Latency over long distance?

What is the latency issue with signal traveling over long distances to a Pro Tools system such as recording a drum kit outside and then sending the signal about 15 yards to where the computer is?

Sound travels at ~344 m/s. You can calculate the delay and determine if you can live with it. Even if the delay is too much you can nudge the resulting PT drum tracks to compensate (as long as the delay isn't an issue during the recording process).

Yeah, but electrical signals travel at near the speed of light so there isn't any appreciable delay incurred by long cable runs. I think that is what the OP was referring to, close micing the drums and sending the signal along 15 yards of cable to the A/D converter. In most recording studios you will find that between the microphone and your A/D coverter there would be over 50 feet of cable. Long cable runs have a set of problems all of their own, mainly impedance and capacitance.
