Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

thanks aussie, i liked the vox alot more on this version, i do think the drums should be lowered, but im sick of re-mixing and uploading it to post....so im gonna remix it and leave it for now, maybe i'll post the remix by the time my next song is released.

i HOPE to have a hard rockin song out by the end of the month called "agression" but its not moving as well as i hoped it would, but we'll just have to wait and see.

thanks again for the listens guys

Well it´s been some time since i last posted some work, but i´ve just uploaded new tunes to the site and you´ll be most welcome to take a listen..

Most notable perhaps is my forray into the trance-genre (which btw. is not my normal genre) with the remix of ATW´s "Tears Of Joy" -

You´ll be welcome to comment..

Aussie - I appreciate your advice re. bad eq problem. I'm using Event Project Studio 6 speakers. I think I might need some crappier speakers and/or a subwoofer for monitoring. I'm going to import a commercail cd into pt and see how it sounds. It's weiird...I use a bunch of different speakers in my life and all sound different. At home - TV with 5.1 stereo, in car with an awesome setup, at work with bigt sony headphones in crappy tinny speakers and of course my studio. Still, do you think getting a cheap set of monitoring speakers and/or subwoofer might be the answer? If so anyone have some recommends?

soundsurfr - It's actually an electric guitar whammy up at the end of Still In The Night. I just cut out/lowered all instruments but acoustic guitar finishing notes and then at the last instance raised the electric final whammy chord to integrate them. I'm a cheater!

P A M - Very satisfying cut. I listened to Morning light also and although it's a different more ambient feel, I really liked it alot.

Greg/Soundsurfr,
'Dance of the Black Eyed Virgins' is really nice...(It's true that you and I think alike in some ways. When I even saw the title, I thought of my 'One Eyed Gypsy Waltz' title... ) But this took me to a cool place... very subtle feel, but with nice percussion. What is the male 'voice' program I'm hearing? (Great job on it's unique melody...)
thanks, Roy

Keys are great. Are they samples?

Thanks for listening and for comments...

Well, we use a CAD Equitek 100 going through a Focusrite Trakmaster (I like the Trakmaster).
The mic is so,so....I don´t have the money to upgrade. Maybe I get a NTK in the future, who knows...Or maybe an old Telefunken, yeah right..

Then, it´s drumsamples together with me playing a Triton Studio. The bass is real bass.

(I'de love to have them on hand myself ). So, is this a remix of an existing session by you, or someone else? Very good job, regardless... Thanks, Roy

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Hi Roy,- and thanks a lot for your comments, - awesome to get that kind from a sesoned listener.

The first soloinstrument you hear is Emagic ES-2 which is the best soft-synth I´ve ever come by, - the synth sound is driven through Auto-tune, Waves reverb and got some heavy analouge compression before going into the mix.
The pads is from heavy programing of a Korg Triton and Roland JV-2080.

The whole mix i driven through Waves mastering bundle in the end and finished off with some very light analoug compression.

The whole job came by in a sort of stange way, I had the pleasure of listening to some of the US-trancegroup ATW´s tunes, and reconed that I could do something for thier sound, - as i found it a bit light. Well one thing lead to another and I ended up remixing the tune for them.
It was truely a hassel sending tracks and recordings over the big ocean and I only got a very small number together with the original, - so not an easy job, - but in the end I´m pretty happy with the experience.
I have to note that this is not my regular genre as I´m normally into filmmusic

Hope this awnsers some of your questions
I´ve been asked to take another remix-job for them next month so more is comming...

Well, I finally put up a few new MP3s on the ol' site.

"Douglas in a Spacesuit" - From a new client. They're a Brit Pop band called Ellem.

"Please Me" This is from another new client named Glenda Langevin. It still needs a vocal track, but you get the picture.

"Red Light Parade" Recorded last year for a project called Vital Factor. I also helped them out by singing and playing the drums. Not really my cup o' tea, but it was fun.

"Small Comfort" - Dirty Nightclub Mix (link below**)- A tune by my dear friend Scott MacGill, that I recorded a few weeks ago. Also a work in progress, but I also like it at it's current state.

**For some reason I can't create a direct link to this one. You can go HERE to grab it. You can also find MP3s of my solo stuff, and a side project of mine called The Campaign, on the same page.

Enjoy, and please let me know what you think!

I listened to two. (When you've only got a 56k connection it takes long enough to do that )
Douglas in a Spacesuit - nice track. I enjoy that style. Nice mix. Very clean.
Small Comfort - Excellent. I can hear some smooth Tennor Sax filling in the windows and maybe even an outro solo?
Top stuff

Thanks! Yeah, I'm looking forward to filling out "Small Comfort" a bit. I definitly agree with you about the sax. I also plan on laying down some acoustic drums (the loops will act as color) and some more electric gtr.

Thanks for listening. Anyone else?

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

BigRed,
I listened to "Douglas in a Spacesuit" all the way through. It is a fine tune and sounds great. My thoughts (and this is nitpicking, but that's why we do this, right) are that the beginning acoutic guitar was not quite loud enough...the electrics come in and seem to overpower it. Also the drums seem too "far away". Whether that was miking or effects I don't know.
Ofcourse it's all very subjective and the bottom line is, it sounds great - nicely done.
-jim

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

corsolini -

I agree with you 100% on that intro acoustic. I'm planing on boosting it when we do the final mix.

The drum sounds are intended to be somewhat "distant". Niether the band, nor myself wanted a "sharp" close mic sound, so I used a 3 mic setup - snare, kick and mono overhead. No verb and a touch of eq help complete that earthy, live, brit pop kind of vibe.

Thanks for your comments!

Well I've got another one up, I actually did it back in oct/nov. but just finally decided to put it up after I just did a little polishing this afternoon..

It is called Witchqueen, and is here .

It was inspired by a friend of mine who is definately witchy in her ways... and when she is she does it like a queen. (think alice in wonderland queen... OFF with his HEAD)

Here is one of my first Pro Tools mixes.
It's a demo of a tune from my band that we will actually start tracking the drums for in a few weeks.
I think there will be a few issues here.
1. I need to get a set of good monitors.
2. The drums were tracked to a Roland VS880 then dumped to a stereo mix and imported into PTLE
3. This music isn't your normal pop style stuff.

Any suggestions/comments are welcome.

Tim,
The mix sounds good. The only thing I can think of is that maybe a little more seperation on the guitars. Which part of the swamp are you from? I'm from Louisiana and a Texas transplant myself.

Plastik,
Nice mix, I can hear everything cleanly, good volumn.

Roy,
Moonbeam - Killer guitar tones again with nice playing to boot! Good punchy mix. The song reminds me of Satch's Flying in a Blue Dream sound somewhat (thats a compliment btw ).
