Problem with Mix and Edit Window

Hello, I have a problem with the mix and edit windows. I always have the edit window on monitor 1 and mix on monitor 2. Even if I save the window configuration, I always have both windows on monitor 1 when the session is loaded. I'm sure that it worked. My older templates are loaded correctly. Is that a bug? I am using a Mac Mini. Monitor 1 to HDMI and Monitor 2 to Thunderbolt.

Greetings Carsi

I know. I have it too.
It's always been like this, in my experience. PT doesn't remember windows placements/sizes, show/hide status etc. and I can't get windows configurations to help. I'm just used to arranging windows manually everytime I open a session, I don't even think about it anymore. Same problem with track folder open/collapsed status. It's silly. But we're so used to Avid not fixing stupid little things like this.

PS: while I'm at it; WTF, what other application in history has it as a first thing to do when something doesn't work, that you should trash your preferences file!!!? I want my preferences to stick, damn it! Just as a note; I haven't trashed prefs at all for a couple of years, just for the hell of it, and everything (mostly) still works!

Not sure it will work on Mac, but it's been reported for Windows users to stretch the underlying screen across both screens, then place the Edit and Mix windows where wanted and then close Pro Tools with Alt+F4, which is the shortcut to close a program that's in focus. Anything like that on Mac?

There is no underlying screen on the Mac version of PT.

We actually get to utilise all the real estate our screens provide. =P

Ah, okay, so on Mac there is no Pro Tools screen behind the Edit and Mix windows?

I've never even used Window Configurations. On Mac, if you just make the window smaller than the full screen, then Option-click the green button at the top left of the window, it should maximize it. Save and reopen the session should bring the windows back onto the correct monitors. Works for me at least.

Re: Problem with Mix and Edit Window

Humm not having that problem almost all the time my sessions open in the state I saved them in.
Both edit and mix on different display's size etc. ??????????

Yes what cwsand said, ( for save in full screen with PT tool bar showing )
Or if I have saved them any smaller than full screen then they open in those save sizes and positions
Now the only time that does not happen is if manually drag (as opposed to "Option click green button cwsand mentioned) so if I drag the edit window to full screen on the Left (secondary ) Display
then it will not save there and will open behind the mix window on my right display

I almost alway position my sessions with my edit window on the left display, and my mix window on the right display ( and the right display also my dock selected display) and it is the one that is physically on the right in the display arrangement window.

I wonder if it having something mis configured in the Display arrangement window might have anything to do the issues people are having ??

It's a kind of fix for size of PTs windows (PT not remembering full screen), but I've yet to find a fix for OPs issue; both mix and edit windows will always be on the main monitor on session open.

I’ve noticed that there is a full screen option and zoom option on macOS for windows. Also, are you using virtual desktops? Are you using split screen? Just thought I’d share what came to mind. Good luck.

Well yes and no, YES on my system if I simply click the green circle button then it goes into complete full screen mode (which hides the PT tool bar at the top ) and I then have to click at the very top to show the PT tool bar and to be able to save , and when I do that then YES both the edit and mix widows will reopen with both on the main Display

BUT NO -- if I "Option" click the green button it then goes full screen EXCEPT the PT tool bar is still showing,,, and if I then save, it will reopen with the edit window on the secondary display and the mix on the main .....AND as I said, if I save with the respective windows in any smaller sizes than full screen, they open on the different monitors exactly like they were saved
