GRACE 801 PREAMP....
 

Hey Guys...

I just borrwoed my firends grace 801 and wanted to know if anyone knew proper use.

Is it ok to let the LED level indicator to flicker red or is there going to be distortion? The reason I ask is becuase the pre seems to go "red" on even vocals at the 9 o clock position...very low on the gain knob.


any thoughts. does someone have a manual they could email me?

Exactly when the red led comes on, you have just barely 12 dB of headroom with the balanced outs...so yes, you can kiss the red led if you want to.

I would add that if it sounds good, it is good. If you like the sound, then that is the ultimate criteria. Red or no red, it's really up to thine ears.
