Hey all,

The other day I posted a really silly music clip that I thought might be amusing. Afterward, I got pretty ragged with a person for critiquing it. It was a stupid thing to do and it brought the tone down here.

I am really sorry about that and I understand that it did nothing to help improve this thread. In fact, it made it worse for a little while. I rescinded my posts regarding it because they did nothing to make a point and they were not positive.

I am sorry for all that and will not lay into someone here, publicly for criticizing what I post ever again. EVERYONE is entitled to an opinion. If I disagree, I will do so with respect and understanding and will try to let others help me, even when I (naively) think I don't need it.

This is a great forum. One that has helped me immensely and I appreciate all of you and what you bring to it.

Thanks for listening.

Hey, if you get a chance, please check out another "finished" song I posted a page or so back and let me know what you think. It may not be your style, but I think it sounds alright.

Re: Mac Mixes!!!!!!!!

Hi Everyone. This thread is great...I've been a long time reader / learner from these posts. I recorded something well over a year ago that I'd like to get some feedback on. There are 3 songs...I guess they'd fall into the hard rock genre. Unfortunately no vocals were ever recorded on them. It's been quite some time since I've let people hear these and also quite some time since I've tried to track anything besides just ideas here and there. This was done on a DIGI 002R, Octopre, 3 SM57's, 2 Rode NT1-A's & 1 AKG D112...

The most common feedback from friends was that the kick drum gets lost...it definitely does, but I haven't tried to remedy that yet. Anyway, here's the link and I'd love to hear from you guys. Also, any other equipment / gear questions I'd be glad to answer. Please feel free to download them and play them through something other than the tiny comp speak(s):) Thanks.

I KNOW - Scotts Original - non mastered

Scott here is the link to the mastered MP3. I am sending you the wave file through YOU SEND IT.

Turned out pretty nice, and I think that you will hear the diff.

I KNOW - Mastered TBR Studio Version

Chris,
This sounds great. Nice changes. Very Hot (and I dont mean that in a Paris Hilton way). Really sounds good though man. Thanks again,

I didnt get the Session though. Would you mind sending it my way so I can check out the plug settings?

Great talking to you last night and hope to make it up there on the 21st.

Take Care,
Scott

Bigubbaj is ROTFLOL.

Are you kidding? I have not yet seen a ME who gives the session out, they would run themselves out of business!.

Seriously, on mastering that is not so common, as lots of outboard gear is usually involved. Doc must've used something analog I would bet.

Anyhow...just made me laugh a bit...dont take it wrong.

Anyone else think Im wrong?

Well, I hate to bust your bubble here, but I was told the session was being sent to me.
No harm,

I also am very aware that most ME would not send out this type of request, however, this is not your typical scenario.

Sorry for the confusion and glad I could offer a good "laugh".

Hi. This is an elegy I wrote for one of my students who tragically and incomprehensibly took her own life. I say wrote, but it just kind of fell out. It's actually a poem set to music.

It's been really important to me to get it to sound as 'right' as possible, and I've taken a lot of time with the mix to make it the best I ca make it. If there's anything that could make it better still, I'd really like to hear your thoughts.

For the record, the guitar was mic'ed with an NTK and an NT5 into mic pres on a Mindprint DI-Port feeding the SPDIF inputs of an AMIII. The strings were done in Reason.

It's here: http://www.mp3unsigned.com/showmp3.a...=14534&aid=841
and here the song at the top here: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/0/th...odingmusic.htm

Alright Justin (BubbaJ) and Scott (Sheritan) mind your tongues!

I will send you the session as it is not a huge deal. Honestly it was fairly simple. The only thing that you will not get is the ADAT (Analog send) that I used to my outboard EQ. Other than that, once you get the Waves bundle installed you will be able to look at it better. All you will need to do is add a Linear MB EQ and tweek it. That will give you some things to look at on your own.

No big deal. This was a nice thing that I was trying to help out.

Justin I know I can bust your balls... Scott, pay now attention to him jokes. He is a great guy... Besides if he keeps harrassing ya, I will give you his number as I talk to him all the time.

A Song i`ve recorded with a lady a few months ago.
we started to record the song in february, and ended april.

All mixed on a G4 dp1,25mhz, Digi 002r - PT 6.4
Mixed on Alesis mkII monitors.

Shure mics on drums, Bass direct to a Behringer DI and into the box.
Vox amp for guitar. Røde condenser mic for vocals.

Mastered in wavelab, using a 3bandcompressor.

Please tellme what you think of the vocals..
first time i have recorded somebody with a good voice. ( been hardcore screaming voices before)
i know the S` are a bit sharp..
but i`m interesting if its bothers you the way she pronounces stuff in english.
She`s from norway and is just 16 years old...

I like the Song very much.
cant believe she´s 16... sounds like 25, great voice!
her english seems OK to me, but I am german, so...
I also dig the Vocal effect in the first verse, works out cool.
compliments!

Cheers, Andi

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Powerjoe,

HAted it! No seriously it was cool.....

Nice Dreams...

Very old school WANKER ROCK. Sounds like Malmstein meets Testament. Great guitar playing. Have not heard a REVERB like that on drums and well everything since 1990 though. Great sound though. You tracked that? on a 002?

How much of the guitars are looped? Pretty tight player if not.... I would raise the guitars around 1:30 with that higher harmony stuff. Sounds like a Marshall, and some other older head, or PREAMP? Maybe a Rocktron? Good tones for the style though. Again, have nt heard that tone since 1990. TONS of VERB!

Great drum tom sound. Really ROCK! oriented.... These guys look like this????

OLE' SCHOOl

They have that testament sound for sure. Especially on the screams and the sweep guitar. Very Scolnick style... Not heard at all these days. As an ole' school wanker myself I really dig it.

Nice job.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Thanks Doc.

This was not tracked on a 002. But it was brought into Pro Tools, seperated and then mixed on an SSL at Enterprise in LA. It was originally recorded elsewhere. Do you remember the "old" Record Plant in NY? It's a disco now I believe. They moved the Original Record Plant down the block. This was tracked in the old studio B on 48th and 8th. It was mixed by someone you've heard of.

This and some other material are slated for re-release and I am looking for indpendant thinkers and listeners like you to comment on it. It will be re-done on a larger PT system and I am hoping to get it right this time. This recording lacks some teeth, but that is how it came out with the mix guy.

By the way, there is no "sweeping" on that tune and the guitar parts are not looped. That is straight playing to ol' Ampex via Mesa Boogie Mark IV, '57 and old school compressor.

Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate it. If you have any more, I would love to hear what you'd do different.

Wanker? That's kinda harsh don't you think?

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

All,
I tracked an old clinet tonight with his band this time. This is a new project that I am starting that should last for a few weeks. 12 songs are planned. Tonight I think that I got the best drums I have ever tracked. Had a different approach and consulted deeply with Mr. Cavell on some things. I think that they worked nicely. Also took a different approach to levels going in, and so far all is well. This is a bounce of the session with only the L2 on the track. There are no Eq's at all. The vocals and guitar are rough, and SCRATCH. The drums were the focus tonight.

Chain for them were

KICK - Audix D6 - Vintech X73i - Apogee Rosetta (best kick I have ever gotten)
Snare - SM-57 - Vintech X73i - 1176 - Apogee Rosetta
Tom 1 - Digipre - Rosetta
Tom 2 - Digipre - Rosetta
Tom 3 - Digipre - Rosetta
Floor - Digipre - Rosetta
Overheads - (ORTF) - Digipre - Rosetta
Hi-hat - SM-7B - Trident - 002 converters. (not really used a hat mic before, but liked it)

Guitar - Direct to 1272
Vocals - APEX 435 - 1272 - 1176 - 002 converters. (That is the sheer sound of the 435 if you wanted to know. and that is SCRATCH!

REVERB - TRUEverb
Delay - 2 tap (subtle)

Here ya go:

Personally, I wouldn't even pay attention or converse with either Bubba or Doc. Neither one of them will provide you with an ounce of good insight. Bubba still reliving his days as drum major and the only time I get anything worthwhile from Doc is if you call him at 2 in the morning. I'll send ya his number.

There is a guy on the board named STREETS that provide excellent input. Hunt him down!!

Just messing with ya (Be sure to read Doc's follow up to this ). Good to see you posting stuff up. Did you ever do anything more with the tune we talked about?

Doc -

Nice rough cut.

Drums raw sound are good. I actually LOVE your guitar sound. Kind of minimalist for you but it works.

You need more reverb on the whole thing brother...your ceilings are a bit low to give the OH's enough room to blossom. (mine are too! )

I know its really rough and you get soooo excited to post all this for us. Thanks!

Good start!

Hey again Doc,

The link worked for me this time. Sounds like an awesome start. The fundamental tones are really good, and should be great to mix!! The kick is nice and solid, has that D6 sound for sure. Snare is great. The vocals sound really good, way to go 435!! Should be a fun project for you when it gets rolling.
