AAF Import Error on PT LE 7.4.2

I am trying to import audio files for a feature cut on Sony Vegas. It does not have OMF export option, but does have AAF. PT help says it will not import AAF with consolidated media. Have done about 20 tests so far with no luck.

When I try a AAF with .wav media separate I get " Could Not Complete your Request because error reading AAF WAV data".

When I try a AAF with aiff media separate I get "Could not complete your request because an unexpected error happened while reading the files main composition sequences."

Have tried using obscure program called "AV Transfer" (from 2004) to generate an OMF. Worked at first, then when I did a full reel it messed up big time with random errors and sped up audio.

Will do just about anything to get this to work. Producer has a fabulous gangster movie but should not have used Sony Vegas!!!

Hi Kent...

I've used a piece of software called EDL Convert by a company called Cui Bono Soft, which will convert Vegas files, as well as most EDL (Edit Decision List) formats.

It converts all sorts of multitrack session files into lots of formats.

It will convert to PT v5 sessions, which may seem rather backwards, but should get you up and running.

However, there is a downside... it's PC only. I haven't used it since I got my MAC, so it's been sitting on my shelf for a few years gathering dust.

Cui Bono Soft were taken over by SSL a while ago. Here's the details on their version of the software:

and here:

I've just read that it doesn't support AAF! but there are so many otions avasilable, that something may be useful to you.

Hope this helps,

Jeremy.

Jeremy Paul Carol - Would you be interested in selling or renting your Cui Bono? The program would be used in Windows on the Sony Vegas side - correct? Would the PT session it creates in the Windows world be readable by a Mac running LE 7.4.2?

Hi...I could do, but if this is just one job then why don't you send me the files and I'll see if I can convert them for you..

I'm not too keen on selling software, because you never know when it may be needed and this way it won't cost you anything...

Can you get the editor to output an XML file or .txr file from Vegas - that's pretty standard. This program should convert from that OK.

I've just checked and the latest version should output Pro Tools 7.x format, including fades, etc

Cheers,
Jeremy

Re: AAF Import Error on PT LE 7.4.2

Jeremy - Great plan AND Producer would like to compensate you with something. Producer (Adam) says SSL Program takes standard .edl files or a Vegas .txt file - both of which he can provide. Perhaps we should try getting both a PT session and an OMF file in return. Can you give us your contact info or contact us so we can co-ordinate exchange:

In the end Jeremy succeeded in converting the session to ProTools and I am not sure how he did it.

The moral of this story is to never use sony vegas for professional work.
