Darkshade,

I listened to the first track on the list by mistake (my reading comprehension sucks), but it sure made Grief sound like a huge step forward.
The track pulled me in incredibly, I had to stop what I was doing and took a smoke break

great work, thanks for sharing

Hey... I'm keen to submit some of my stuff. I'm in a punk rock/emo band and that stuff can be really hard to mix well (guitar distorions! :eek . I am only just learning pro tools as I'm constantly on the road, I only get about 4 days home at a time. We tour the Australian east coast mainly and play to about 2000 teenagers a night. Some call it lame but I'm having the time of my life. Planning a US tour soon! Anyone else rec'ing their own band?
Late.

Thanks for the feedback Darryl and Darkshade.

Darryl, as far as miking the drum kit for Modern Day Hero, it was pretty simple really, two C1000's for OH's, an Audio Technica 3035 for the hat, a Shure Beta 57 on the snare, a Shure PE66L on each tom, and double miked the kick drum with an AKG D112 inside the kick for the punch and a Shure Beta 52 halfway through the outside kick resonant head for the lowend. The drum kit was recorded in a 12' X 12' in my basement that is treated to be totally dead. All the reverb and room sound is D-Verb, that plug in many love to hate, but I like it for drums! The kick tracks are gated with the Digi rack gate (using the external key - the key being one of the two kick tracks bumped forward 15ms and vice versa for the other kick track). I manually remove all drums and cymbals from the tom tracks, sounds better to me that way. I don't gate the snare at all. EQ all drums to taste and compress the overheads. And that's about it really.

Sorry to those who couldn't listen, I really don't have any control over the band's MP3 site.

All I can say is thanks for trying to listen

I'm going to go listen to everybody elses stuff right now. It's amazing the number of talented engineers in our little DUC!

hey Emo King,
I recorded my own band ¨Brutal Mastication¨, hhmmm death metal/hardcore stoner mosh music?? some people call it deathcore or something. We´re more ¨hardcore¨ as in punkish than most metal bands. We´re also more metal than most hardcore bands....I just received the sessions today!! Album soon to be released possibly(hopefully) through Arctic Music.

In the meantime I´ve been working with Primate, my chilean band´s recording (previous to me).
They´re more rock/metal/sometimes industrial
almost?

definitely miss playing out and look forward to a european tour soon! (can´t get back to the US just yet!)

I recorded quite a few EMO bands at my night job Studio 13 in Fla.

Hey Jorge442. Some emo bands? wow! It's a nuts project cos it's a crazy genre. Seems fairly simple (guitar, bass, drums, vocals) but in order to keep a 'raw' and energetic emo sound you have to cut back on some of the glitzy fx and whatnot... Makes for a more intimate and less-manufactured sound. But emo is often portrayed as "poorly recorded crying".... at least i know the truth! Late.

Hello All,
I am putting a piece of material here for all to listen to. Mark Knecht helped me with this tune by playing guitar and coming up with some strings and a grand piano patch for the some of the MIDI. Please give it a listen and let us know what you think. You can find it at:
null

Thanks,

Emo King and Jorge, I was reading your conversation about emo and hardcore bands and thought you might like these:

Nodes of Ranvier - Cold Fingers

Nodes of Ranvier - Horizon

Nodes of Ranvier - Soundtrack For Salvation

I recorded this band about 4 months ago and I hear they are getting signed to Recourse Records. They deem themselves "Procore" which is progressive hardcore. I think they are very talented. Give it a listen, I think you will enjoy their music.
