My new CD
My new double CD of electro-orchestral music is now available. Recorded entirely on Pro Tools 10, with some additional plug-ins, and scored on Sibelius 7, and using some Sibelius audio tracks.

Take a look, tell me what you think !
Hey,
I just released my new cover. I did it with Pro tools & Eleven rack. Tell me what you think about it ! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O440SgfNO38 Peace ! |
Re: Take a look, tell me what you think !
I think I really dig it. your enthusiasm is definitely there!
It was, however, hard to tell when you were singing, or the actual song (I'm guessing you played it to the song) If you had the chance to do it again I would suggest either finding an instrumental of the song or just EQing the vocals out as much as possible so your voice is the only one on the track. Ill end with saying that I couldn't compete lol. |
Re: Let's hear your latest stuff....right here

Sounds good:D Just let your girl know to NOT hold the mic like that if she wants it to sound good;)
|
Re: New video up !
Yeah that's true but I bet they were just doing the video like that - ;)
Can't see why anyone would want to record with that mic when they have a rode as well That and PT wasn't moving for the video |

Re: Let's hear your latest stuff....right here
Here's a new tune written by a friend and myself and recorded with an Mbox 2 Pro. We then shot the video with a small Panasonic camcorder. We had just both turned 58 and wanted to have some fun and write a rocker. I drive a Beer Truck and my friend is a Produce manager so we don't do this full time so go easy on us : ) Cheers.

And why did you use a telephone for tracking vocals? :D |
Re: Let's hear your latest stuff....right here

Isn't that why you have a bass control on your hi fi system? As far as the telephone thingy. I'll listen again. Thanks Meads😊 |
Re: Let's hear your latest stuff....right here

If u hear low end but it's not there in another room or headphones - means your monitors are too close to the wAll - and or ur room needs more correction Ask me how I know ;) |

Re: Let's hear your latest stuff....right here
Hey guys,
I've made a recording and would like some advice. https://soundcloud.com/projectmay/test The vocals are going to be re-recorded because they're pretty rubbish in some places and untunable (he hasn't sung inabout 10 years, haha) but whenever I compare it to a professional mix (which maybe I shouldn't be doing) it seems to be missing some sort of low/mid punch which really brings these types of tracks out but I really don't know how to achieve it. I know that these tracks will have been recorded in studios with £millions worth of equipment in and this was recorded in my dining room but any advice would be greatly appreciated! Guitars were recorded through a pod and the drums are Superior Drummer, pro tools 9mp. I also think I've boosted the mids a little too much in this mix. Thanks in advance! |
Re: Let's hear your latest stuff....right here
Missing the bass here listening on both my studio monitors (in treated room) and on the headphones.
Is your room treated? If not you might be compensating for hearing too much bass and it's taking the bottom out. Other wise it's really not bad, a bit more verb on the main vox and guitars to give it a bit more depth, just a tad on the guit doesn't need that much in this style. I dig the song. |

Yeah that bass needs to be home in about 80 Hz 100hz 120 Hz somewhere in that area to fill out the bottom end for sure I like it 👍 |
Re: Let's hear your latest stuff....right here
Yeah. I think that's the problem. No treatment in room. Just sheetrock😝 That will be my homework.
Thanks very much for your replies YYR123 and Emcha_audio. I appreciate it. |

Do my vocals really sound like a telephone?
|
Re: Let's hear your latest stuff....right here
They sound ok b/c we don't know what you are trying to do nor what you want
I hear Leonard Cohen when I listened to it - however Leonard has much more bass frequency in his spoken/half sung vocals |
Let's hear your latest stuff....right here
I think I put to much LP on it. I'll take a listen. Shoot, I don't even know what I want to sound like😝
But like you said, it might to do with my room acoustics. |
Re: Let's hear your latest stuff....right here

If you are replying to me, thanks for your advice. I don't have a treated room, it's just a standard room and is pretty terrible as far as acoustics go (it's all I have available). I put some on the guitars but will try a little more and yea, the vocals are a little too dry. |

Re: Let's hear your latest stuff....right here

Re: Let's hear your latest stuff....right here
No you should go to the source and find out what happened to it
Hopefully you can get it back on the source (ie it wasn't recorded like that) and you just re EQ and compress and put it back in the mix |
Re: Let's hear your latest stuff....right here

Bass through a Sansamp. Drums were superior drummer. So technically it should be fairly perfect already (if that's what you mean by source?). I haven't done too much eq subtraction in the mix. Boosted some of the mids by about 2db in the master fader along with some harmonic exciter using ozone but that's about it. I appreciate all the feedback so far. |
Re: Let's hear your latest stuff....right here
By source I mean the audio file ie your track not the 2 Chanel mix
|
Re: Let's hear your latest stuff....right here
Short warning
I just listen to your track I really like it I would like a little bit more bass frequency (just a personal preference) and personally I really like the sound of the mix ( the guitar voice relationship) @ 1:10 and then as well @ 1:50 that's the perfect sound for me with the guitar/voice relation. To me the 1st verse the guitars are fighting the voice too much. Listen at 1:10 section and the 1:50 section they have a better relation. Sounds good |
Re: Let's hear your latest stuff....right here
If I was to treat my room. Would I put Absorption or Reflectors in corners for Bass? I'll pull my speakers off wall a little. Everything is Sheetrock except for bed and floor rug.
Thanks everyone. 📀🎶 |

Don't forget side reflections and the back of the room - right behind your listening station off the back wall (head level)
Look at nice studios and you can see some ideas w/o having to pay a company to come do it for you Rode used to have a video about a guy doing the monitor placement along with reflection calculations on the net - I'm sure it's on YouTube still but I haven't looked in awhile |
Re: Let's hear your latest stuff....right here
Sounds good YYR123. I'll see if I can find it.

the funk one, the rhythm guitar is up too much, too right and distracting from the lead. I would only have that when there was no lead. just my opinion. Chris |
One of My First Mixes
About 2 years ago I did this mix/mash-up for a young lady over in the UK. This was one of the first full mixes I had ever done and was still on a steep learning curve with Pro Tools and VI's and all the rest. Rebecca (the singer) was 16 at the time she recorded this and she did the vocals on the mic you see in the video in her bedroom using Garage Band. So all I had to work with was MP3 files from her. The mash up was completely her idea! She sent me individual tracks for the various parts and then I completely arranged everything. I started with a MIDI track of Dynamite I found online somewhere and about 1/3 of the parts are off of that. But the rest is stuff I added or rearranged off the original midi tracks. There's a lot I'd do differently now, but still...gotta start somewhere. Tell me what you think!
You can see the video Rebecca did here. |
