Hey Doc,

Thanks for giving it a listen - you always seem to be willing to help me out - so thanks a lot!!

I am assuming that you are saying that the vocal needs the AutoTuning - I really thought it was pretty close, but I'll throw it on a see how far off the meter says I am. I will take your word for it with the bass - I have such a hard time hearing that correctly in my room. I have to do something about that. I'm also a little confused on the guitar on the left that you refer to - if you're talking about the acoustic, it's just a doubled track panned equally. If it's the electric at the end, I think it actually is panned a little to the left.

I'll give the snare a tweek as well and maybe post a revision in a day or so.

Thanks again!!

The vocals were good, but slightly off in some parts. That was why I gave you that setting to "try." It just smoothes it out. Also, not sure what plugs you have, but RVox is a great one to use.

The acoustic sounded a little louder to the left. I will throw it on my system later to hear it through the mains.

It is a great beginning though, just needs some tweeks.

Also, http://www.readyacustics.com for the bass issue... It helped me out ALOT!

I was wondering if I could get some feedback on on two new mixes I have done. I have been taking some courses on Berklee Music online and I am trying to apply some things I'm learning. I still have a way to go but if you have any suggestions for improving the mix at all please let me know.

Thanks,

Eric,
Not my type of genre, but decent. The drums sound like a drum machine though. That was the first thing that stood out. Guiars are a little shrilly. Vocals sound good though, but the drums defintitely sound mechanical.

Again, not my type of music, but everyone has their thing.

Re: Need some help with this mix

hey, cool tune and nice mix job. a lot of the advice given I agreed with, but my biggest thought on the tune actually isnt in your control. I think the snare sound doesnt really suit the tune. like, its a cool sound, but its kind of thin and doesnt have a lot of presence. its a sound that would work in some tunes, but doesn't feel like it carries enough weight for this one. theres only so much EQ you could do to simulate that, but I guess in the future you could just have the drummer spend more time thinking about what snare sound suits the song(assuming of course he has the luxury of using a different snare or is really good at tuning). if youv ever listened to steve jordan play that guy will willingly use a different snare for every tune if he thinks it warrants it, and really spends a lot of time trying to picture the right drum sound for the song itself. a lot of drummers think that their sound is what it is and its not their job to change(hey it worked for ringo), but I think its totally worth taking the time to 'craft the sound' and get something everyones happy with. I've actually scrapped entire takes of tunes and told the drummer to come back on another day if the snare sound wasnt doing it for me. mind that was on my own music in my own studio. thats not always an opportunity you have, but if you do, you might as well.

Ok Doc, (and anyone else that's interested) I've had another go at it. Mostly just changes in levels - as you had recommended - or at least my best try at it. And some AutoTune-ing - just to iron out the rough spots.

Here's the latest:

Enjoy!

And since I can never seem to leave well enough alone - there is yet another new version up on the web page:

http://www.cavetyoureruptor.com/Let%20It%20Go.htm

This is an attempt to add some space and dynamics - to try and make more of a difference between verse and chorus and let the instruments breathe more.

Don't know if I succeeded, but I'd be happy to hear comments!!
