Yesterday we have established PT24 and PT24 at start has informed:

"DAE Error - 4 was encountered"

DIGITEST has informed:

"ProTools device driver error. Error code 272. Shut down and try again"

we have a P2-350/128mB/9.1Gb HDD IBM SCSI2 UW 7200rpm/SCSI adapter Mylex (Bus Logic) UW/ Samsung 19" 900P monitor/SVGA Creative TNT 16 mB/

How to fix this problem?

You'll prabably have to switch SCSI adapters. Use the Adaptec 2940UW, 3940UW or a mainboard with AIC-78xx (I use an ASUS mainboard with AIC 7890 - works fine) i believe PT can utilize the Adaptec driver only, and will refuse any other driver. I found the test features of the Install'o'rator utility to reveal several faults on my system. It's also far less cryptic than the Digitest (I used to get an "Error 4 - Failed". Really useful information for an end user).

Good luck!

PT stops on a phase of loading DAE - why I should change the adapter ? DAE error 4 - is what?

Re: Probs

When I pruchased NT24Mix Digi recommended the adaptec 2940UW and 10,000 rpm drives.

It's possible the in not recommending other scsi cards they may have used some wisdom.

I would try the adpatec card before anything else.

I gad a 2940U wich was narrow but it wouldn't work ont hew wide faster drives so I purchased the recommeded card.

Hope everything works out.

Oh, YES! I ran into xactly the same problem today. After completing a humongous mix yesterday without problems, today my afternoon started with a "DAE error #4 encountered". No new software installed, cords, cables and plugs untouched, no strike of lightning, no natural disasters. I rebooted several times - no use. I reinstalled the software - no use. I switched the machine off for 5 minutes and rebooted. Booyah! Now the little weasel acts as if nothing ever happened.
Although it's nice to be back on track, it's a little disturbing not to know when this'll happen again. What I need to know to troubleshoot this: Are the DAE-errors listed on the digiweb the same for Mac and PC? If not, could the PC DAE-error explanations please be made available? Thanks!
