Dual monitor on iBook, eMac, iMac

Here is a list of patches that activate the dual display on various iBook, eMac and iMac. Try it at your own risks. If it doesn't work, you can reset the pRAM with option-command-p-r, hold those keys at startup, and wait for the computer to restart 3 time.

Re: Dual monitor on iBook, eMac, iMac

Be warned:

I spoke frankly with a friend at our local AppleCentre in regards to this firmware hack and although it is "pretty safe" (though there are some models it doesn't work and shouldn't be tried on), the resultant video performance on the 32Mb video system iBooks and iMacs driving two monitors isn't flash at all. OSX is still a very video intensive OS to drive and the slow-down in visual performance is very noticeable, I'm told. Hence why I got a Powerbook 12"...

However, the new iMac G5s have 64Mb video, and apparently handle driving dual monitors much better. A 20" model with another 20" would be awesome!
