Hey Roy,

I just recorded an open mic in Minnesota last weekend and here is a really neat piece featuring a flute duo, one of them being a Native American flute.

Gene,
I went back and listened to this flute duet you posted last week...very nice. There's something so peaceful about the flute, especially alone. Reminds me of the place I just went canoeing.
thanks, Roy

Thanks. I recorded it last year with my now defunct band. I might re-record the vocls on that and some of the other songs, add a few and release it.

pk,
I went back and heard 'Neuroscape'...very cool...takes you to a trippy place, but it's done really well, as usual. I love some of those sounds you used...very nice.
Don't forget about 'Southern Chill' either...
thanks, Roy

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

All,
It has been awhile since I have put anything up here. I have been pretty busy remixing a few bands and recording some new ones. Finally been using the new pre's and damn are they nice. That DIGI PRE rocks and the Vintech, well... Neve parts are Neve parts... Very smooth!

One band I have been working with on remixing their songs is a very ole' school rock style as I call them. Just a bunch of old rockers who are having a good time, that's what it is about right? This was a ballad tune that we made a very live BIG sounding piece. Some of my closer peeps have heard it already and more will come, but I am pretty pleased with the sound. They tracked it at their small studio and used a Mackie with the Alesis 2496. They then brought the drive over to mix in Pro Tools. Been working with them on their 10 song CD for the past 2 months now. It is coming along nicely. Going to Airshow Masteringin a few weeks to have it professionally mastered.

I used a lot of EQ, compression, eventide H3000 D/SE, Lexicon PCM90 and Trueverb for the main verbs. Layered them on specific tracks. Two tap delay for the vocals. LA-2A plug for the vocal compression. Just having a good time with this one.....

Enjoy,

H.I.A.B.

Nice track Doc
A couple of things I would change. (my opinions only)
The bass is a bit woofy. Maybe a C4 would clean it up?
And the riff picked guitar part get's burried and I think is quite important. The solo is very quiet too.

Drums are killer (except maybe roll some lows out of the toms).
Vocal sounds great. Some harmonies here and there would really lift it and take it to another level.
Love the distorted guitar. Sounds huge.

Thanks for sharing it.

Aussie,
Thanks! That is something to note... I will tweek a bit more and leave the rest to the Mastering Engineer..... We are planning on having it professionally mastered.. I see what you mean on the riff though. I think that he wanted it low though. Cannot remember? Too many songs! Thanks for listening. I will try the suggestions.... The drums I really dig.. for that style at least!

Nice work DOC. I agree about the solo; I think the part where it goes from guitar harmony to the single part could stand out a little more, especially in this genre. (I still can't force myself to spell that word wrong, even for comedy's sake.)

Great work, as usual.

Some gee-tar rock...

I Have Seen Tomorrow New track my band - trio rock....

specs: drums on Adat 8 track - dumped to 001, the rest - direct injection - POD, Sansamp..etc, vox - NTK with VC6Q pre, mixed in the box..

Comments suggestions welcome (it sounds a litle boomy to me this morning)

Thanks - curtis

Hey Everyone, I just picked up a Digi 002 Rack, and am new to PT, but am loving it so far. So here I am...

That track is very tight. I had to turn down my monitors quite a bit. (in a good way). It rocks, sort of a seattle-zepplin-metal head knocker. My .02 is that it sounds good, and not too boomy for my ears.

Anyhow...

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

nightshadecrisis - thanks - here are the specs - this was a little different than our normal recording. Drums at drummer's studio - 8 tracks to ADAT - standard kit micing (ended up not using hi-hat track), dumped via lightpipe to PT.
Guitars (I usually always use an amp) but this time I played a 335 left channel and SG right channel through a Fulltone 70's distortion into a POD into a tascam mixer for a little EQ - double tracked, and actually 6 tracks during the last part of the solo
Bass was DI from our bassist tube head, track was mult'd to two tracks one DI and one Sansamp plugin using the SVT setting, vox were NTK through VC6Q with the Metaflanger used in the breaks.

Vox are mostly one track then doubled during the chorus (if you can call it a chorus) with a little harmony. Most EFX were a TC Electronics M2000 and I print the EFX tracks, kick verb, snare verb, vox verb, etc. About the only plugin I use "live" is the 1176 and Sansamp. Mixed in the box, then ran through a TC Finalizer.
Cheers Curtis

GregJ-

I really like that song. It has a very nice feel. I have only one thing that seems out of charcter with the rest of the tune. The part that is vocal layered, You...You ...You... (etc) I thought was a little too much, and maybe the simpler part would do the trick there. I get what you were going for, it was sort of weezer-like, but that part just didnt work for me.

All in all, I really enjoyed the song. Take my .02 for what it's worth, just an opinion.

Cheers!

bigbubbaj -

Thanks for listening. I know that part you mention..... My wife said it sucked, too.

I will probably drop the BG vocals there and sub a drum fill or maybe a guitar riff instead. Simpler is usually better. I'll get to work tonight!

Hey Roy,

Here is one of the tracks that I just finished from the concert that my daughter's choir had last week. These kids really did a great job. This piece is not easy, it has half steps all over the place and the harmonies are also not straightforward.

She is also very pumped because she auditioned to be in the schools top choir group next year, which is the one being heard on this track, and she made it. The school has various levels of choir groups depending upon ability.

With her always singing around the house, it is a lot of fun hearing live music quite often...that is good music...not my playing all the time !

I hope you enjoy !

Hey Fresh, welcome to the DUC! Songs sounds cool. Honestly has an ole' school Meat Beat Manifesto sound. I like it man. Did you master it out at all? Seemed a tad low with the levels? I am going to put it through my monitors soon. Just quickly listened on the ole' puter speakers..

Cool stuff!

Welcome!

Gene,
It's great... ...I truly enjoyed it...You're right, it is a complicated vocal piece, and they made it seem effortless. Congratulations to your daughter(and you)...she must be very good to sing with this level of choral singers.

Hola everyone,
Virgin poster to this board. I'm young and don't have a whole lot of experience with this stuff (and even less money), but was just looking for any help/critique/advice/opinions possible. This is the first recording my buddies and I in our band have made, so it's not too stellar by any means but we are hoping to improve. Vox recorded with an SM57, drums: matched pair RODE NT5s, acoust. guit: SM81, elect. guit.: SM57. Recorded on an 001 system. The elect. guitar part is going to be redone in the next couple days. Any help with this is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
