Hi everyone, and merry christmas to you all !

Here's a little gift for those who like electronic experimentations : the excellent french netlabel SillonS have created a beautiful compilation of several artists, including myself (-i snor), named "esprit de corps", something like "body spirit", but it's also an untranslable pun. Go and check the catalogue *here* under "SIL005"... My contribution ("Manger !" which means "Eat !" in english) was made with a Kurzweil K2500, my voice, noises made by my hurting stomach after a veeery nice meal and, of course, PTLE 7 and a bit of Ableton Live. The whole thing is free by the way, I'm quite proud of the result and am eagerly waiting for your comments.

Thanks for this great thread, where I regularly hear superb tunes !

Hey Wicked Mama, everything on your site is wicked! I was trying to find the track Manger but on I-snor I couldn't briefly find it. But I heard some obscure sounds which appeal to me very much. Very off the road, is that all you? Please post a direct link to your song if you can, curious here to see what you're up to. Regards,

Voideco ,

Walther.

Yeah Walther, I guess it's just me !

You won't find Manger ! on my website, but on the SillonS compilation only, *here*... Well, I can send you a direct link anyway, this time on my ftp but only for a few hours : *this way*

But be sure you'll find many other weird and - imho - beautiful things from other people on the compilation, so check it out if you're interested in my music, ok ?

Thanks for listening.

I could have gone there at once, a bit impulsive question to ask for a direct link when the music is on the site anyway.

Going to check into it now.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Couldn't yet open the compilation, I have to disable my firewall and I don't know nada about this hardware fw of mine. But Manger sounded as heavy digestion . I like it! Completely different way to make music with these experimental sounds.

Ok I'll figure out a way to enable my IE to open the site with the compilation.

Good work Yann.

Of course this has something to do with someone who'd have eaten waaay too much. I tried to express that special feeling we all share (I guess) when we understand something is really going wrong inside.

And about the Firewall thing : yes I've also had this problem, I guess it has something to do with Internet Explorer but I don't know what precisely... You can still hear the compilation on the left-handed player, but the quality won't be as good as it should. Well, I hope you figure it out, and thanks for your comments Walther !

sorry its called an octopre by focusrite.

And the pres are really nothing special at all.
a recording like this is WAAY more about recording technique and the gear thats tracked than the gear tracked it.

Which is how it always should be IMO.

Wow... it's been almost 2 years since I've posted anything under this topic... I'm starting a studio and I'm going to try to start making some extra cash with it. I bought all my stuff a couple years ago mainly for hobby and personal use but I've been recording some stuff for some local people and they are all loving it. I'm trying to decide how much charge... a band I worked with this week had done a previous demo at a studio that charged $70 per hour and it turned out like junk... I'm getting some pretty fat tones and I just want to know what to charge...

GIVE ME YOUR UN-RESTRAINED OPION of everything regarding this music...

As for the music...

The songs "Cry" and "Don't Go" are by the same band wich is like a screamo/post hardcore kinda group... On the two songs, we spent 12 hours total.

"King Arthur..." is a song by a local Metalcore band so if that will make your ears bleed, don't listen to it... Just for reference, we spent 8 hours on this song...

December 14 clips are live which would be an example of the "$199" 3 song demo I'm promoting... We spent 30 minutes tracking and 2 hours mixing...

I'm wanting to charge $30 and hour and I've got people already knocking my door down for that so I just wanted to see if that's fair...

Sorry for the huge post... here is the link:

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Ok a pre-production here, or should I say premature? It's taking shape though.....

Grooving

PTLE 6.4 + Reason 2.5 + Rebirth 2.01 for bass. Hand-drummed rhythms looped in Dr Rex, guitartracks clean & distorted mic-ed with a Sennheiser M457 something. Some Trans-X Multiband comp on the master fader from a Waves bundle recently purchased. Also a Power Dither plugin set to 16 bit. Bounced to disk and then I opened the mix in Wavelab 2.02 for applying a puncher and a stereo-enhancer. All in the 48 KHz domain. Lastly downsampled to 44.1 KHz and voilà.

It's a bit repetitive but after a couple of days working on it I got me a more or less logical arrangement. There's a scream ripped from Pink Floyds' 'Careful with that axe, Eugene' on the cd Ummagumma. It's returning a bit too persitantly..... But any comments on the mix would be greatly appreciated. I really have the feeling I'm onto finding the right volume relations between the instruments plus the multiband compressor which is really awesome. Am I using it all sensibly or do you experienced fellows hear some flaws? My ears are whistling already after hours and hours of mixing so I really like to hear your opinion.

Walther.

these are some acoustic songs my friend did a while ago. i cant record a full band because i just dont have the equipment. all i have in an mboxand my powerbook. i need to get some more pre's cuz im dying to record drums and what not. i mixed a session that was a full band, but it was recorded TERRIBLY. the drums clipped constantly, the guitars were recorded through a pod with bad effects and to vocals were so dull. it was quite a project but eh. ill post that maybe.

also note that im a total beginner at this, but its something i love to do.

Hey Sis!

Davec...

Groovy tune... I like the post hardcore stuff... Anyway, I feel like I'm being raped by 16k on this track. There is a chance that it's the encoding but I doubt it.

I think that -3db in the range of 12k and 16k would do wonders for this track.

Also, unless the band objects, I'd double the electric even during the little lead line thing...

Maybe bring out some "snap" in the kick drum. The double bass parts aren't popping out enough. I recorded a band earlier this week who wanted way to much snap on their kick but a little more on this track wouldn't hurt...

Yea, that's my 2 cents...
Peace!

I wouldn't say the snare is too loud but the drums sound really distant... I don't really know what I'd do to fix it but I think it has something to do with the room or if your adding some verb maybe it doesn't fit... I'm feeling like the snare sounds like it was tracked in a different room... I can hear the guitars hard left and right but I don't really hear the pan knob anywhere else... go pan crazy on the bg vocals and the drums and it would really bring this track to life...

yea...

I've got to give you a hand at having fun and getting creative with your limited set up... I like weird stuff though... even with the weird factor the verb is a little untastefull in spots... and have your friend watch his language!

Cool track.

Protein, I like Sorry a lot. Yann, you are a genius.

Silverware still in boxes, but Mbox is up and running. A new version of an old song...now with keening and technobunny beats...a vocal flange extravaganza.

Much songwriting over the holidays, so stand by you lot.

Re: Mac Mixes!!!!!!!!

this project he had me do really wasnt ment to be too creative. just a basic acoustic cd. the verb was because he didnt want anything too ridiculous and with only the basic PT plugins, im not given much of a choice. i have done a lot of other stuff though, its just that the audio quality wasnt too good (i didnt record the instruments, i pulled them off an old 4 track) and i was a bit embarassed to post them.
thanks though. i love criticism when it comes to this. none of my friends are into this so its hard to get a good opinion
we did make another song with reason, but it has more bad language (his lyrics are all apparently raw emotion as he says) so be warned. its a pretty cool song though.
http://www.lightningmp3.com/live/98130_whore.mp3
i wanted to use vari-fi on the very last bit of delay, but i feel bad using that plugin just for that then having the demo expire.
i have a whole bunch of other weird stuff my cousion has done and i have done, but sadly, my lack of experience leaves me with this.

Cool, I've touched it up and reploaded. I was needing some De-essing. Thx for the comment on the kick. I'm bouncing the track again and will repost. Try it now. I'm trying to compensate for the room dynamics I'm in. Still haven't quite nailed it. This last version should be better. Thx again for the feedback!

Nice tune by the way, even if I like the guitar and its effects better than the rythm. Walther, you have something very interesting here, but imo you should probably wait for some days to let your ears calm down and finish the job : the structure is still a bit confusing and maybe repetitive... but you're close to it !
