Mark, Darren, is the snare low on the whole track to you or just when the "crunch" guitars are going? I had thought they needed to come up in the crunchy parts - and I was going to verb it a bit, but the drummer liked it dry and lower... that's one of the reasons we're letting people hear it - to get their impressions so we can change things now (isn't PT and total recall WONDERFUL?). Anyway, thanks for listening - all comments welcomed - it's only going to help us make it better overall.

Great mix... on the snare, to me, more than anything, it's a touch too tinty, or thin sounding...and could come up a touch. I 'hear' a little fatter, yet still, percussive snare... but using this one, I would try to fatten it up, perhaps with EQ...
Everyone's an expert [img]images/icons/wink.gif[/img] , I know...but that's my honest opinion.
I do say this only to bring it up to the quality of the rest of this fine mix... [img]images/icons/cool.gif[/img]

i just listened again and i think the snare sounds ok after all. its actually the toms and kick that i don't like. they're very boomy and they overpower the snare.

i changed my mind. i do like the snare. its a bit low, volume wise, still.

I'm with Roy in that the tone is the problem rather than the volume. It needs to come forward, not up, so I think that reverb would probably hurt it more.
I also agree with Brian in that the boomy toms and kick probably aren't helping.

Thanks Mark...I went through my Digitech modeler for this one. I actually put the solo down first (to a beat) before writing everything under it. That's an unusual way to record, but it helped make this piece more interesting... [img]images/icons/wink.gif[/img] thanks again... ~Roy

Hey da Basstard..someone told me to do that last week [cleaning cookies out] and WOW. All the pop ups I used to get are GONE!! I use to have a problem getting on here at Digi....index page would freeze for about 30 secs. and it cleared up too! [img]images/icons/smile.gif[/img] I surf the web using my PC!!!

Great job once again, Roy. Very nicely done. Nice to hear a guitarist who doesn't regard keyboards as his enemy, hehe. Everything I've heard you do has a certain idiosyncratic "Roy-ness" to it. I'd be hard pressed to put into words exactly what that is, but although each track is obviously different, they all kind of have your "logo" or "stamp" on them...definitely something most musicians stive for. i have a song, recently redone, and actually finished this time. (i posted it about 2 months ago or so.)

it is here the link for it is at the top of the news section.

it is supposed to be kinda spaced out, hence the reverb, but it has a nice little surprise transition in the last verse [img]images/icons/wink.gif[/img]
this is my first work that is piano driven btw.

One thing I thought was that the heavy drums got a bit too much by about half way through the track.

Yeh that transisiton was just something I was trying out. I was wanting to go from spacey, trance-like, to a full out rock song.

technically speaking though, how was that transition? volumes?
If you could tell, the tempo sped up also. obvisouly PT doesn't have en retarde tempo maps, so I just made it change on the spot right at that drum fill.

THAT TRACK IS AWESOME !
I'm not into instrumentals usually, but you got me with this one. When the first high solo starts, for a fraction of a second that very first high guitar note sounded like a vocal... you make that geetar talk, man.

This one is making my monthly "CD for the car", and it is roaring in the living room here in Brussels, and I'm getting stupid looks from the wife and daughter as I'm groovin' to the Mud Cat Blues...

I am working on my first "real" recording for my band, have one song (out of 9...this could be a while) almost done....I think. It's going to be real tough to say that I am done. Anyways, was hoping for some critiques/opinions on this track.

The song sounds very good. For the mix, the only thing that I would suggest, is the long guitar chords are overdone just a bit as the song progresses. I just suggest they either be replaced with say, an organ, or gone, to keep the music interesting during the vocal/verses. The punchy acoustics(?) are good in the 'verses'...as a matter of fact, sounds like you have plenty of good stuff to work with.
I think this is a very good song, and effort. And I hope you don't mind my suggestions. I think it can be a strong song. Good job, definitely, so far... [img]images/icons/wink.gif[/img] thanks for letting us listen... ~Roy
