Another Cover Mix I Did

This is another cover mix I did for Rebecca Roberts over in the UK of "My Heart Will Go On" from Titanic. The interesting thing about this track is that the vocals were recorded in Russ Hughes's studio in the UK...the Pro Tools Expert Russ! I arranged with him for Rebecca to record her vocals over there. For the track I again got hold of a descent midi track for a starting point, and then went from there. A lot of the orchestral sounds on this track are from either one of my Yamaha Motif XS8 sample libraries or Structure. I also used a bit of Xpand for a couple of the synth sounds.

The drum kit came off my Motif as well.

Tell me what you think.

Not bad, not bad at all. I'd have placed a plate verb with some pre-delay on the snare a little, it's pretty dry. But you pulled out a good rendition of the song.

Thanks, Manny, really appreciate it! The hardest part of the whole project for me was getting the right blend of orchestral sounds. Fortunately, I had some good options to choose from between all my Motif sound banks plus several I had with Structure and Reason. Between them, I think I got a descent orchestral effect.

I just listen to your track I really like it I would like a little bit more bass frequency (just a personal preference) and personally I really like the sound of the mix ( the guitar voice relationship) @ 1:10 and then as well @ 1:50 that's the perfect sound for me with the guitar/voice relation.

To me the 1st verse the guitars are fighting the voice too much. Listen at 1:10 section and the 1:50 section they have a better relation.

Sounds good

I think the voice needs a boost somewhere around the mid high-high range listening back I think.

How would you suggest boosting the bass frequency of the overall mix? A simple eq boost?

Thanks again for your feedback!

After over a year of recording, mixing and mastering my wife's(Amber Bowen) EP - The Count, is released and available to stream on soundcloud and to purchase on iTunes:

https://soundcloud.com/fbrrecording/...ep-amber-bowen

I made the jump to Pro Tools after recording her first 4 song demo and having a system crash in Nuendo. It was a quick transition, with ups and downs. With the help of the users in here I was able to get a solid handle on the features in Pro Tools that matched my workflow. Thanks for all the help guys, and gals. These tracks are recorded in the old trailer I was renting prior to buying our house, and a great deal of the vocals were done on location. Mastering was done at Baker studio's, by Joby Baker in Victoria, BC.

Follow myself FBR recording and my wife Amber Bowen on facebook to keep up to date. You can also find our stuff free to stream on the CBC radio 2 webpage, just search for Amber Bowen. Thanks again for all your support, now off to the studio to start tracking some new material.

Very good production! I think because you have a great mix - hard to pull anything off without a decent mix. I like her vocals but I think she need to control her breath more.

Re: Let's hear your latest stuff....right here

I'd love to get some feedback on this track that I just did today. For some reason I still feel like my drums aren't good enough yet, but could be better. My intention was to produce something like that of the 90's R&B or what they call them? Urban? Anyway, I would appreciate some tips on how to improve production. Dont know if link will work. Might have to log in to SC to get it work.

Piano solo

This is my first solo piano track. I use very little processing because this library sound very good. I haven't master the track yet, so volume is a little low. Would like to have some constructive feedback.

I like the song, it's really nice. Good job on your first solo piano track.
Are you going to do anything more to it?

Live studio recording session

Hi guys,
I wanted to share a recording session that we shot last week in my studio: https://vimeo.com/89245543#at=0

It's was recorded live with 6 cameras and the audio went into Pro Tools 10.

Apart from the guitar's delay, all the reverb that you hear comes from a stereo room mic in the center of the band.
The mic is a Cascade X15 (stereo ribbon) going into a Valley People Dynamite compressor.

I love those kind of recording videos, please share yours if you have some.

Enjoy!

Hi: this is a recording I made 1,5 years ago in Chile. I was lucky enough to have a guitar master like Esteban Espinoza to do this.
The mics were M-Audio Luna II for the body and Pulsar II for the bridge and a pair of Solaris II for the room, believe it or not. The guitar mics direct to the Avid Pre and the room mics to the Omni Pres, being the Omni the I/O and recorded @ 88.2/24 bits, all recorded in a classroom, not in a studio.

The final mix is here:
https://soundcloud.com/felipegonzalez-1-1/esteban-espinoza-tonada-en

You can watch the video with the unprocessed audio here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-59X758sgJ0

Regards.

I've posted this before but we re-recorded it:

https://soundcloud.com/projectmay/up...ttle-bit-extra

I'm generally fairly happy with it, the vocalist thinks the vocals sound too "raw". I've already got the standard compression, delay, reverb and distortion on them. I think maybe they're a bit loud. Is there anything else you guys could suggest?

He's not the greatest vocalist and I'm definitely not all that great at recording vocals which doesn't help. :p

Tweaked it a little:

Love Theme from On The Waterfront. Mostly inspired by the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra version, my first time using Epic Orchestra. I put this together to coerce the local high school (amazing string program) to program this on some future concert.

Okay. Last time, I promise. I'm a VI novice and this is my first try at anything symphonic--it's Leonard Bernstein's Love Theme from On The Waterfront. The ensemble is all the Vienna Instruments Epic Orchestra with some other bits and pieces thrown in.

Even if you don't want to listen, I would be grateful if you clicked through and let me know if the link is functional.
