Nice sounds indeed. I like ambient styles. Reminded me of Euthekra! I'm sure you are into that band. Nice job. I would add up one more rhytmic instrument, just a thought

Hey friends.

Well, because im a wiener, I blew up my system just about, trying to mix a song that is heavy on the bass guitar. So im down to mixing on headphones now which is a no-no(not that a home stereo is any better... ) Anyway, Here is a quick clip of a cover song im doing here of "The Church",
any pointers would be great as these headphones dont transfer bass response very well..

Thanks a bunch,
=-Ben

Re: Latest stuff!

I think the last link I put up was broken so try this one everyone. Except Falling Backwards the other songs were done in LE not too bad. We have the rest that were tracked in a D24 system being mixed right now. The best part is gear heads wont know what was done with Behringer gear ( and alot was). The mics were pretty nice tho...that helps alot.

BTW we changed our name a long time ago but we havnt made a new host name yet ....LOL

3000 the songs "LOST SPIRITS"and "HANGAR18"I Must say the mixing job on this is Superb!! The only thing I find is its just a little to shimmery or perhaps limited and compressed giving it a somewhat sterile sound.Songs like these should have more dynamics.I had to add eq and turn my amp up to really enjoy this. All in all these are great songs done by professional musicians.:)

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here *DELETED* *DELETED*

ev, that sounds fantastic!

I think the only criticism I would have is that I was distracted a bit by the percussion during the guitar solo, but that just may be me listening too hard!

Very well done. I'm going to go practice mixing now... completely humbled.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here *DELETED* *DELETED*

Ev,

Nice! Very nice!

I have listened to it several times now and I like what I hear. Okay, now for the critique....

The vocals seem to start out low but then soon gain momentum, volume-wise. Was that intentional? R.E.M. used to do that in their earlier songs and NO, I am not comparing this to R.E.M. so anyone who was gonna bling me on that just go ahead and bite me. The vocal most definitely fits the song. I think the interplay between the drums and guitar at the solo *is* busy, but it works for me anyway. Was it done live or overdubbed? Either way, it sounds tight.

What all were you doing in that tune, vocals, guitar, what?

More!

Nightshade,
Cool tune and it sounds great! Has a strange psuedo-VOIVOD sound on the guitars. Very cool sound. I would bump the vocals up a notch or lower the guitars and the hi hat a tad.

Other than that, very cool tune!

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here *DELETED* *DELETED*

hey, thanks for all the input, i get alot out of hearing what you guys have to say. joe, the volume for the vocals wasnt intentional, i've actually been meaning to clean that up a little bit. there are 2 vocal tracks that are right in the beginning-a low and a high, and i think a little automation would do it wonders.....

as for the Djembe drum playing in the solo, thats another thing i was thinking about taking out altogether, it seems a bit too much. in the other parts though i was going to turn it up a notch so that it comes out a bit more. it was done overdubbed(drums, then bass, then guitar, vocals, then djembe). it was recorded with 4 888's(I'm trying to convince my boss to go HD3 Accel...."no sir, your plugins will be just fine.....), an SSL 4035 board, a few Distressors on most things going in...for the vocals i used the Neve/Shep 1081 preamp, Fatso comp and a Neumann Fet47. It's great to have so much pro gear at my disposal, i didnt play anything on this one, though on a few of their other songs i'll be doing some stuff.

the funny thing is this is a pretty rough mix, i havent done all that much to it, but we really spent alot of time getting everything to go in sounding good, i think for sure its the best thing i've done(also the first on a TDM system). Thanks everyone for the suggestions and input! I'll try to get a more mixed version up at some point this week if i get a chance.

I just finished up a new song here at home and would love some opinions. *I'm pretty damn happy with how it turned out. *I started with one riff Thursday night, worked on it for a few hours last night and a big chunk of the day today. *It's pretty thrashy with a huge doom section in the middle. *No words, no samples, no leads, just an instrumental at the moment. *

Let me know what you guys think.

ProTools LE 6.2
Reason 2.5
DKFH
POD, Bass POD XT

As always, your input is appreciated.

I'm a little late to the party, but man this sounds great. Good work. I gues there is something to be said for making sure it sounds good going in. I'm throwing away my "I'll fix it in the mix mentality". Thanks for posting, very inspiring.

hey, thanks for the nice comments, i really appreciate all the input i get from you guys. lets see...
captain: i didnt play anything on this song, im doing some other stuff with the band right now, but none of it is on this song if i remember correctly....haha, we spent alot of time getting everything perfect. the band is all very talented, and have their own original sound. this was my first real good sounding rock recording i think. were doing two other songs that don't quite sound complete yet, but when we finish them, ill be sure to post them.
thanks a bunch,

Hey guys...just back from canoeing on the Little Red River for a few days...not enough words to describe how beautiful it was. My friends there have about 200 acres on the side of a mountain overlooking these rolling pastures...cattle... Just an amazing place.....it replenishes your soul it you let it.
I could ramble on, but...

Schmidt,
What a superb piece...the horn and string sounds are exceptional. You mentioned using Sampletank and Reason, but are most of the actual sounds the converted Akai samples you also mentioned? Very nice work. thanks, Roy

nightshadecrisis/Ev,
'Attila' is just a great song, arrangement, and the band kicks butt...You did a really good job recording these guys, Ev...Good stuff.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here *DE

No reason used,
Only Sampletank, and converted akai samples, the hardest part is playing the notes the way the real instrument sounds...sometimes I play one instrument hundreds of time untill I'm satisfied...dynamic..phrase...also there was alot af 'postproduction' ....i've combined instrumets to achieve the sound I want
Thanx for the nice words

Another beautiful piece, Schmidt. The piano chops about 3/4 of the way through are very nice. You must be classically trained to match symph sounds so well. Good job. Post more when you can.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Thanx man
but I do very different music(more jazz,funk,rock,even drum$bass)
this is new for me but I like it.There is something clean in classic harmony and it is very
wide and emotional.....I play piano and that helps me,but I am not trained in classic scool
I 've done this for the national theatre here in Sofia.
..glad you like it,more is coming This summer i'll be working for New World Cinema(LA)
like sound enginier on the field but I hope to do some music for them...:)Thanx again

Yep, classical is cool. I love most of DeBussy's works probably more than any music I know...just amazing...and Prokofiev's 'Dance of the Knights' is more powerful to me than most supposedly 'heavy' whatever music out there...truly a badass composition.
Post some of your jazz/funk/rock sometime too.
