass of water, is more unique. Check it out let me know what you think....
All,
Did a rough take with an old client tonight. Got to use the new 1176 on the vocals.
Chain was:
VOCALS: Rode NTK into Vintech 1272 into UA 1176 into Pro Tools
Guitar: APEX 435 on left and right into DIGI PRE into PRoTools.
Reverb - Lexicon PCM-90
Slight REQ4 on the guitar....
No EQ yet on VOX
this was my first real customer 2 years ago who did the song "So Astride" on my site. Had some fun tonight with just mellow music, but cool vibe and smooth, smooth sound. cannot wait for a second 1176 and the EL-8's....
TITO
Tracked in a bigger room tonight too. Like it alot.....
Enjoy, I will post it later when we redo it...
8mm/Robb,
'Distant Shore'...I really like the choruses on it, and Angelo's vocals are always unmistakeable...nice job. (get my email?... )
Inteldoc/Chris,
'Tito'...nice recording, both guitar and vocal...so you're gonna redo this? Sounds great so far.
Great recording doc!
Guitars sound awesome. Love those 435's. Where were they positioned?
That 1176 is a drool worthy purchase. Vox sound awesome.
IntelDoc 08-15-2004 11:50 AM
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
bubbaJ,
Guitars had the 435's going to them into the Digi PRE. The left was pointed at the 12th fret about 8 iches away. The Right was up at shoulder level about 2.5 feet apart from the other pointing down at the back body of the guitar, again through the Digi PRE. This seems to get more attack then bass which is what I wanted. The vox were tracked at the same time throught he RODE NTK into the Vintech 1272 into the 1176 and then to Pro Tools. Tracked in a 13 x 22 foot room. Slight Lexicon PCM-90 verb on the over all tracks. Guitars were panned 40/-40 and vox centered. Slight EQ on the guitars. Non on his vocals....
Everything was tracked at one take so the slight phase parts are when he turned his head while playing and singing. Gotta have him work on that.
Like the 1176 so much I am buying a second this week and finally getting the pair of EL-8X distressors.
Thanks for listening.
Really fat sounds. Great vocals and lyrics. I take is this is you performing?
Sounds good.
My only comment is that the slide is a bit overpowering(to my ears) some crazy freq's in there and maybe could use some eq/comp?
Anyhow. Cool song!
Alright, here's my first post of my work. It's a hiphop tune I have been working on with a rapper and a beat producer to help them obtain clients for their services. In turn, I will be using the song on my forthcoming studio promotional demo CD. It's the radio edit version so any sware words are kind of chopped out. Let me know what you think:
Yeah, thanks for the feedback. I think I'll actually end up re-tracking it. I worked on it so much over the weekend that I eventually just didn't trust my ears, so I'll sit with it a week or two and probably re-track.
thanks again, glad you liked the tune!
Hi everyone. I purchased a Digi 002 rack and a Dell Inspiron Laptop last november. I thought I would post a link to one of my songs that I'm fairly proud of called "Foreign Sky". The song is very personal to me, but I wanted to share how it came out. I dont think I'm really done with it yet, as I would still like to add some orchestral percussion. It is the first song I have ever sang on. I'm not too sure of the mix either-
if you would have a listen:
Very good production. Nice catchy piano loop with a great sound, plug over voice sample sounds great as well, overall balance worked out well also. Not my genre, but this is hit potential imo.
Great work.
Hey Gene Just listened to your track, cool stuff, I was surprised no Emma made it onto the track? Or are these computer speakers decieving me? Regardless, its a real peaceful track, a bit on the depressing side, no? But thats what I like.
Cool tune.
Thanks Cap,
You are right, no Emma. She decided that she needed a vacation.
It was an lesson in MIDI. In addition to the synth, there are 2 guitar tracks, the middle theme and the acoustic part.
Thanks again for listening, I appreciate you comments.
