hey buddy nice song, the vocals rythem and drums sounded great, i think the lead guitars the whole way through the song are a little lacking in punchiness. Kinda sounded like they where recorded with a direct input. However the solo at 2.15 sounds fine!

take it easy

my attempt at a pop song.

need advice re: length - structure etc.

http://www.bleeding-ear.co.uk/newsong.mp3

Hi protein...
Nice pop song, good feel overall....first impression on the structure...the intro should be shorter, IMO...thought it was gonna be an instrumental for a while there. Cool verse vocals(and singer), but it's begging for chorus vocals after each verse...as well as the breakdown section...wide open for some killer vocals/harmonies. I like the idea of the vamp percussion dropping out, but you may want to ease a little out at a time.

Just suggestions.......good job so far. Thanks for the listen. -Roy

I recently "finished up" (are we ever done when left to our own devices??) a song & I would love honest & critical feedback.

It was done on a Digi001 PT 6.4 system.

Song is called Generations (By My Side), and you can check it out here:

Again, all feedback, public or private, is greatly appreciated!!

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

I haven't posted anything in awhile, but thought I'd share a new tune I've been working on. This was done with a bunch of new gear I've purchased over the last year or so.

Here's the "greasy kid stuff":

Guitar chain is a Gibson Les Paul with EMG's running through a Metaltronix M-1000 head and a custom built Buzzbomb 2x 12 from http://www.earcandycabs.com
I used a SM-57 and an SM-58 through a Vintech 1272 for the mics on the cab.

Vocals are a Rode NTK through the Vintech 1272.

Bass guitar is an Ibanez SR-400 through a Tech 21 Sansamp RBI.

Drums are stock BFD V1.5

This was mixed in a Ready Trap environment from http://www.readyacoustics.com/

Wicked Ways

Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Money is power

New song from RRP and this time it is almost all real thing. Only a synth and one guitar are made with modellers. Drums are recorded with 002 rig in band practice room and rest at my home with my 001 rig.

Attention: NEW singer! I do NOT sing, sounds much better!!!!

I am pretty happy except drums. Some hints needed how I can improve drum mix.

Song is Raha on valtaa. (Money is power)

Be hard but constructive. Thanx.

Some DISCHORD stuff

So here is one that I have been working with for a little while now. Younger band, but some good ideas. Interesting stuff. Lots going on.

CRUSHED THE VOCALS through the distressor and got a pretty cool distorted sound.

SM-7B into the X73i into the Distressor.

TEEN DOWN

Enjoy, more to come later.

Re: Some DISCHORD stuff

Hi Doc! I gave it a listen - very interesting stuff - certainly not your run of the mill pop tunes. I really liked it though. My first thoughts on the music were that it kinda reminded me a bit of Mr Bungle.

**********************************

You know, I just realized that in all my time on the DUC, I've never posted any examples of my work, so here's a link to some stuff from a new band I'm producing, if anyone feels like checking them out. They're called "One Year Yesterday".

http://acapella.harmony-central.com/...readid=1232883

That's a link to a discussion about them over on my forum at Harmony-Central, and there's three songs up there. If anyone does give it a spin, feel free to comment either over there or over here, and thanks for listening.

Hi everyone... I remember way back when this thread first opened, and I thought, maybe someday I'll have something to put up there.. well.. the day has arrived.. This is my first completed project using my 001 that I've had for 6 or 7 years.. All the songs are available for free download, so check them out by clicking here..

If you don't want to listen to all of them, I'll give you a few that I think will be people's favorites:
I welcome all constructive criticism...

Doc: seems like "trend music" for the style from these kids man, but the recording work is sweet! I dig the drum work especially on this track.

Charlie,
ya I agree and I had some issues to deal with. Can't get into it here, but..... anyways it is done. The band name changed and is now "Dash Dash Dash." All songs are up on my player now on my site. First 4 are the new ones and final ones.

Ended up steming everything out to my Apogee, into the API for summing and then bck to the API. Really gave it a nice analog feel I think. Did not HAMMER the mix in the master but allowed it to breath some.

Turned out pretty cool for the ability.

hornedrum - I checked out Mellowship. Really dug it. Not really a big rap fan per se, but I get really jazzed when it's done musically (in the sound) and colorfully (in the words).
I downloaded the rest to check out later.
Very nice work!!

Re: Mac Mixes!!!!!!!!

Hi all,

I'd like some advice/criticism on this song:

Deny Me

Bear in mind these kids are young (~17), and it's their first time recording. Specifically, I'd like to know what you all think of the treatment of the lead vocal, and what I could do to get this thing sounding more "pro" (without hiring studio musicians for overdubs:)).

Weaknesses I'm aware of: snare is a bit lacking, hi-hat a bit overpowering, bass drum inconsistent; vocals in general are pitchy in spots, esp. noticeable when backup vocals are present; arrangement could be cropped; guitar feedback is questionable (first time using an EBow, though!)

Strengths, IMO: guitar tones! (too much reverb, maybe?), bass is punchy, vocal vamps at the end of the break with lots o' verb, delay.

Thanks big-time!

Naagzh 05-26-2006 04:00 AM

Re: Mac Mixes!!!!!!!!

Roger - cool stuff! No shortage of drum programming skills, that's for sure! I definitely like the drums, but my first impression was that they sounded thin. Maybe it's a limitation of the samples you were using, but it sounded like something was lacking in the low and midrange, even on the cymbals. The whole drumset sound needs more beef, IMHO, if you're even going for that realistic vibe. And did you go crazy with the snare wires?:)

The vocals were great! What was the main effect on the lead vocal? Avox Duo? How'd you have it panned? What filters did you use for the walkie-talkie effect?

And the guitar was sweet, too! Nice chord progressions, and the solos were memorable and melodic!

I'm not really diggin the studio fade-out, though. I do like them when something interesting happens just before the music is too quiet to hear, or when some of the instruments fade, and expose a buried melody.

rogerhavoc 05-26-2006 09:37 AM

Re: Mac Mixes!!!!!!!!

Hey Naagzh

Thanks for the constructive criticism. That was one of the best criticism i ever had here in this forum.
You're right, when i did that song i didn't have the "Resources" as far as the drums. I used reason for it. Went crazy with compression and ended up loosing lots of mid range. As for the Fade Out, It was to cover up some minor mistakes... i just got lazy and never fixed it! Now i have a reason too... Oh well... It's just a project for fun, and i can always re-do the drums. I did that in 2003. I have another tune with better drums samples (DKFH). LOW

It doesn't have vocals or solo ... One day i will finish it up too! I have beentoo busy lately.

Peace,

Roger

Hey everyone, first post here. Nice work on this thread! I've only checked the last few pages and it sounds great! Looks like I've some catching up to do.

Anyway, here's my submission to this thread; it's my first big Pro Tools track taking advantage of quite a few factory plug-ins. It's almost 100%; I have to edit some pops with the pencil but figured I'd float it out there to hear any constructive criticism.

Ignatius... good stuff.. my constructive criticism... the beginning classical guitar stuff seems a bit robotic... you might want to humanize it a bit.. especially on the pull off parts... also when the synth aahs come in they are a bit too loud IMO...

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

I'll say at first I was a little skeptical seeing the length of the song... but you kept it interesting throughout the length... very well done... it seemed a little sloppy in the middle (before the metal break, i think), but not very noticeable..

i personally don't like singing in that genre, but i think you pulled it off better than most... great work... the guitars are very in your face, and i like the ambient electric near the end...

You remind me of different singers on different parts of the song.
