Carbon & Phantom Power recall

Hello all,

Just got my Carbon. All my I/O settings are recalled correctly each time I power up with the exception of any inputs that require 48v. This requires me to go through the inputs on the front face of Carbon and turn on phantom power for each mic that needs it. Not a huge deal, but seems to be an annoying lack of recall before I can get creative. I have not found a solution on the software side.

Any one else had a similar issue, found a solution?

Thanks,

JN

Hello,

This is by design as a safety precaution to protect against the case where a user may connect a ribbon mic when the unit is powered off. Then, power on the unit and not realize phantom power is being applied. Depending on the particular ribbon mic, this may or may not be an issue. But, we wanted to err on the side of caution. That said, the opinion on correct behavior here differs. I'd heard users say they like that phantom power is disabled on power up. And, others say they don't. So, we may need to create a preference for "Disable 48V when device powers on" in the future to accommodate both types of users.

Kyle,

Thanks for your prompt response. From a design perspective, erring on the side of caution certainly makes sense, especially in a high traffic commercial studio where setups and engineers can change with the wind. But with project studios like mine where the configuration is 99% static, it would be a god-send to have the ability to set-it and forget it.

To avoid the ribbon mic disaster, having the start-up default set to disable 48v would be sensible. As the end-user, the ability for me to go in to software settings and toggle it off so that it would stay active on continuous start ups would hopefully satisfy both camps/concerns- at that point, the designers did their best to warn and protect, but also gave me the ability to choose for convenience- any fault should be on me as I changed it.

I would welcome the patch change to make it happen.

Best,

Jeff

Yup, totally reasonable request. Thanks for the input!

Yes, although it's not a big deal, a preference tab would be great !!

Not really an issue for me BUT Yes would be nice feature. Especially since my ribbons actually use phantom power to run on.
