PT LE 8 on Unibody MacBook for a week...
Just a quick question. I'm upgrading my MacBook to a MacBook Pro in the next couple of weeks but need to start learning Pro Tools LE 8 before it arrives (as I'm a Logic Pro user switching to over). I know I shouldn't be using a Mac without an external FireWire hard drive (being naughty, using the system drive), but will it be okay for a week or two while my MacBook Pro gets here?
Thanks in advance! |

Why don't you install PT and just try it? It might work if you work only with a few tracks.

should be fine if you aren't recording audio - ie, just playing around with midi or mixing existing audio tracks. I wouldn't try to record audio because you'll probably end up with pops and other glitches.

I've done quite a bit of field recording on a 3 year old macbook pro with an MBox into the internal drive. It's the first gen Intel machine. works great as long as there aren't too many tracks/plugs.
Curious about your performance on the unibody. I'm attracted to it cause it's a sexy machine. Please let us know how it goes. |

Holly73 - Can't try it yet as my MBox 2 hasn't arrived yet!
Ken Burk - Thanks for the advice, most welcomed. plutone - Will post up the results on here sometime tomorrow when my Mbox 2 arrives. Can't wait to get my hands on the Unibody MacBook Pro. I've had a play with it and it's amazing! Very curious to hear Vacuum, as I've tried to get to hear it with no luck at all! |

This is on the 2.0GHz Unibody MacBook, not the 2.4GHz model, so with only a 5400 rpm internal drive, it did pretty well. :D |
