it's been a minute, but WHOA !!!!

Tons of good stuff on here.

leaving the station was my favorite, guess it is just me and anything that doesn't contain guitars.

No offemse to the rest. AJ, sneakypete, ben, etc. All of your stuff sounds good.

Sometimes I wonder if this stuff was REALLY done on PTLE

most of these tracks sound "pro" for sure.

Makes me glad I didn't "step up"
to TDM.

Keep rockin"

here is my newest thing.

Remember, this is "house" music, so it is sequenced out and like 9 minutes long. Enables the dj to "mix" it in with other records.

hope you like it !!!

Re: Mac Mixes!!!!!!!!

Ok here are my comments on the last few as promised...

Ben - Sounds good, nice drum samples, wish I could understand the lyrics but I am not bilingual. All the samples sound good. Vocal is nice and warm without losing any up top. Nice job. Is it a real bass is is that a sample also?

Kris - Was this mainly done with Reason? I must say I am not an expert on house. Mix wise it sounds nice, I would maybe try to open it up a bit stereo wise with the melodic stuff. Delays, autopanners, stuff like that, it is all kinda sitting in one place. Could use some more glisten up high. Overall sounds great though.

geetar - It is hard to comment on the mix with this one because realplayer is streaming it mono at 20kbs. Good song though. BTW I did not use any outboard gear on oxygen. All stock 001 and 002 stuff, pres and converters. Nothing special mic wise, basic stuff. Vocals were an NT2. I mastered it in LE. Put something a little higher fidelity up, I would love to give you my thoughts.

pete - Listened to Fragile. Good band, very Evanescence. Mix wise, the vocals are too loud and spread, it is taking away from how big the drums and guitars need to feel to keep this rockin. You can hear the drums shrink when she starts to sing. Great song BTW. The guitars could use some beef and high end, are these real amps or Modelers? Bass sounds nice, and the production is pretty darn good.

Ok I have two mixes for you here. One is called Breaking Me (Rock Song), tracked on 001, mixed and mastered on 002. The other is called Airport (not sure what to classify it as). Airport is part of a concept album I just mixed, it was all tracked with 1 Rode NT2 and an Mbox (I did not track it). I mixed and mastered it on my 002.

Did you mean 'Extract from Possibilities' from 'Outside the Cube'?
If so, that was created using my analog keyboard rig straight into the 001's stock converters. It was all improvised and totally experimental.
Actually, all my music is mixed on my 001. The only instruments not directly recorded into the 001 are the drums, most guitars, cello, didgeridoo and vocals on 'Dreams'. They were initially recorded onto 1/2" 16 track then into my 001 through it's converters.
Personally, I don't have a problem with the 001's converters. One day I'd like to buy some 'nice' converters but I don't really 'need' them at present, nor can I justify the expense considering other priorities and what the 001 can do in standard form.

I'm looking forward to checking out everyone's mixes on this thread but at present I have used almost all of my download limit this month. 1GB is all to quickly chewed up on ADSL (I'm up to 960MB), especially with all the OS and Protools updates this month.

Hello friends. There is some great music going on here. May I toss a couple more in the group?

Ring Of Fire is a slide guitar instrumental cover of the Johnny Cash tune. Canterbury is a rocking dobro insrumental. They are pretty organic and mixed in PT.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Yes. I was playing around with dr. rex's playing synths and drum samples via cv.

The more I play with reason, the more I learn. Even the editing has gotten easier, learning the key commands is a must! I just use PTLE now for :

1) editing loops for reason.

2) "mastering" my reason songs. (I'm no engineer for sure!)

3)recording sounds from my KORG card or a mic, friends bass, etc.

I can't wait for all of these 6.1 people to "test" it out. I want rewire bad

Hi guys

This is my very first time posting a song here on the DUC. It's one of the songs soon to be in our gospel CD which is still in the mixing stages. I will appreciate any criticism/comments. Here it is:

I do track everything on the digi 001, and the chain is generally preamp - compressor - RME ADI 8 converter to digi. But when I mix, I generally buss everything down to 8 tracks (the RME converter is also D/A converter) to my crappy Mackie 32X8 board. Then I go from the master buss of the board into another computer and mix to my audiomedia 3 digidesign card.

Plus it was mastered on analog gear also! I like to bring the analog into it for what we do - metal stuff, I think it sounds better.

C'mon people !!!!

I must be the only one without a job right now, just finished my first remix.

A track called "stronger than I am " by an old school (well, early 90's) band by the name of Belizbeha, yeah pronounced

bell-is-beh-ha

All done in PTLE 5.1.1 with heavy TCE, yeah the old school version of it.... Came out pretty nice, I think.

If you have listened to any of my other tracks, this is NOTHING like them.

www.homepage.mac.com/kriswhitten

file is STIA_rmix.

8 minutes of funk, with some great lyrics.

sounds great. i'd have a tough time topping that bass line, though. its pretty good as is. i'll give it a whack tonight anyway...

one thing about that filter. instead of applying it to the whole mix, leave the vocals out. then filter the vox the other direction. or apply some other processing to the vox or something. i just don't like the filter on the whole mix. leave some elements out, you know what i'm saying?

sounds great overall...

Damn speedy response basstard.

That type of bass is definitive of deep house, so in the future I will get some drum tracks together so you can dub it out !!!!

P.S. I just went to the previous page and started listening, and so far

Roy's rasta rain is THE SHIZZLE. Roy you are such a pimp !!!

Josh, the no name song is the illy for sure!!!!

deconstruct, the dance pop track, oxygen, all of that stuff is jammin'

I like your guitar sound a lot, how did you achieve it?

badperson/Jason,
'Moving Target' is cool...it would be perfect through some phones on the beach...nice and laid back. Somebody mentioned a similarity to Jim Morrison (which I can understand), but you also remind me of Van Morrison, which is also meant as a compliment..... good stuff. thanks for the listen.....-Roy

yeah, Kris, I agree. I've heard more inspiring music here today than in the last ten years combined on radio. We'd best not let 'em know we enjoy the DUC too much or it may cost us in the end. Such as the fact that since I bought my 001 nineteen days too soon and have to pay $75 smackaroos for the upgrade to 6.1

Hi,

I have a song on our new website. We're playing hardcore with a strong metal influence. If you wanna check it out, here is the link to our site, you find the mp3 under downloads: Sky Bleeds Black Site

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

KaiXXX,

you get great guitar sounds. I'm assuming that's going direct, no? Several layered parts?

Very cool. The stereo field sounds very wide, with a fat clear sound. Nice work.

I have one more, I need to redo the vocal. I need to get into the habit of not posting things until they're really done. The new one is called "Falling Leaves," I was going for a sort of Rolling Stones vibe, copying the production style of "Exile on Main St." Any ideas, I'd love to hear them.

thanks, sorry to post so much. Lots of good stuff posted lately, the quality seems to go up around here all the time.

Hi,

thanks! The guitars were played through a Mesa Dual Rectifer Head and 2*12" Recto cabinet. I used a SM57, but nowadays I like AKG C414ULS better. Since I own a Recto 4*12" Cabinet now (the BIG one!), you know what to expect from the next recordings: An even phatter sound!

All the guitars are doubled, so you're hearing basically 4 guitars all the time.

Cheers

Just wanted to let everyone know that I'm going to do another webcast this thursday. This time with video (hopefully), and much higher quality stereo audio. Unfortunately, this will probably rule out dial-up, but I'll see what I can do to set up another broadcaster for low-bandwidth. I hope this one goes as well as last time, and thanks again to all those who tuned in two weeks ago and helped me out with some of the glitches. For those of you that have the adress, it should be the same. I'll probably post the address this time; up on the day of the show and deleted soon afterwards to help avoid being caught by ascap as we have yet to inform them of these webcasts. We're looking into what it will cost to make it a regular occurance. I love jazz, and the guys on this thursday's show are absolutely top notch. I hope some of you tune in!

Jamlaw,
that quicktime link thing is machine set usually when you install Quicktime. It defaults itself as the player when it is installed unless otherwise specified. At least that is what it does for my machine.

Great vdeo, but I already told you guys that I think.... If not I meant to...

viljoen,
Nice production on 'I Need You'. The drums sound really good, as do the vocals. In the Christian/Gospel arena, I think this is an excellent song. Thanks for the listen.

vocalvoodoo/Josh,
Very interesting groove on this new piece of yours. It's not easy keeping a one-chord groove interesting, but you did... nice drums and guitar stuff too (what kind of guitar were you playing on this?)
And how did you get the background stuff...kids, etc.? (that really adds so much to it...great idea) ... thanks, Roy

hey roy, you ever listen to the album jeff becks guitar shop? very cool album and parts of she wild kind of reminds me of it. great job!

kris i tried this link www.homepage.mac.com/kriswhitten
but it didnt work for me.

kaixxx. i really like the music, nice recording as well. i think the vocals are are a little thin for the style of music, just my opinion, i could be wrong! i think a steady diet of cigarettes and jagermeister would put some growl into the vocals.

once again i have been dragging ass on keeping up with the new tunes here, sorry!

i am listening to the vocalvoodoo song from a few pages back, i like it. nice slow groove.

and Pure- "Messin' around.mp3" was a nice track for just messin around. the acoustic guitar really sounded like an acoustic guitar. to me, most "home recorded" acoustic tracks dont sound very good. i liked yours. i actually just listened to it again- nice job.

thats all i have time for today. send my "critics paychack" check to my PO box.

oops almost forgot. i watched part of the deconstruct video, and what i saw looked pretty killer to me! but my server was not allowing it to stream properly so i gave up on it after awhile!

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Hey thanks Bad and O.D.! You both seem to like the accoustic, so here's what I did:
I always compress to tape, eq on mix, and some verb layered with some delay for some "wash". Nothing out of the ordinary really, except that there's some phasing going on with the guitars in "Clarity", which drops them behind the mix. But there's enough presence on the eq that they still stick out.
"Messin'", I actually forgot what the riff was that I was playing after the bridge, so I just cut right to ending it. lol. I do that a lot where I'll just throw up a mic and hit record for 10 min. till something happens.
Thanks again for listening. I'll have a new one on there later today I just finished using horn samples. Check it out if you get a chance. Cheers!
Oh and btw Havoc, I really like those 2 tunes you threw down. Some nice grooves. Keep up the good work.
