<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">hey roy, thanks for listening. you know, i do listen to (and enjoy) your song posts, even though i dont usually comment.

that "full acoustic" is actually 5 layered tracks. the left side was one take recorded with 2 mics. the right side was done the same way. there is an additional center guitar track as well. i am not playing or singing on this (me sing, thats a laugh!), i just engineered. we added bass yesterday and electric gtr will follow. we are going for that "amanda" feel from bostons third album.

here is a REAL ROUGH new mix from my band, its another love song. . . thanks again brian for hosting the songs on your server!

So you sampled a bunch of notes or did you get them somewhere? Do you have samples for down picks and up picks. What about HO's, Slides and trills? It would be interesting for me to try that sometime. Guess you have been getting into the sampling buisness in a big way lately. Have you figured out how to program your keyboard to play the samples?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Swap,
If you feel like it you can check out how these Strat and Mandolin sample sessions appear. I call these 'AESOP' sessions, and they're excellent for creating various sample types. At any bpm, you can solo or mute any note, and nudge anything anywhere. These screenprints are from 24 track sessions, but now they're 32. Each track started out as a long, sustaining clean note, which I recorded myself.

and you can hear both sample types (mandolin and Strat) here...

Nippamuk,

I'm recording my band with the 001, we only have a few hours a week so this is a slow progressing project. Nothing ready yet for listening.

I participated in the Roy & Peter shootout where we had to write and record a song around BigRedButton's vocal track.
Burn Down

You can also listen to a song my band recorded a few years ago in a 'real' studio.<a href="http://www.pkoolhaas.demon.nl/spiders.mp3" target="_blank">
Spiders</a>
I'm on bass.

Not exactly my latest stuff...

Roy, thanks for the AESOP views.
Interesting but I'm not sure I understand it yet.
Are you saying that you play a single note and then pitch shift it to get the others?
Anyway it sounds pretty. Not much like a real mandolin but more like a new kind of instrument.
Very creative.

Well I am going to take a week off from the day job so maybe I can play a little more. However sometimes a vacation can end up being more work than play, if you know what I mean.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Hi Pieter, I listened to "Spiders". What a great song- the lead vox reminded me of Jethro Tull. Is that you? Was that a violin in there? The song builds nicely. Do you guys always sing in English? I'd love to hear something in Dutch or Flemish.
I see you live in Amsterdam. One of my favourite recollections of Amsterdam was of myself and about 5 other guys staggering out of the Heineken Brewery after a Tour through the facilities, and trying to find a good place to relieve ourselves of all that beer we'd just drunk, and getting kicked out of restaurants all the way back to the Dam Rak (spelling?), because they wouldn't let us use their toilets. I also remember all the goings-on in the Vondelpark. I slept many a night there.
Say, Pieter, how did you get my song to play for you? I guess I should get my own website one day; the mp3.com thing is fine for now, but...

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

David/Nippamuk

Thank you for your kind words sir. No, I'm not blessed with a good singing voice, I play the bass. Yes there is violin in there, unfortunately Vincent the violin player left the band but we still can call for him if we need a fiddler.
My band songs are in English but I am thinking of doing an other project in Dutch.
Sorry to hear that my fellow Dutchmen didn't show much hospitality to your gang. Your spelling is almost right it's Damrak. When was it that you had been here?

I think you did something wrong with linking to the mp3.com site, I was able to get there thru your "Im on Board Jack link. If you copy/paste this - http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/578/david_pumple.html - here in the URL field it should work.

Pieter

Byteme/JW,
Your song pounced on me from the getgo... really nice song and production. I do agree with Soundsurfr that it seems a touch light on the low end (aren't we picky?... ), but yeah...good vocals, guitars, and all else. Thanks for the listen.......~Roy

Gene Backlin,
I can't find your song now, Gene... if you would, just tell me which one it is in your 'Gallery' section...I would like to hear it.

Hey Swap,
I didn't mean to lay all that stuff on you at once( )...I tend to over-expound sometimes about things that fascinate me. But yes, I do use the Pitch Shift sometimes to up or down a note by a half-step. This allows a complete chromatic scale within that little range of notes.
But I'll shut up about it now, and go back to just doing it.
thanks, Roy

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Hi Pieter, I know this is OT for this thread, but Amsterdam and Holland were the first places I visited as a young (20yrs old) traveller; as such they still loom large in my memory. I well remember landing at the Amsterdam airport from Montreal ( September, 1973) and thinking, "Well, here I am in Europe. What the heck am I going to do now?" I really had no agenda at all. But I met another Canuck soon after, and after a few days in Amsterdam, we went to The Hague to try out for a hockey team. We stayed in a Pension in Schevingen (sp?). I didn't make the team, so headed thru Groningin and onwards to Germany. I eventually ended up in India, and came back home a changed person. The Dutch people were always very kind and polite to me ( they still like Canadians since WW2). After I came back from my rambles in Asia, I returned to Amsterdam to fly home. Because I was on stand-by, I had to wait 3 days at the airport before I finally got a flight home. This would have driven anybdy else nutty, but after 8 months in places like Afghanistan, India, and Nepal, it was a piece of cake.
Sorry to ramble, but I just get all giddy when I think back on those days.
OH YEAH, ISN'T THAT ROY HOWELL A GREAT GUY? (just trying to show the host of this thread a bit of respect).

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Roy, thanks for the waaaaay-too-kind review of my song. Actually, considering my mother used to sing semi-professionally, I had a hard time getting her to get into the spirit of the song. I had to practically put vice-grips on her fingers to get her to sing at all. Originally I was going to have all my friends and family sing the chorus part, but, well you know how it goes. Maybe one day...
Say, Roy, how do you go about marketing your own stuff? Do you sell CDs? Your songs would obviously be copy-righted. I know nothing about this end of things; I've only recently even considered trying to sell my music. Just wondering...
The amount of talent floating around here is truly mind-boggling.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Hi sir Nippumuk,
You really should gather some more songs and do a Nippumuk CD. I played 'Perception' for Linda, and she loved it... Getting your CD package together is not that difficult, but getting it out there and creating an awareness is part of it too. So I would just plan it out...(as I know you would). Anyway, regardless, just keep writing those songs...

p.s. Nippamuk, I'm adding this part after seeing that I didn't answer your question. I had written everything I'm involved in except 'marketing my own stuff', and deleted it because it sounded boastful to me. So anyway, I have at least 2 new CD projects in mind for this year, one an instrumental CD, and the other... well, we'll see.

Great clarity, man (listening now)... sheesh, are you using anything special to spread this out? Sounds like some of it is about to go around behind me (hehe)... very cool sounds, and percussion, as usual. Did you use a filter to do the 'warping', or how?
Very cool, Brian...always a pleasure.

Took a listen myself DaB, I heard you went electronic, so had to give it a listen naturally, right?

Nice drum sounds... Are they direct off a unit? or modified....or?

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Hi Roy, thanks for your reply. I have 8 songs that I just burn onto CDs and either give away or sell very cheaply. I'm hoping to add another couple of songs soon for a grand total of ten, or about 45-50 minutes of play. After that, I'll see about maybe going for a production run. Which brings up the next question: how many minutes of music do you guys usually put on your CDs? I find that if the CD is too long, I don't hear the end too often. I guess that's why they invented "shuffle mode".
And Roy I did read your first post, you conceited, self-centered braggart.

Are you talking to me, badperson? I am (choose one):
a) a world-famous songwriter/recording artist/engineer/producer operating a huge facility employing dozens of highly-trained specialists, with contacts world-wide including hot-lines to other famous people including Sir George Martin, Roger Nichol, Brian Wilson, Daryl Hannah, etc etc etc, or

b) just some middle-aged semi-serious minamally talented underachieving dork with an 8' by 12' music room out in the garage and no time to use it.

And who, if I may ask, are you?
