A good CD burner and 2-ch AD/DA converter?

I'm considering buying a mid-to-pro level CD burner, and a nice two-channel AD/DA converter, so my mixes sound more faithful to what I hear on the monitors and in the headphones when I'm done mixing. Would this even work if I want to record a 24-bit session onto a 16-bit CD burner?

Would ProTools have to do the conversion from 24 to 16, or could I get the AD/DA unit to do this? Ideally, my end product would have smoother high-end, and more clarity overall. Does anyone use a setup like the one I'm talking about? Is it better than the bounce-to-disk method?
