Thanks for listening (res and deception)...what do you mean by "cold" though? Lyrically, musically or production-wise?

bp,
I'm only getting about a verse of the new song on download (sounds good though)...just about 686kb of it, or around there. Is it set up that way?

Guit4Brians,
I really like Ambience...I tried it while creating new samples today for something, and it's very cool...so thanks very much.

I'm glad you like it. Did you find it to be cpu intensive? I am sure your computer is faster than mine, I have a 900mhz pent with 512mb of sdram. Some of the new apps (BFD, for ex.) require at least a gighertz so that's my issue.

Guit4Brains, actually now I listen to Deception again, I don't find it cold anymore.
I think it's when I listened Res first, then the opening of Deception sounded a bit brittle to me.
But I don't get that impression now.
Great production!

Awesome MERMAID song Roy... You have my respect...

I have something moody that I’ve been working on too: The Dark Side of The Sun
I will catch up with everybody here. I got so busy on the last 4 months… I know I’m in debt with you guys. If you all get some free time to check my tune above.

PEACE

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Guit4Brains,
I wasn't checking CPU while I was using Ambience, but with several other plugs going, there was no problem at all. As the production gets bigger, we'll see, but so far so good. My CPU is 1.4ghz but there have been times when that wasn't enough...I'm amazed that I used to get so much out of my first pc, at only 700mhz...
thanks again...-Roy

I dig it roger... Very ole school sound style. Like the distance in the guitars. Very gloomy tune! Hence the name I guess.

Since I don't usually include my client's work in this thread, and I haven't recorded any of my own stuff in MANY months, I haven't thrown anything into the ring in quite a while.

Here's some glorified rough mixes (no vocals yet) of a few songs new songs. Just gettin' excited and had to share

If you get a chance click on the link below, give em' a spin and let me know what you think!

http://www.trixiestudios.homestead.com/misc.html

1. All Of My Days - upbeat jangly pop rock
2. A Psalm Of David - atmospheric, spooky, Lindsay Buckingham-ish thing
3. I Can't Thank You Enough - big fat power ballad

Well done, Rogerio...I like the way you mixed it with the percussion dry and present...the piano sounds great, and the subtle guitars are cool. Good job, as usual...

Sorry for a double post, but this was my first LEGIT (All DOC's SONG) and I had a blast making it. Figured it would sit here pretty well. This is a SHORT song.... Hence the title...

Done for the "make your Porn Song" Contest on another thread: DOCS FUN CONTEST

Played all parts on this bad boy. Drums done in Reason. Used the B4 (wrapped) in the background. Guitar was with E609 and SM57 intot he Vintech 1272 and a wha. Playing through a Fender Prosonic head. Bass was through SansAmp RBI. Lok the funk lick!

Enjoy it, and get in on the fun at the CONTEST above.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Yogev,
Much easier! Thanks! The song sounds great! A little depressing, but the sound quality is very nice. The guitars at the beginning when they come in sound just a tad out of tune. Could be the chorused effect, but nice spread on them.

Care to share what you used, mic wise, preamps, what wass sequenced and what is played? I assume the guitar parts are live and the drums? You played to a click track to correct. Sounds very on time.

Good job, DETAILS?

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

thanks alot
all instrumant are life
i mean drums - bass - guitars - percashion -keyboard
about the "out of tune " i know "chorused effect" maybe to much //??
about the drums setup -
snare is the only one that goes to an outboard preamp {platinum penata focusrite } with sm57 mic
all other channels to behringer mx3282 console {mony problem}
protools 5.3.1 001 hardware
the drums played to a click
but you know lots of edit to make it sound on time and nutoral
what do you think about the singer //?
and the edit //?
and the vocal sound //?
{platinum - c3000 akg } { mony problem }
its never had mastering im still waiting to finish all albume

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Singer was nicce. Very good separation in the mix. Her vocals sit nice too. Right where they should. The verb is nice. Maybe a tad too much, but I know what you were going for. The faint guitars were cool when they were still soloing. Like that effect.

Cool that all instruments were tracked. Sound good. Is it a home setup? The room sounds good if so!

Hey Roy,

I try to not over using reverb. I love the sounds of the instruments as they are and sometimes they don't need no FX... But i am still learning with you guys.

Thank you guys for taking the time to listening,

Hi Yogev.
Even though not my favourite musik kind, very good sound ideed.
Great work!

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Roger, I like the mood.
The percs sound really great, how did you do that? Is it tracked or sequenced ? (no offense if the answer is stupid, but it's not obvious to me!)
I was just surprised when the guits came in, they are really contrasting with the rest I would say.

Very good.

JonM 06-21-2004 07:34 AM

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

I've been away a while (busy tracking) and all these new tracks!

Roger - I really like Dark Side of the Sun. OK, as Doc says gloomy, but it's a nice piece. Love those guitar sounds. And it does have mood.

Groovilator - Into You. Top stuff. All those time sig changes would confuse the hell out of me. And I've no idea who Jeff Buckley is (sorry), but that is one great vocal.

Psalm of David. Love the way this builds, and the subtle overdriven guitar parts were cool. Would love to hear the completed version of this. Wonder what the lyrics are like...

Doc - mad track. CAn see you had fun with this. Where did that voice sample come from, your own private collection of VHS tapes????

Jon
PS Doc- will get round to mailing that thing to you soon. Sorry for the delay, and don't worry your end.

Very rough mix, but then even my proper mixes are rough.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

JonM, very nice piece. I like it alot. The cymbal stab at the beginning seemed really out of place, though, and actually made me jump.

yogev-sam, that's good work. Sounds great. I'm in agreement about the out-of-tune guitar, though. It sounds like it might be in tune with itself, but not with the piano. Altogether, great work, and that girl can sing!

rogerio, definitely a departure from your usual style, but as always, very impressed.

My newest stuff is in DOC's Contest thread . First piece done in my new space.

What mics did you use and what placement ?

Awww...you've gone and spoiled it now. Nobody else is going to jump are they? I kind of had a big gong in mind there, but I don't have one, or even a sample of one. It probably was overused though. Thanks for listening.

Loving this porn track. You have the idiom of it down to a tee - strong evidence of a misspent youth.

Re: Mac Mixes!!!!!!!!

Gene,

Hey I used my trusty pair of AT3031s about 2 meters in front of the quartet, in ORTF right in the middle. I added an MXL2001 about a foot away from the guitarist (nylon string) for more guitar (he had an amp, too...).

The viola sounds like it could have used a spot mic on it too...I guess everything could have but it was live and we didn't want to crowd the stage with mics...it was done in a very reverberated church downtown toronto.

Could you possibly just email me your new song? I have to set up a separate soundcard to play from MP3unsigned (which I will, but an email/MP3 would be great)...I'de really like to hear it.

Thanks, Roy. I'm kind of flattered.

I'm at work now, so I will email it when I get home. Alternatively, if you decide you don't want to clog up your inbox with the musical meanderings of this madman, you can find it at my Soundclick page .

It's a rough mix that needs a bit of work, so don't expect too much!

I've no idea how you make a guitar make those noises, but I'm really enjoying 'Moonbeam Seduction'. Even on my crappy computer speakers here at work, there so much good stuff going on on so many different strat in the mix it's awesome. I feel very, very humble.

funkgypsy

This is certainly funky. Wish there was a bit more of it! Interesting production. The vocal is so low in the mix, yet it seems to kind of work, even if I can't make out a word you're singing. Can't you post the whole track? Please!!!??

Voideco 06-23-2004 05:09 AM

Re: Instrumental Song

Hi all. Catching up with the latest tunes posted here. Missed really a lot of pages so I've got some work to do. Also haven't been doing much with my pc lately, 'till I started making the Porn Funk for the Porn Vibe Contest. Still on PT 5.3.1, I have been using Cubase with Reason and Rebirth rewired for the porn funk as I do most of the time when toying along.

Stanonbass your Snooze song is an awesome composition. There's obviously a whole lot of musical theory behind it. The mix may be a bit refined perhaps to put the finishing touch, for a rough mix however there's a lot of space in it.

Yogevsam that's some wonderful music. The women sings beautiful and the whole compositions sound very, what's the word?, meaningful. Like filosophical, but that's not the word I'm looking for (I'm dutch). Deep! Beautiful.

JonM, good chord progression. Think the drums may be played with a bit more power (I'd say 'conviction'). Not completely my style, also a bit too slow but I really dig the acoustic guitar. All in all a bit into the direction of Leonard Cohen imo. But I think there could happen a bit more in the song. Listening to The Foreboding, acoustic solo sets in, bit too loud but well played.

Funkygypsy I'm not into folk at all but this little piece made me feel very cheerful. I feel some restrained drive behind the playing of the banjo (or is it a ukelele?), some inhelt power. Goes for the singing also, very pushing. I really dig the tune, please send in the whole song.

See you folks later ,

Walther

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Jon,
I really like the song, and your style of writing...as in the first song('Counting the Beats'), the acoustic guitars are played very well and set a very cool mood. I would tighten up the percussion and maybe pull the guit solo back some...but I know this a ruff for now, so...I like it very much...
