Not much that would help DAW usage that I'm aware of..

These are the only ones I've read that interest me at all:
  • Better multimonitor support (specifically if using a docking laptop)
  • Microsoft Store will eventually also have Win32 apps, so you might not have to go out and download application updates from vendors (more like RPM or DEB in this regard)
  • Android app support

I'm sure there's a lot under the hood too.

Hey JoelG, thnx for the info on W11. Pro Tools works on Win11? Any issues? Anybody else here try 11?

FWIW, I work in IT and am more interested in trying new things out than worrying about stability... My use case is probably not a good baseline for what others should do :)

That said, I haven't had any issues personally. Pretty happy overall with Win 11 and the Pro Tools experience on it.

The only thing I would change is the ability to create folders on the Start Menu pinned list (not sure what that is actually called, formerly the "Tiles area" in Win 10). I think that is a pretty big step back personally.

And just noticed this video on Sweetwater. Not really much info in it, but...

1. From this: https://www.techadvisor.com/buying-a...ws-11-3806991/

Will my Windows 10 apps work with Windows 11?
In the vast majority of cases, yes. Microsoft has made changes to the hardware requirements for Windows 11, but app compatibility is set to remain the same. When the free upgrade to Windows 11 becomes available, all the apps you have installed will remain.

2. From Microsoft: https://blogs.windows.com/windows-in...lth-check-app/

This means that devices can upgrade to Windows 11 and critical apps and devices will simply work.

Sounds promising. I'll probably give 11 a whirl at some point. First I'll need to convert MBR to GPT, and then enable Secure Boot in bios (I think...)

For anyone not already hip to it, there has been a long running thread over at Gearspace in which one of the cats from the Windows team who works on the audio side of things regularly chimes in:

And they've started a similar thread for Win11:

Personally, I'm waiting until we have a clearer idea of what the M1 Mac Pro timeline looks like before deciding on whether my next machine will be Mac or PC.

Yes, it is good to point out that Windows 10 will still be supported until 2025. By then most people with systems that don't meet Windows 11 (or 12, who knows) requriements should be due for an upgrade.
Joel

That's good to know. Thanks, Joel.

The Android app support is what will make Windows more "Mac like" with integration from your phone and android tablets. Once Samsung gets their Quick Share feature refined we should have the same "AirDrop" functionality you get on iOS/macOS - which is actually very usefu.

Apparently Microsoft has given a workaround for TPM1.2 and an unsupported CPU. You just have to change some registry settings. I'll probably give a shot later today. Will report back if it works.
