Video Import Won't import linked Audio
 

When I choose Import/Video, the littel check box to import the video's audio as well is grayed out. And the audio does not import with the video. There is definitely audio in the video.

What codec/container is the video?

Ahh..didn't see this.. just posted the same thing. Mpeg 4 container/AAC audio. Won't work in Native mode..but works in Rosetta.

This component of ProTools was not yet Native in 2022.12, so you had to switch to Rosetta to import the audio, but I was hoping it would be added in 2023.3. Maybe it's simply not yet Native.

It's a pretty big omission, imo. We import these types of tracks all the time. I'll check when I can.

edit: I am also unable to import AAC audio from MP4 files when using 2023.3 natively.

OP in this case isn't on Apple Silicon if we go by their sig specs. So not the issue here.

Outdated specs? It sure sounds like a Native vs. Rosetta issue.

OP, which computer and version of PT are you using?

It's 100% a Rosetta vs Native Silicon issue. I just booted up in Native and got the greyed out audio import for video, booted up in Rosetta to import video + audio with no issues. PT 2022.3 on Ventura.

It’s not purely a native versus Rosetta problem. I am running 2023.3.0 on a new Mac mini M2 on OS 13.2.1 and I am running Rosetta 100% of the time (DCommand). Linked audio checkbox is greyed out for me every single time. Very frustrating.

Has this issue been addressed yet with Avid? I can't find anyone talking about a real solution, just complaints that it's not working. While switching back and forth between Rosetta and Apple Silicon is not that big of a deal, it seems really odd that no other DAW has this issue... and that is pretty typical for Avid.
