Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

No the 3000 will be fine for acoustics. Better than the others. I just thought that was what I was hearing as far as mics are concerned. I always double mic acoustics. The last song I posted actually had 4 mics on the guitar. Made them play it twice and panned all the tracks (8 total) to the left and right respectively.

The BF76 is a great plugin to use and learn - so YES learn it. better and worse... all how you use it.

HATE THE PODs so no comment there.... :-)

The benefit about Busses is that you can have multiple tracks send to the BUSS and use that effect to different degrees. I think that you are misunderstanding how to send to it? maybe not, but....

1. Create a STEREO AUX track and put a reverb on it.

2. Make that INPUT on that AUX track be BUS 1/2

3. Take your guitar track (say solo guitar) and send it with a BUS, not the TRACK OUTPUT to BUS 1/2. ( A separate Fader should come up for control.

4. Raise the initial AUX track (reverb) to 0bd. Control click the Solo button to SOLO Safe the track. That way it is now always on when you solo tracks. This is good because if you are listening you want to hear all the effects on the track. Try it unsafed and you will see what I
mean.

5. Now take the BUS (send) level and start to raise it... You will hear the reverb appliying itself to just the guitar part.

6. Continue to do this with all the tracks that you think need that verb and adjust the levels to taste.

That is using an effect on a BUS and applying several tracks to the same effect. Why is this good....? REVERBS TAKE UP HUGE AMOUNTS OF CPU POWER.....

Better ways to manage your mixes and CPU power.

Usually the FX that I know will be across the board are added ina BUS. You have 16, so use them wisely... I DO NOT make Compressors go to a BUS, but it can be done. I tend to have a long tailed reverb, a short reverb, a 2 tap delay and some other secrets taht I put into the mix. A lot of my verbs are sent out to hardware verbs (Lexicon PCM-90 and Eventide H-3000) but I still use a couple custom settings that I made in TrueVerb. All depends on the mix.

Hope this helps?

Paul Curtiz and I wrote this song a while back, and I just remixed it. Paul wrote the lyrics/melody and sang the vocals, and I did the music. Thanks for listening...

hey people, here is some of my work I've done in the last week... and my studio isn't even setup all the way yet.

This is the bands myspace.com page

I'd say that you have a good start, but it is really, really hot... Not sure if that is intentional, but it sounds too hot and is distorting.

Not bad though.

Understand... I was not riping on it, just stating some stuff. Not trying to upset. The song was pretty cool though. I am working with a band like that tonight actually. Just finished up a project and am pressing to the next. This month it seems that I have a lot like that.

IntelDoc,

Well, I was at it again last night. The whole bus thing was a bit confusing at first, but so worth it to figure out. I actually really enjoyed working with the reverb and delay that way. Thanks again for your great advice.

I re-recorded the guitars (again) and kept them as 2 distinct tracks - it really does open up the sound! I have tried to settle the vocal back into the track and I'm hoping that it sits in there pretty well now. I also tried to EQ the drums a bit more to cut the highs back.

If you get a chance...

Thanks again - you've made a HUGE difference!!!

Chas,
That was great...and that old Gretsch sounds fantastic. When I was a kid, I wanted a Gretsch Country Gentleman so bad I could taste it. It felt like I was in a Cadillac when I played that thing. Great job on the song...

Cavet,
Definitely a HUGE improvement! Congrats there. I wish that My Space would let you upload a higher sample rated song. Any way that you can e-mail me a link or a file of a MP3 at ripped at 320? The guitars sound so much better though. I would like to hear it at a freq higher than 96 though. The vocals sit much better and are not so harsh on the ears. I guess you compressed it a tad more eh? The new guitar tracks do spread the mix much better. I would actually pan the electrics a tad more. Still sitting a little too centered for my taste, either that or pick a side and put them there at about 30%. The bass sits nice too.

Good job man, and glad I could help.... Bussing is pretty cool when you figure it all out.

sturdy guitarwork in Tragedy Remastered. The singing reminds me a bit of the Cure. Turns a bit into doom at moments. Nice work, that's said by somebody who doesn't like this style so much actually. Yet I really dig this tune.

Some piece I made with PT 6.4 & Reason 2.5:

Flashes Recorded a Washburn guitar through a Rat distortion straight into the 001 and recorded some loops. Two of which I edited in the NN19 digital sampler. Tried to make a stuttering effect in it. It's only a concept at the moment, it's got some meat but still needs a lot of work.

This one's a more worked out song. Glorified clicktrack though, 92 % finished I'd say.

In the Silence Transposed a singing wineglass four octaves down and used it for bass. Used the same sample a lot higher here as well. Guitar also straight into the 001, this is a drawback, I still wanna record the guitar through an amp. Vocals need some autotune here.

Any comments welcome,

Walther

Cavet Your Eruptor,
Finally got to listen (I couldn't get it to play for me 2 other times earlier for whatever reason)...the song itself is great, IMO...nice chord changes, good arrangement, tempo, and melody.
Sounds like Doc is advising you well on the production itself, so I'll leave that to him. But, good job on the writing, and best of luck with it.

Gene,
That is crazy! I just picked up Reason 3 so I will have to check that a tad closer. Sounds great...

Here is are the FINALS from the last project I just worked on. Guys were cool. I posted the Tapping song earlier, but this is the final version. They were happy with it, and sorry Chris, they did not fall for the trippy middle part. No worries, they are happy and that is what matters in this business I guess. The second song is a new one. A tad too slow for my tastes and a tad under developed, but they are planning on doing it again when they come back for the 6 song EP and hopefully we can build from there. Still sounds good I think, but lacks something. Pretty rough, but works in a way.

Enjoy,

whole bunch of great stuff here.

Caveat/Doc, that was a very cool thread to follow. I followed the original link, so I'm guessing I heard it after all the fixes had been implemented.
Nice song and performance.

Whoever did the song "mammoth," very nice job, it was a bit loud, and in my opinion could have had more dynamics, but it was a very clear, pro sounding mix.

Voideco, very nice work.

And I'm with Roy, skyking, the guitar sound fantastic. That picture had me salivating. I liked the song and the playing, and it was a very good sounding mix.

Nice work all,

bp

Scottdog....

Did not get involved at all. They really had it set and wanted it to stay that way. I think that I inputted a few things, but nothing serious. They are coming back for a 6 song EP in a few months so that will be time to consult more. Cool group though.

Thanks for listening at least,

Now for something NEW

All,
Alright this is by far the heaviest stuff that I have been consumed with. This is still a rough mix, but we managed o get some edting in tonight and the drummer wanted to hear the mix. The songs were all done in segments to a click and later (tonight) we put them all together. I feel the guitars are a tad too loud, and the drums need to come up. The vocalist, well I do not know what he is saying since it this is a SCREAMER band. Put a E609 on him, ran him to the 1272, 1176 and then Pro Tools. Yep, you read it right.. E609..... A better mic would not have worked, plus not having that into a 103 or the RODE... I have not received my SM7 yet, so that would have worked...

The guitars sound huge, the playing.... well... :-) Thay are good friends and we are having fun making this CD. Should have about 5 more later on...

Enjoy,

ITL - THE LAST NOTE

I have been busy, and this is definitely a change from the norm..

Added NOTES:

1. Guitars were played through a Les Paul Standard into a Boogie Dual Rec, 1985 Marshall JCM800 and a Fender Prosonic into the Bogner Ubershcall cabinet. Mic'd with a SM-57 and Senn 421 into the 1272 or the X73i depending on the track

2. Drums were all Gretsch. 012, D6, 421's and a RODE NTK for the room. Into Varios pre's

3. Vocals - Senn E609 into the 1272, 1176 Pro Tools.

4. Bass - RBI into 1176 - Pro Tools

All inputs ran into the Apogee Rosetta 800. Tracked at 44/24 this time around.

Hey Bp thanks. Guess I made some piece that I can call a valid production to some extend with In the Silence.

Yeah there's some good stuff going around recently. I should take more time to use this thread for exchanging thoughts/ideas 'bout how we work and so but I hardly visit my family. PT and guitarplaying keep me busy for days and then I take a walk outside and see some friends in our local pub. Breathing some company after which I pick up some housekeeping and such routines. Then I return to PT and the guitar and breed on some song or website programming. Totally neglecting any social routine or steadiness, let alone on the web.

So, lurking around by times and incidentally posting a tune of mine here. Thanks for letting me drop my little egg here, a toast to the spirit of creativity going around here.

A rough idea that I might take forward.

I was messing round a good while ago now with some little beats, not guitars as usual and played a few things by on the keyboard. I got a very simple rhythm going but I quite like it.

Ive never written anything in this style before so go easy on me Just kidding,

Theres a little guitar in there. Terrible singing by myself but lets just go with 'Demo' singing

Its also missing a couple of lead vocal parts but nevermind.

Any input on this tune?

Another NEW one - Acoustic stuff

All,
As you can see the studio has been busy and is technically booked until the end of May. That is a good thing. Here is one that we did tonight. This was my first real paying customer 2 years ago. He was the guy who did the song Train Wreck. This is a new one and we will have about 3 more soon. This was entirely done tonight in about 3.5 hours. The coolest part is that we were able to use a thunderstorm that I recorded about one and a half years ago. Just put the RODE NTK up and hit record and let it sit there for about 2 hours. Found some parts that I liked and added it to the song. Fit the title perfectly and them we added the automation in parts that fit.

The guitar is a Seagull Signature series. Used my standard mic setup for this:

012 - 12th fret - DigiPRE
APEX 435 - 14th fret - Vintech X73i - first time for this
TLM-103 - sound hole - 1272 - 1176
435 - above shoulder - X73i

Vocals - RODE NTK - X73i - 1176

All into the Rosetta 800 at 48/24 and VERY, VERY Limited EQ's. Used 2 total. Compression and thats about it. Reverb was Trueverb layered with the Lexicon PCM-90.

I really enjoy working with Joel. Usually dishes out some good ideas and can work well in the studio. He hits or misses at things, but generally does well.

I think that these are my best guitar sounds to date????

Enjoyed this one a lot!

RAIN - JOEL HERRINGTON

Enjoy,

- Doc

GREAT WORK! I'm glad you are finally putting all those preamps and that nice room to work for you!!
Guitars are awesome!! The Rode really adds some noticable warmth to his voice, which is awesome and up front. I really like that mic.

Nice thunderstorm!
