simple (and quite possibly stupid) operations question

Hi DUC,
Whenever I type a start playback position in the transport, hit enter and then press the space bar, PT scrolls back to the counter location point I entered and begins playback.

Is there a way to have it begin playback at the desired point but have the screen stay where it is? In other words, if I'm viewing bars 45-48 in the edit window, and want to begin playback from bar 40, can I type 40 into the transport, hit enter and press the space bar to begin playback, but have the screen stay focused on bars 45-48?

It seems like I have tried all the options in the operations preference page, as well as the scrolling options (and other offerings) under the Options menu, but to no avail. Is this possible? I guess you can do it using the pre-roll feature on the transport, but I was hoping to not have to...

Sorry if this seems daft

Best,
Andrew

If I'm not misunderstanding you, what you want to do is select "none" for your scrolling option under the options menu.

Re: simple (and quite possibly stupid) operations question

Hi Tom,
Thanks for the reply. I have done this, and it works as it should. The screen does not scroll from left to right during playback according to the cursor. The screen does jump to the start position, however, once playback starts, which is what I'm having an issue with. I would like to keep the screen from "jumping" to the start playback position...

Anybody else know what I'm talking about?

Best,
Andrew

Hmmm.....That's odd, because when I select "none" in options under scrolling and enter a start point that is before the visible part of the window it doesn't jump back to that point when I hit play. It starts and then the cursor comes across the window.
Maybe someone else can shed some light on this.

Try going to preferences, operations, and uncheck the first option under "Transport." In Options, uncheck "Link Track and Edit Selection."

If this doesn't work -- trash your preferences, restart, and try again. Corrupt preferences make weird seletion things happen.
