GUI freezes frequently on M1 Mac starting in 2021.6
+1 here for beach balls on M1 / Big Sur . Rolling back to 2021.3.1 fixes it . Avid, please sort out whatever problems you've introduced for M1 users in your first "officially supported" M1 release!!

GUI freezes frequently after Update
Hi , I recently got myself a M1 Mac Mini (Yes I need to update my signature) and it ran perfectly until I installed the newest PT Update. Now the screens freezes at least twice a minute or so for a few seconds. Since this is definetely not a lack of speed of the processor, what could be a reason for this ? Has anybody else got this problem ?

Re: GUI freezes frequently after Update
Yes. Many people with M1 based Mac are reporting this issue here. Although 2021.6 was the first version certified to run on M1 processors, there seems to be many people having GUI lag or constant freezing. Most have reverted back to 2021.3.1 for a smoother performance but giving up on the new features for now. Hopefully the next release will iron out these.

How do I go back to the previous version ?

Download the prior version and install it. It will replace the current version.

Re: GUI freezes frequently after Update
I was experiencing that on my Win10 system. I turned off WiFi while using PT 2021.6, and it solved the problem for a while. When it happened again, I trashed preferences and continued to turn off WiFi. No problems since. (I use iLok USB, so I don’t need WiFi while recording or mixing.).

I open a ticket, I have sent Reports of the Mac and pro tools and also a video with the issue. They told me they are working on it. So I'm positive they will come up with a new version pretty soon....I hope. |
