HDN Thunderbolt/OMNI, software without hardware

Simple question about PTHDN Thunderbolt/OMNI.
If needed, is it possible to use PTHD software with Mac's build in output without any hardware attached (Native box or OMNI)?

Yes, all versions of Pro Tools including Pro Tools HD since version 9 can work as standalone for record and playback without any hardware other than the onboard Mac sound hardware.
