Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

I think i posted this before, but i mixed it again with all my new knowledge

The tracks are recorded with old adat blackface recorders.

here's the link: http://bastiaan.ods.org/rocking.mp3

I did not play any instruments on it, and something went wrong (me... ) with the toms, but for the rest....lemme know what ya think!

Bastiaan,
I love the mix, and this band too (Fun Junkies). It's good to hear some pretty straight rock now and then. I think you may have posted a few other covers this band has done, and they always do the songs well.(and your mixes are great).
The guitars sound just as they should to me, and I love the vocals. Where did you say these guys are from? .... thanks, and I'll post those guitar tracks this week. -Roy

Hello Digians!
Here's an Industrial metal one! It's "Halon Inhaler". Johnny Rotten styled vocals made with Pro-52, Sample Tank, Amplitube, and a Kurzweil nose dive at the end!!!

enjoy............

Keep on rocking Bastiaan, great mix. Is this band from Arnhem?

Groet,
Pieter

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

More from Dieren (20 km from Arnhem). It is not a real band, more like some guys that have fun together with making music. They perform once every 2 years or so...

Roy, i indeed posted some mixes from the same band before, but i am remixing them. I wasnt satisfied with my previous mixes.

Roy, if you are having trouble getting the songs from our sight then you could try our mp3 page which has the same songs:

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Roy, thank you very much for the kind words. We are in Denver. Everything you heard was recorded and mixed in our rehearsal space. Drums, bass and some guitar and vocals were recorded on a Digi001/g4 rig, the remaining tracks (gtr, vox, percusion) were recorded on an mbox/xp rig. Mixing was done with the two rigs synced (mbox master/g4 slave).

Thanks again,

Peter

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Alright guys,
Here is my first session with Pro Tools. There is a long story behind it, I will get into that later. I am a guitar player by trade so the drums were tough. Bastiaan had a lot of good pointers, as well as a lot of other guys here. Thanks. This is not the FULL ON FINAL VERSION. I may tweek with the snare a bit more, but all and all, I really like it. Please let me know what ya think. It is my first time on the recording/engineering side done in my basement studio. Thanks! If ya have problems getting it let me know too. Thanks again for all who helped with ideas and tactics... This is only the beginning!

So far so good!

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

What's up, doc?

I like 'so astride', you have a very distinctive voice. The guitar playings good, and the whole song has a nice feel to it. I don't know if they're midi drums or real ones, but I can't tell the difference, so there you go.

Only thing I'd change is the 'woohoo', I know what you're going for, but it's kinda in the way, maybe put it off to the far side from the singer, it's a bit distracting now. near the end there, it's more of a good fit.

Good start, keep going!

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Thanks for the comment on the vocals, however, it is not me at all. You would NOT want to hear me sing at all! I just did the engineering/recording for the song. Guess I phrased it wrong. The song was performed by a friend name Dave Kauffman, who is a chiropractor in the Washington D.C. area, he also plays in a band called "Land of Malls." He does have a pretty cool tone though. Not really a singer either. He wated to do these songs to show to the band. I am recording this for free seeing it is my first time.

The song was written for Astride Kircherr originator of the mop top haircut for the Beatles. Dave wrote the song to give to her. He has a friend of a friend thing. It was written about Stuart Sutcliffe. Kinda a cool jingle. That is where the WOO HOO's come from. I think that I will pan them even harder and lower them some. I think that he actually wants that now that I remember. But this was my first time RECORDING somebody. The drums are REAL and recording in a 15 x 22 basement room with little to no sound dampening. To me, the drums are the weak part, but they like it. The drummer chose to bring over his bad set versus the Yamaha Studio set. Their loss I guess. The heads were pretty dead. I used close miking with SM-57's. 5 total. and then 2 oktava MK-012's for overheads, then the D112 for the kick. Had fun with it. First timer ya know! :-) Had to play....

Thanks though...

db, could you give a detailed tutorial sometime on how you get those drum beats and what gear you used? Is that all soundfonts and loops?
Is the info on how you did it on your site?

This is my next skill I want to develop.

thanks.

da BaSsTaRd! 05-31-2003 04:03 PM

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

its 90% reason. most of the loops i used came right from the reason soundbanks. the others came from friends and the internet.

the trumpet, the rhodes piano, the african drum and some miscellaneous drums all were reason. the "real" drum kit and "real" drum loops i made myself with PT. the midi drum kit is played through the reason nnxt. you can get a copy here:http://basstardz.dhs.org/SF2.HTM (download the soundfont and import it to nnxt). the guitar was my crappy ibanez through my pod, and the bass is my most excellent MTD 535 run through my Tech-21 RBI.

as for learning how to do this stuff, its really easy because reason is really easy.

for the loops, i insert a Dr.Rex loop player, choose the loop, select the sequencer track for that loop player, then hit the "to track" button on the loop player. that sends the loop to the track as midi data, which triggers off the loop. then delete what you don't want. there's something really cool built into reason. if you highlight a loop on a sequencer track then right click over it, it will bring up a menu. there's this thing called "alter notes". it will randomly swap around the notes and it messes things up - usually in a good way. experiment with it...

for instruments, i set up a midi track in PT, and set the output to channel X, which is represented in reason in the reason hardware interface at the top of the reason rack. then just record and tweak to effect.

one BIG word of advice - get a mixer to monitor with and your life will be so much easier...

that is all...

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">DB! I think that I used the same REX loop in a little piece I did in Reason when I first got it! I forgot what it's called...circles maybe? It's the one that your song starts with. Only thing is that I played mine at like 70 BPM or something. Mine also kinda sucks! I was and still am pretty new to Reason. Waiting for Rewire support. I have it posted on my website Here ...check it out and tell me if you recognize the loop. By the way, I like what you are doing with your music...

Hello. I havent posted here in a while, but here is really one of the first songs I have been able to complete in quite some time.. It is not %100 complete, but it is getting close. About %25 of the Vocals will have to be redone, mostly just the bridge because theres just one two many harmony double ups on there, but I am, nonetheless, proud of the song..

please enjoy:

www.mp3.com/agenda_entropy

the name of the song is "My Promise" It should be the very top song on the list..
Thanks agian,

Hi Guys, I've uploaded another one of my big dozen-selling hits. It's called Perceptions. The backup vox is my own dear mother; the little girl at the end is my daughter when she was 3, just over a year ago.
If this link doesn't work, use my other one above or go to www.mp3.com-David_Pumple. Thanks, and go easy on me, my 51st birthday is coming up soon, and I'm starting to get worried about my heart.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

I wrote, played, sang, and recorded all of this track myself onto a Digi001. This is the first track I have ever written. I now have half an album written and would like to start shopping it later this year.

I was just wanting some opinions, because the only opinions I have are from people who do not actually work on music. I know the mix is bad, but I am more concerned with the level of songwriting (arrangement, vocals, sounds, etc...) I lot of people seem to like it and I want to see if that is representative of what I can expect from people closer to the industry. Any feedback is really appreciated. The link,

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Hey, DB, you rock the socks off the jocks. Man that track is just awesome. I was listening on my studio cups, and when the 'Ahhhyaaaa' farsi guys came in, I nearly fell out of my chair. That just rules. Can I steal that from you?

Jeremy, I liked your song too, as you probably know, it has a lot of A Perfect Circle/Tool feel in it. If you're shopping it around as a song, you should bring the vocals up more in the mix. I had to listen on headphones to hear the words, and I would rather blast it on speakers. But I think this could easily be marketed, and I could see this version on alt-radio without too many improvements. If I was going to recommend something songwritery, it would be to find some more hooks for your song. When the song was over, I wasn't really left with anything running through my head, a memorable or catchy hook can add a lot of marketability to this kind of dense/dark music. (listen to 'Judith')

And Mr. Pumple, your song is still downloading, but I loved 'i'm on board jack', so I'll probably like it too.
