What is Procedure to Update from PT v10 to PT11?
 

Hello,

Via my product details area, I downloaded various Pro Tools 11 components:

• Pro_Tools_11_0_0_Mac_79652.dmg
• AIR_Creative_Collection_11_0_0_Mac_79589.dmg
• Avid Plug-Ins 11.0.0 Update
• Pro Tools 11.0 Demo Session

I am unable to find installation instructions to properly migrate from v10.35 to v11. Other than taking my best guess, are the migration steps provided somewhere on Avid's Web site?

The Pro Tools 11 Read Me (Mac) (pdf) file does not provide any installation information.

uninstall 10.3.5
PT 11 is a drag and drop installer. Pretty straight forward : it will install necessary components on first launch
co install 10.3.6 is you need it

Should the installers in the folder <Avid Plug-Ins 11.0.0 Update> be installed manually, or will the installer do the job?

Actually, when I launched Pro Tools earlier this morning, I noticed the version was 10.3.5. I saw that there was a notice to update to 10.3.6. I started to download that update then noticed I had version 11 files in my Product Details area. I cancelled the 10.3.6 download, and downloaded the files shown below.

• Pro_Tools_11_0_0_Mac_79652.dmg
• AIR_Creative_Collection_11_0_0_Mac_79589.dmg
• Avid Plug-Ins 11.0.0 Update
• Pro Tools 11.0 Demo Session

When I extracted the Pro_Tools_11_0_0_Mac_79652.dmg file, I dragged the Pro Tools v11 file into the Applications folder as shown on the dmg install picture. That placed the PT 11 file in the Applications folder, NOT in the Avid folder, which is in the Applications folder. I then moved the PT 11 file into the Avid folder, thus replacing the PT 10.3.5 file in the Applications\Avid folder.

I then launched the PT 11 file within the Applications\Avid folder and version 11 seemed to open without incident.

Based on the above confusion, I hope I've installed everything correctly.

Do a clean install of 10.3.6 then install PT11. That way, you can still use your "pre AAX" plugins in the older version. While it's great that avid have put out 11 we're gonna be playing "catch up" for a while.
10.3.6 can co-exist with 11 on the same drive.
