Pro Tools 12 HD Annual Renew $399 again?
 

Hi guys,

Next month my plan expires and I was thinking about renewing it or not, so I clicked on renew and for my surprise the price was $399. I thought It was $299. Did I miss something?
For $399 they will have to come up with something very big in 12.8, or else I will let it expire.
What do you guys think?

the HD Digilink I/O One Time fee was / is 299.00 but the Main HD Software yearly upgrade has always been 399.00

Hello Ianduarte,

The Pro Tools HD Upgrade and Support Plan was originally $599, and was reduced to $399 with the Pro Tools v12.2 release in Sept 2015. It includes access to all new software releases, 25 bonus plug-ins, and ExpertPlus support for one year.

And don't forget the grossly overpriced (IMO) $999.00 reinstatement fee.

Opinions do vary, but we can all understand there should be some penalty for not upgrading when you have to. With that said, IMO, double price should be the cap.

$299 is for the non HD annual plan.

$399 is "OK" IF Avid delivers a stable 12.8 version without -9173 errors and less midi issues imho of course.

We just bought the Ableton Live 9 Suite with Push2 and I paid 1500 dollars with the exchange rate from SEK to USD. That is a bit high and we will definitely pay for the Live 10 Suite update When released this year. A minimum of 300-400 USD.

But not one error from Live9 even with over 200 tracks filled with VI and plugins with automations and sampled wav files which are very large (100-200 GB each) plus the MIDI is a DREAM to work with. I would be the happiest person alive if PT had 50% of what this super DAW has. I do agree that the GUI of Live is less than great and looking at the two DAW's one could draw the conclusion Live 9 is a bedroom product but heck NO !! It smokes PT in everything but audio mixing.

the earlier one drops the yearly fee, the sooner $$ are recouped that can be put towards the future reinstatement fee when and if Avid ever update PT.

Non-HD yearly for perpetual license is 99.00 .. i would not pay more than that !!!

Not me. And I think the clue is right there at the end of your sentance - upgrading "when you have to". Since when has upgrading anything been mandatory, and subject to punishment if you don't?

There are three models out there that I know of in non-subscription music software:

1. Upgrades when you join with no penalty (e.g. Sonar)

2. Upgrades price-weighted to give reductions to the most recent purchasers (e.g. Cubase)

3. Upgrades the same price for all (e.g. NI and iZotope).

Avid would add public floggings to their re-instatement charges if they could. The SHAME. REPENT!

Yes you are correct but the price i quoted was for reinstatment of non HD :-)
VS $999 for HD.
