Now – everybody cares about Noise Blasts, the single most-important Pro Tools Bug.
However, if nobody cares to chime in @ IdeaScale, that may only indicate that they have given up hope, or simply just don’t have the time, or that it’s Avid’s “Duty of Care” to fix.
Perhaps the above Posts give IdeaScale a wonderful chance to prove its efficacy.
I genuinely hope they result in an “All-time Fix for Noise Blasts”!

Please convince me Pro Tools 12 is safe to use!

Never, ever experienced a 'Noise Blast'. Not on PT7, 8, 9, 10 (skipped 11) or 12.

This a Win only thing..?

Curious...

I compiled a bunch of individual Posts (4 IdeaScale links above) - if anything, they appear predominantly Mac!

Moderator TOM@METRO (Win 7 + PT12.4) has never had a problem.

Be great if everybody who posted stated their Platform/OS/Pro Tools version number.

Had experienced with noise blast when I had 11 on 10.10.5.
went away after I went to 12 on the same OS.

Thanks for posting!

It's good to know what works and what doesn't.

What version of 12 are you using?

Big thanks to mr xy for posting about Ice9 – a free VST/AU plug-in hosted in Blue Cat’s PatchWork or similar:

http://www.cerberusaudio.com/Software/Products/Ice9/

Ice9 won't affect the audio unless its adjustable threshold has been breached

I've experienced this once or twice? Like a blast of white noise? I presume like most of my bugs is windows based.

I have regular noise spikes on 12.5.1 However, I know what causes them - high memory footprint, oversampled plugins.

When using plugins with oversampling, think about the potential difficulties for hosting multiple sample rates in the same session. All that has to happen is the plugins are loaded in a different order, and suddenly ProTools is confused about audio engine settings. Sometimes oversampling causes plugins to block audio and not function, sometimes it causes a DC spike at +700dB  like someone else posted, I think my highest I have seen is about 771dB. When worried about some plugins, I have the habit of muting my headphones/monitors before enabling them or unfreezing them. Luckily, the DA's can't deliver above 0dBFS, but I do worry about my master bus hardware inserts, but I send almost full scale peaks there when mixing anyway.

One instance on it it's own might be okay, but it is when the CPU is playing up on dense mixes and large plugins are used that I experience dramas. I can't blame Avid for 3rd party plugin developers not building in safety features like some kind of sequential memory/CPU loading process.
