Dr. John,
Sounds great! Like Murph, I'm reminded of Yes a bit, in the best sense. Some of the effects you use on the vocals are fascinating. I love the timing, it's just so different, but still flows so well. Your songs are always unique, it's a pleasure to listen. Thanks, and please keep em coming... ~Roy |

Roy, Murph, DDP!
Thank you for taking the time to listen. The vocals were done on an AKG SolidTube, with a Behringer Magician in the insert loop of the mixer. The vocal effects are really quite simple, and I can really recommend them to anybody who wants to go for this sound. Vocals were run through an AutoTune (I can run 4 AutoTunes at once using a guide track of the rest of the main session in a subsession) which was set for very subtle correction, mixed for levels and panning and bounced to disk in stereo to be reimported into the main session. Then just 2 AUX trax (one for background vocals, one for lead), both with delays (medium slap for lead, 400ms SuperTap on the backgrounds)and an Enigma for lead and a MondoMod for backgrounds. I don't use reverb on vocals any more at all. Adjusting the AUX sends of each track (sometimes with automation), you can get the spatial seperation you need to keep everything from sounding all piled up. I tried to keep the backgrounds bright. The riff at the beginning is actually guitar, using an Auto-Wah envelope follower. The only synth lines are the bells, the string pad and a standard GM banjo. The rest is guitar. The drums are from an old Roland PMA-5, set for a TR-808 sound. Some odd percussion effects were added to fill some spaces. I really liked the meter changes from 5/4 to 6/8, it kinda grabs you without being too odd. Mastering was done with C4, Q10 and Maxim. I am very impressed with all the stuff I have heard today. Especially how clear and up-front the mixes are. I just can't seem to get that. I always run out of headroom and have to turn things down. The mix looses that "in-your-face" feel that has become so popular. I think we have just too much stuff going on. Maybe I need an HD system (dream on!). Thanks again! Dr.John |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Thanks DDP!
I wish it was one of those guitars (martin, taylor, leravee.) It is a fender 200.00 kit guitar that I am borrowing.Great action and playability though. |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
neatguys- that fender sounds great. just goes to show that it ain't how much it costs.......

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
how about some feedback on this one? it's suppose to be dorky in a "hic" kind of way. hence the use of a bad singer (that would be me thankyou )

I love She Wild!I'm trying to figure out how you did the backwards stuff at the beginning and the middle sections.Did you bounce to tape and flip the reel and sync up.Also the attack on the organ is that done throuh the fader in automation.Or is that automation on an effect. It's a cool sound.needless to say as always your drum tracks blow me away completely. Are those drums all samples.I thought yo mentioned once having a Roland for drums.Anyway another great tune Roy.Happy New Year Stu |
