That guitar sounds HOT! Best acoustic guitar sound I've heard here on the DUC by a long way. Awesome stuff. Vox sound great too.
I'm looking forward to hearing the finished product.

Hey Doc,

fantastic sound; the guitars were great, they had that punch and vibrancy of a real pro studio, but I'm wondering if they could have used a little more low end? Is that something you were going for?

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

BP,
He wanted them bright, but there are going to be more added and a bass track too. That will help thicken it up some. I did the mastering pretty quickly too. Probably will add more back in. Drums will be real too... The reason track was merely a click track for him. I was surprised that he played it so well.

Thanks

OK,
This is yet another song by a different client. Old, and first real paying client actually. He was blown away with the sound change! Pretty fired up. The drum track is NOT staying. It was used as a click in REASON and we just kept it for now. We will be adding real drums, bass, and some solo parts. Did this in 2 hours tonight, and the chain was this.... VERY COOL SURPRISE AT THE END TOO! - keep reading...

VOCALS - TLM-103 into the Vintech 1272 into the 1176 and then into the box

GUITARS - Numerous tracks with various strumming techniques. APEX 435's into the DigiPRE into the box

GUITAR was a SEAGULL Signature Series - SWEET!

Then after I got the rough mix on it, I mastered it, but.............

This is the SWEET PART! The TRIDENT MTA 80B came in the other day. Bastiaan and I messed with it some and then applied it on the MASTER fader. Well Bastiaan, got me fired up that night, so I then applied it tonight and man what a huge difference it makes in the overall aireness of the sound. Really makes it come alive

The Master fader chain was:

TRIDENT MTA 80B as a stereo channel strip - used the EQ and gain stage to eq.

Waves linear Multi-band EQ

L2

This thing (trident MTA 80B) is awesome and I really think that I will start to use it more once the new setup is all finalized..

So.... with that! Enjoy the rough and NOT YET finished song....

Hey IntelDoc,

The guitars do sound fantastic, my girlfriend and I are sitting here listening to it again and again lol. Love the different strumming going on in this, definately gives it a great sound and feel. The sound quality is superb. Them apex mics are really working for you. I definately am diggin it, hang on a sec gotta press play again. Ok im back Great job Chris, cant wait to hear the finished product.

Thanks again for your help with the Vintech

Peace
Eddie

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Eddie,
Thanks! Glad that you enjoyed it. It should be a nice tune when it is all said and done...
Guitars are pretty cool, and he has that strummy strum style that is kinda sweet when you double it all up. There are actually 3 stereo guitar tracks on this right now. Left is -100 and -50. Right is 100 and 50. (respectively) and the other is fully wide -100 and 100. If you listen to Train Wreck on my website, it is the same guy. Same style for the most part. This guy is pretty cool. Busy, he is a med student at Georgetown, and managed to land one of my better session drummers in his band that plays around the area. Really liking the APEX mics. I know that they are not "the best" but the get the job done pretty well. Oh well....

Glad you and the lady liked it. More to follow!

Off now for awhile. Talk to you all in a few days.

Here's something else that IntelDoc just mix/mastered for us..... a song Paul Curtiz and I wrote around a film script called 'Fa's Garden', which is basically the story of a southern lady haunted by a death in her past. Lyrics by Paul, and I wrote the music...with Ev/Nightshadecrisis on violin.

Fa's Garden

Great work Roy, Doc and Nightshade. But I must say I'm a bit dissapointed, I thought that mud-banjo-slide-blues from your last trip would be the next song you'd post Roy

Hi Stiff,
Can't wait for you to hear 'Down Dirty Love', which Paul and I just finished tracking...it's a pure rocker...Paul did killer vocals on it last night, and I'm mixing it now...it kicks butt...

Thanks, Gene...

garrett,
Some really good grooves on these songs...most of em would make great rhythm beds for killer vocals.
Any reason there aren't any vox?...good job.

Hi Gene,
'Mornings Dew' - great tune, i really like the subtle melodies going on in the background (classical guitar/mandolin i think).
I love the intro with the background percussion. Are they tympani drums with plenty of reverb?
Im really interested in how you got that sound.

Great work mate!

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Hey all:

Over the weekend I got a chance to work on 'If This Is Goodbye' and have it pretty much to where I want it. I redid the leads with one of my guitars that had fresh strings and added a few more vocal tracks under the chorus. After I was happy with the bounce, I brought the stereo file back into PT and put the Waves L2 and the Linear Multi-band EQ on it and quickly re-bounced it to the file that's listed below...comments are always welcome...enjoy!

If This Is Goodbye

Also, took a listen to Fa's Garden - very cool stuff!! Very shimmery! What kind of EQing did you use on it to make it sound so bright...Everything seems to sit nicely in the mix.

Good stuff!

Keep Rockin,
J.

Hello Ruben,

Thank you for listening and your kind words.

Quote:

Yes they are. This song had a number of resons for existing, and one was to experiment with MIDI. My daughter has a Yamaha SO3 and this was a percussion setting that had orchestral samples. I did put a lot more reverb on than I normally do because I was going for a rumble that would last a bit and fade away, and the pattern was ba ba ba baaaaam.

The guitar was my 25+ year old cracked mexican guitar. My mom got it on a trip she went to Mexico, and she knows nothing about guitars, but it is a keeper.

Thank you again for listening.

Take Care,
Gene

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

generation,
for Fa's Garden, Roy sent me the mix pretty much done. He basically sent me 4 stereo files that he mixed, but he did not like the vocal sound. I sent it through the outboard 1176 after I isolated it to a mono VOX track. Then compressed it a bit and brought it forward some. For the mastering part, I first bounced it down to the 48/24 file and opened a new session. Then imported it into a new 48/24 session with the track and a Master Fader. After that I used the Trident 80B that I have as an insert to take advantage of the EQ stage of the Preamp. It has a very nice 4 band that is pretty smooth throughout. Then after that I used the Waves Linear Multiband Compressor and then the L2. The trident really popped the volume up a lot and then the L2, just limited it were it would not distort. I think that it came out pretty well and am happy with it.

Hope this helps?

Roy,

Just saw Burn in your signature, when did you post this one? Very dirty, damn wicked bassline too!

Roy Howell 09-21-2004 01:45 PM

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Thanks STiff...both of those songs are a couple of years old, and I'm about to finally have em mastered. I wrote 'Burn' around some Harley engine samples, which I find very interesting. A Harley engine is a very percussive sound, especially when it's idling...so part of that song is Harley 'pops and chugs'.
Still coming with the new little 'rocker'...Paul's done with the vocals...just a matter of getting it mixed...

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Hi Ev...I first played a real bass on this, but was never happy how it sat in the mix, so I used a midi slap bass through a Focusrite eq and limiter(I think...hehe)...gettin sleepy here.
thanks, Roy

Kudos, Monsieur de Howelle.
Your song got me excited from the get go.

Stellar musicianship, Roy.
